Magic Man done:
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/183190020/Rockman%20%26%20Forte%20%28J%29%20FractalFusion.smv
Unfortunately, I guess that I saved very little time in Magic Man. The one zipping glitch I did did not contribute a lot.
Yes, I took damage intentionally.
Finding weapon energy for Tengu Blade was also hard. One thing I found was that completely splitting Spread Drill throws 13-15 random numbers. That can help matters somewhat.
I can tell you that getting the necessary weapon energy during the fortress stages will be at least 10x harder. No, I do not have Energy Saver.
Looks good. I'll see if I can insert these tricks into the run.
I successfully hex-edited Burner Man level and Tengu Man level improvements, saving about 3 seconds.
The Tengu Man improvement was only 21 frames, but it looks better [/personalopinion].
Teleport stage done. I saved 31 frames in the level, more than on Cold Man's stage.
The runs are now at the same point. I forgot to figure out last time, but my run is now about 100s (1m 40s) faster.

I'm assuming you haven't reached that 1 minute 48 second time saver yet then? Also, with all of the huge amount of zipping going on, I'm surprised it's only 100 seconds so far...
Also, I can hardly wait.
How does these icewall/lightning bolt glitches work and what are their limitations?

I don't know much about this game and I've only played it a few times but took the time to watch your latest smv.
After you had the ice wall and the lightning bolt the movement really sped up, it was all super fast wall glitches. This looks really awesome and entertaining, really looking forward for the full run. :)

Spider-Waffle, I am going to assume that the info is very easily findable in this thread if only you took the effort to look, but for niceness sake I'm going to sum up what I assume is going on.
Ice wall is acting a lot like the magnet beam and rising balloon from Megaman 1 and 2 respectively. To get into the ceilings, Rockman/Forte stands on an ice wall that is being made in mid air, and as the ice wall is formed you are standing on top of it, and get pushed into a ceiling. For going through walls/doors, you form the ice ice wall right behind you, and you get pushed forwards.
Lightning bolt is supposed to freeze your x/y movement, and you remain suspended in air/stuck on the ground as you cast lightning bolts. However, it seems that if you get lodged into a corner and whatnot you will move as you do the lightning bolt. If you are inside a vertical wall and cast L. Bolt, you will zip straight down at a very fast speed. If you cast it repeatedly you can continuously zip down very steep vertical walls many screens in length.
Hope that helped.
But want to know it's limitations, it seems like there must be some or it would have been used more.

Oh, like it's not being used enough in Fractal's WIP or parrot's run?
Ok, in a nutshell, how much energy you have left determines how many times you can do it. The "limitations" are already stated earlier in this topic, when parrot showed L. Bolt can be used to zip he very clearly provided a .smv and said where it could be done, and Fractal showed a .smv for ice wall and said how you can get into different walls/corners.
As I already said, the info you seek is in this thread, already stated. It's not on page 5, so take the time and go looking for it. It's not too many pages back. In the time it took you to post that you could have already found it.
By the way, my WIP which I had posted here long time ago, has 12 frames faster intro stage. Fractalfusion may want to check it out if he's every into re-doing it.

Well I went looking, there's bit and pieces of information scattered across multiple pages. It would be nice if someone could consolidate it all into one post.
What I gathered is that with ice wall you can glitch into an upper corner if there's enough room for ice wall (and maybe a little more for your character too, but this was not mentioned) and for upper-left corners you have to enter the menu.
While in walls you can climb upwards at about jumping speed. The L-bolt can be used to zip up and down, and read some stuff about horizontal too, but sure how this is different that just zipping right normally, but maybe it can also zip you left?
Is that all right? Does anyone know about this horizontal L-bolt zipping?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
There's a slight difference between horizontal L. Bolt and zipping horizontally. L. Bolt is either 1 frame faster per 3 frames (when Forte is about to fall out of the ceiling), or 1 frame faster per 7 frames (when not). However, it is possible that the L. Bolt can push Forte into the ceiling where he cannot escape. Forte only goes horizontally with L. Bolt near (but not in) the top of the ceiling.
Also, Rockman is slightly different, since he enters corners easier and does not require the menu to enter an upper-left corner.
Don't forget that there is also a scroll limit where Forte cannot go past the side of the screen. The scroll limit is 8 pixels/frame, whereas Forte can zip horizontally faster than that. Forte can go above the screen or below the screen (but if he goes below, he dies).
Cannot go past the side of the screen, What do you mean? How does 8 pixels/frame enter into that?
Also, can L-bolt let you zip left?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
If Forte is zipping horizontally and he reaches the side of the screen while it is trying to scroll away from him, he cannot go faster than 8 pixels/frame.
If L. Bolt can zip you right, then it can zip you left.
So I was watching the wip and I'm wondering why some of these tricks weren't used:
Burner man:
1. After the first icewall trick, you climb a ladder then there's a thin floor above you and a wall to the right, can you not glitch in this upper-right corner?
2. You glitch into the floor for the first of the two doors that lead to burner man, but then you jump out of the floor as opposed to zipping through the door as was done in pirate man's level.
Astro man:
1. At the first door, same thing as burner man #2.
2. At the part where the floor moves you up into spikes, there's an upper-left corner. I think I've seen zipping through spikes before, but I don't know it's limitations. Also the floor moves up right next to the left wall, was thinking you might be able to glitch in like an item-1 in RM2.
3. At the part where you zip through a 1 screen room and continue zipping after it, there's an upper-left corner after the room with a long ceiling you eventual glitch into anyway. There's also an upper-right corner in the 1 screen room which would be even better if that worked.
Dynamo man:
1. After the conveyor belts there's an electric station in an upper-right corner, if you could glitch in here this could allow zipping all the way to the sub-boss room.
2. At the next conveyor belt part, could you use those blue blocks as a wall and glitch past them?

Sorry for not replying sooner. I was self-banned for a week.
I halted progress ever since parrot14green submitted the 100% run. Working on the run at the same time was not a good idea. Also, I was busy (and I still am now). The next level will be a pain.
I will eventually work on it sometime. But not for the next few days at least.
Completed Fortress stage 2. Now 4 minutes and 4 seconds faster than the published run.
Some questions that I forgot to answer a while ago:
There's not enough room to put an Ice Wall there.
For most gates, it is only possible to enter the next room by touching the lower part of the gate. On the other side, the wall is too thin to keep me in.
I need Shock Guard for that, and I would rather use it for the zip in Ground Man's stage. Or I could use invincibility from damage, but I decided not to. I would also need to cancel Ice Wall using the menu.
It's faster going into an upper-right corner. As for the 1-screen room, I have no control there. As for the screen before it, I must touch the gate to advance.
I tried, but I couldn't. There doesn't seem to be enough room.
I also tried the blocks at the beginning of the level. Unlike level structure, they push Forte out, so it doesn't work.
The rooms for the boss refights can only be exited by triggering the shutter door, which can only be activated by beating the boss.
Note that "self-ban" = "take a break".
I was busy. Also, something happened on this forum that made me realize at the time that I was taking things way too seriously, so I left.
