You may put a link to the patch for the ROM, but you cannot provide links to the ROMs themselves. If Nintendo or some other big brother found that we allowed free download links of copyrighted games to be on our site (which we do not allow, as stated on the home page), they may try to shut us down since that is illegal. Distributing patches is much safer than distributing patched ROMs since the latter has legal issues in the United States and Europe, even if China may be excluded.
<ccfreak2k> There is no 'ctrl' button on DeHackEd's computer. DeHackEd is always in control.
So here's one last idea from me.
I didn't test it much, I don't know so much about the mechanisms in the game anyway... It's just a last idea that's maybe worth testing.
I've been trying that for a while now, I cannot seem to do it.
My idea was to be big mario, jump onto one of the koopas to bounce upward while I hit the other shell forward. Right after I do this I would bounce off the shell I hit forward and then mustache jump up to the platform using the koopa on the right platform.

Can someone post a WIP to help me understand how to pull off the floating enemy trick on 4-3? I haven't figured it out yet.
To my understanding, we are now to the point where the B button need only be pressed once, for one single frame, on 4-3, and the rest to complete the entire game (32 levels)?
Has anyone put together the one B press walkthrough yet? I'd love to see it all, even if it's not perfect yet.
Sorry. Looking back now I realize that the floating koopas probably hasn't been achieved on 4-3 already, or someone else would probably have accomplished the jump.
Can someone direct me to an FCEU movie of it being done anywhere, with the flying koopas perhaps?
I would still like to see the "minimalist" video of only pressing B once, if someone is working on it.
What about getting the highest jump, perhaps off the koopa, and wall jumping off the top mushroom to get on it?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
I thought it's impossible to walljump off a mushroom because it triggers by standing on a tile that's part of the wall and mushrooms are only one tile high?
I think it has been used in a few AIR-like glitch/puzzle hacks.
Either way, in a real run, going left through a wall would never be useful.
[Je pense que ca a ete utilise dans quelques hacks, style "AIR", qui sont bases sur des puzzles et des bugs. De toute facon, dans un vrai TAS, aller a gauche a travers un mur ne serait jamais utile.]
That sounds like a setup/timing nightmare, but possible. When you say you couldn't do it, do you mean the timing was off, or you still can't get enough distance to mustache jump?
Well, when trying it with an emulator for about an hour, I couldn't manage to do what I planed. I came somewhat close, but yes, I could not seem to get enough distance.
Another method I thought of was to do the small-fiery mario glitch and have that ability while in 4-3. Then just jump right over to the platform to the right, get hit while in the air in order to grow, and then mustache jump to victory. If there was a way to get hit mid-jump, then this method should be possible.

There's two red koopas on that mushroom right? what you left one shell on the left side then knocked the other shell into it, would it bounce back and then be able to hit you?

Unfortunately that's not how it would work. The shell would just destroy the other shell rather than bouncing back. I can't think of any way to get hit while jumping, I do want to know something though.
I think the fiery-small mario glitch would work if you pressed B for one frame after jumping over the large gap while right next to a the koopa on the right. (Mario appears to become larger when you press B with firepower) Although even with this, you may not have enough distance to clear the gap.
I'm trying to recall any other weird glitches that could be useful for this situation.

What can you do with that screen shift trick? Could you maybe shift it all the way to the right so mario is on the left edge and jump and land that mushroom on the right that's 1 block lower by clipping across the screen?

Although I am not very interested in speedwalks, this 4-3 brain-teaser however attractes me.
Is there any way to warp from the left side of screen to the right side without using ivy? (A silly question?)
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days
<adelikat> no doubt
<adelikat> klmz, they still do

Yeah, this is an interesting challange which is why I'm trying to figure it out. I really like the concept of not pressing B, it's silly.
I don't think it's possible to warp like that without the use of a vine, otherwise I think we'd have much faster smb runs ;) If we could figure out a way to do that, it would be remarkable.
EDIT: 1 frame B press failed attempt. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/959519784/mario.fcm
I thought that might work, but I didn't test to see if mario's head could collide with a koopa when in that position. I think if I could get hit while in the air, that would probably work.

By jumping backwards into any object Mario can gain some distance without screen scrolling. I mixed this with the turning around faster trick (pressing left/right one frame) for maximum distance.
My plan was to use the first small pit right in the beginning for the koopa in air trick. But it's another failed attempt...

This was my most recent idea, and then I tried doing it by hitting the shell from the top of the screen. You know how it loops up and down?

Sorry, but I didn't quite understand your sentence. ^^'
Can you rephrase it please?
Sorry, I was in a hurry.
Well basically I was trying to do the "make the koopa walk on thin air glitch" by jumping to the top of the screen as the koopa falls to its death at the bottom of the screen. So basically, when the koopa falls into that one block gap, get to the very top of the screen right above that spot and stomp it from the top of the screen to make that glitch work.
EDIT: sorry, I couldn't do what I was trying to do, I had to keep editing this post. :/
