So basically, you guys are challenging the game without the suit that protects the energy from being drained in the heat? Do you guys still need the speed booster and the ice beam?

We are collecting 100%. However the optimal (thought to be optimal at least) route to do so involves going to norfair before kraid and skipping wavebeam until after ridley.

That doesn't even make sense to me. Fastest 100% requires owning yourself in Norfair without a proper suit? Can't even begin to imagine that.

Oh man I can't remember when I was this excited about a coming run last time, what's the progress now guys? I'm veeery much looking forward to this one, as I'm pretty sure the power rangers' run will take eternity with all the timesavers they're coming up with. :)

2nd kraid room, depending on how that room turn out though we might have to rework from norfair shaft for further improvements.

Are the power rangers still working on the RBO run? Or was it the any% run?

I think they're still on the RBO. I'm not sure though, it's been a while since I heard their last location.

Norfair entirely without the Varia? O_O Man, I remember that being the bane of my existence when I did it during a max-completion NBMB run. I can't wait to see what you guys can make of it.

No, obviously not entirely. Only Speed Booster and the Crocomire area (most of which isn't "hot"). The rest is postponed until Ridley.

By the way, we can give a pretty accurate estimate on how much time the varialess norfair route saved. 12-14 ingame seconds will be the net gain, with an absurd real time gain on top of that. Seems I wasn't crazy after all when I thought of doing norfair varialess ;)
This is a realistic estimation if you skip the Wave Beam and therefore a large amount of energy refilling there. And yeah, a very clever route choice for this run after all, now there are no doubts about it anymore. :-) What I wonder, did you got the Missile Pack in the bottom right corner of the green bubble room, or would the additional damage boost force another refill before Crocomire, and therefore likely slow the run more down than just getting it after Ridley? As for the power rangers, they probably search for new Taco-optimizations before starting their run, which under some circumstances could make the same happen for them as it did with moozooh: not finishing or at least progressing in any runs for years in the end. To not let that happen again, I would recommend them to simply start the run, and just find the optimizations right along with the progress of it, like I did with my RBO and any% all the time. Their RBO run is certainly one I look with much interest forward to see, especially due to the new route change and therefore the even harder conditions to pass in LN than in my run.

We got that pack on the first time through. By my calculations it is ~5-10 frames slower but we needed the extra missiles and we get a big enrgyball on the way down and only lose 10 energy there, so we gain 10 energy which turned out to be very very important.

Is it mandatory that you need to have at least 3 active energy tanks before preparing for Mother Brain's hyper wave? In the latest run I saw, Samus' energy was [3] 01. I guess Mother Brain was totally strong enough to drain the three active tanks and make Samus helpless.

well, the beam drains 300 energy (if you got both suits, that is), requiring 301 energy to survive. Since having only 2 tanks will give you 299 energy, you need 3 tanks. You can substitute an energy tank for a reserve tank, but that won't lower your item count and reserve tanks are generally more hidden and slower to pick up (not to mention the refill-delays). So if you're going for pure speed, 3 energy tanks and both suits, it is. btw, has anyone ever tested what happens if you got more reserve tanks than energy tanks? That sounds like a situation a programmer might overlook, possibly giving interesting results.

Tested it now, the only thing that happens is that you regain full health (of course) and then the R-tank automatically depletes.

I assume the pause screen glitch doesn't affect hyperbeam damage?

Pausing doesn't affect damage at all, all it does is keeping you alive after hitting 0. And you can't pause after being hit by the hyper beam.

Click. It's possible to skip the bomb jump in this room without the high jump.

amazing... you have no idea how much I tried to pull that off in my run. A few more improvements like this, and I am sure 23 will be obtainable with the real-time route.

Congratulations, Taco! I knew it can only be you who will find this on his own, good job man. :-) The funny thing is, I uploaded a demonstration video of this trick (the fully optimized version that I used in my any% as well) only 3 days ago, so everybody who is interested, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LLwcB5-WcE This trick saves pretty exactly 1 sec compared to the currently known bomb jump strategy. A pretty serious time saver right there.

He did, as well as making it invisible. A pretty clever strategy for keeping things secret, then waving them in front of everyone after they've been "spoiled".

Although I still disagree with his attitude in regards to sharing/hoarding of trick information, this does allow him to regain some credibility with regards to being able to claim he did things first.
