Server seems to be down VIPer7. Atleast I can't download the SMV file. :(

hmm, maybe you tried to download an old file? I rename the videos with each level that is added and the video has just been renamed again, as I added Star Road 3 b. 14 frames faster than Alexis Neuhaus (and also faster than the other available smw videos) you can download the new video here (I tried it out, the link works!) ---edit Star Road 4 b has been added. 40 frames faster than Volkov, 41 frames faster than Alexis Neuhaus (also 1 second faster on the ingame clock). I guess they didn't know about the fastest flying method... Maybe I should also do an 11-level run once I'm finished with this, I think Alexis' time can still be improved by 2-3 seconds :) If you wonder why I don't grab the key earlier: It takes some time until the key is "grabable", so I have to wait a bit. Now on to Star Road 5 - happy koopa bumping :)

You hit the wall at 5170 somewhere and lost speed and didn't move forward for a few frames. I'm almost sure this is avoidable, because you can swim upwards above the fish and bullets just before. The pipe entering where you have to turn left for a while also looks strange, I'd look into it more closely. Shouldn't you be able to continue going right while the bullet goes under you, as long as you have more height? Like coming more from the top-left, or something. When you put the key in the hole, is it possible to land earlier? Does the key really have to be that far into the hole? I seem to remember differently, but I could be mistaken, and I don't have any good way of checking it right now. ---- Edit: It seems I was mistaken about the key, judging from the next star road level. Not much to comment on, the only thing I can possibly think of is having max forward speed when you pick up the key, and I guess you already thought of that. I definitely think you should do a new short version when you can. Since you'll have all the levels ready it should be easy to make one for you.

Yeah I didn't notice that fault in Soda Lake when I played at slow-motion, thanx for noticing :S I'll fix that, although I doubt that it will improve the overall time, because of the forced slow-down before the pipe (it's not possible to enter the pipe swimming, Mario has to walk for 1 frame, and then he'll touch the bullet...) In Star Road 3 I tried landing earlier, but then I still put the key into the hole in the exact same frame In Star Road 4 I also tried out several things, and this was the fastest way of putting the key into the hole Star Road 5 has been added. Unfortunately the koopas were in quite bad positions; sometimes I couldn't bump on one because then I'd get hurt by another one; sometimes I bumped on one and then flew over the next 3 or 4... So I just bumped as many as possible, and tried to miss the easy ones and hit the more difficult ones instead. The new video is ready for download here

In Star World 4, are you sure you couldn't grab a shell at some point and throw it into the [?] box, to get the key faster? Since you've activated the red and green switch boxes, it looks like it would be possible. Might save a few frames... Nice job so far, pleae keep it up.

I corrected the fault in Soda Lake, that saved 6 frames. I could also improve the passage before the pipe (maybe because the bullet acted differently), so in the end I finished the level 13 frames faster, also 1 timeunit :) Unfortunately I lost a few frames because the fade-out sequences and also the star-beam took longer, so in the end it was a 5 frames improvement :P @Blublu: No there's no way to kill a turtle AND grab the shell without interrupting the flying sequences, and stopping would take too much time Now I gotta test out how the "smashola" glitch works :) you can download the updated movie here

I haven't seen the newest updates but do you know about the "avoid flying high after bumping a koopa while flying" thing? If not it may help you bounce some more koopas.

what exactly do you mean? how to perform this?

When I think about it it's more of a delay of the increase of altitude. What you do is pressing forward a while before you hit the koopa, the result is that you won't get the upward boost untill a bit later. I hope you get my point and I hope it can prove usefull. If you still don't get what I mean I can make a smw by tomorow (it's bedtime for me now ;) )

I think pressing forward during the flight always slows down. but I'll verify that again

Lookin' gooderrific. :) I think you probably could've gotten that dragon coin you missed in Soda Lake though, while pulling off a cool maneuver as well...maybe if you'd have dropped into that area from high enough, you'd be falling fast enough to avoid bumping into the overhang, and then you could get out of there by swimming under the right wall :) Just a small thing, though...*shrug*

I didn't know that I could swim below that wall... So, I redid Soda Lake, and now collected all 5 dragon coins = 1UP :) Somehow the movie desynched in Star Road 5 (although I entered it in the exact same frame, the only difference was 1 more life...), so I did that level again, also testing out the trick that Mazzic suggested. I could perform it, but even pressing forward for only 1 single frame caused a slowdown of 2-3 frames... So I didn't do it, time comes first :P I somehow gained 2 frames in the fade-out sequence, woohoo :) You can download the new video here

In Star World 4, it seemed like you stopped for quite an unnecessarily long time when getting the key. Was the long delay really necessary? Otherwise everything looked good.

If you wonder why I don't grab the key earlier: It takes some time until the key is "grabable", so I have to wait a bit.

Can you use the waiting time for something better? It looks like an error as it's now.

does this make you more happy Bisqwit? :) The screen freezes 1 frame later, but therefore the fade-out sequence is 2 frames faster (so overall a 1 frame improvement, which I had to drop on the world map to prevent Star World 5 from desynching :P)

Nice work! I've been away for about 5 days now and I am very impressed with the progress. By the way, I'm stuck in the Demo World hack! Viper, since you've beaten it, do you think you remember how to do this part? I'm on the Big Boo Tower, level 40ish, and I can't seem to find any help by searching online. I'm at a point where there's two chains leading to the next level and the level I'm on has a bunch of thwomps everywhere. If I take the left chain, I can maneuver my way up a couple floors but then reach dead ends no matter which way I go. The right chain I can't grab a hold of because 1) There's a Thwomp right under it and 2) I can't even reach it, since it's at the rightmost corner of the screen and there's no place to run to try to fly up to it. The only thing I can think of is to jump on the black plants on the floor, making me small, get a running start and jump into my backup feather as it's drifting down so I start flying right then, up to the chain above the thwomp. However, every time I've tried that, I've failed because I inevitably hit either the thwomp or the candle that's in my way before I make it to the chain, and I fall to the ground. Is there an easier way?

Hehe I got stuck at the exact same point; my problem was that the Thwomp had somehow disappeared! (this happens from time to time, that some enemies disappear...) So I killed myself and wanted to go to a secret house and get a trampoline, only to find out that I couldn't get away from Big Boo's tower... :P When I tried it again, there was another Thwomp on the right side, and yeah Bladegash is right, you can spin-jump on him and get to the right chain. Have fun, only 60 floors left :P

Thanks for the help ... I always forget about spin-jump. Wow, that Yoshi-Fire powerup in Big Boo's Secret is cool! It's too bad there aren't any levels left to use it on.

Star Road 1 b has been added. 22 frames faster than Volkov and 28 frames faster than Alexis Neuhaus. Might have been a little bit faster if I took the mushroom, but I still need the fireflower later... I get through both yellow passages in one go. The key could have been put into the hole 5 frames earlier, but then the fade out sequence would have been 2 frames longer in the end... You can download the new movie here

Star Road 2 b complete. 8 frames faster than Volkov and 9 frames faster than Alexis (funny that Volkov is faster than Alexis in so many levels... :P). I tried to hit and eat as many fish as possible; the problem is that when I grab an item (= the baby yoshi) Mario can swim forward faster, but not swim up and down so fast, so if there are 2 fish swimming above each other, I can only hit one of them. The new video can be downloaded here
