I really love Uniracers/Unirally, but I didn't think it would be that interesting to watch a TAS of, so I didn't watch the dragster video, thinking it would just be constant twists. I decided to watch it today, and I laughed so much at how insane it looked. There was a high WTF? factor to it. It was freakin awesome! If you can make THAT level look interesting, I'd love to see more of this.
Though I can see how a game with this much precision and variety would be hard to make. I think that if this were ever finished, it would definitely win some sort of award at the end of year awards. (If that actually is a yearly tradition)
Good Luck on this run. It'll be awesome if it gets finished. *Goes to watch Dragster again*
Was it not your 24.15 first lap I improved to 24.02 with the 5 improvements I mentioned? "This time, it's a third of an update. It's about Zoom Zoo (the second track). I've now completed 1 lap, and the time I got was 24.15 seconds."
Anyway you've got 23.97 now, how much does the the faster the computer player help?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
It doesn't. At least, not in Zoom Zoo. Maybe it had somethin to do with Dragster, but I highly doubt it, since I only beat Nitsuja's time by 0.01 second (and he did it against Bronzen, while I did it against Goldwyn).
I thought that him (it?) being close to my Uni would make me go a little faster, but apparently it doesn't. In Zoom Zoo, I'm too far away for it to have an effect.
So can you post the WIP so far? What'd you differently on zoom zoo?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
Hmm, didn't use those better half loop tricks I described earlier in the thread, I'm pretty sure I could cut over .1 off again with them. If you'd post the WIP I could mod it to include the better tricks and then you could see exactly what I'm talking about.
And I've got a couple ideas to improve dragster as well.
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
You have a really bad attitude; I'm trying to help you and all you can think to do is say this. Fine, if you want it like that, I'll just make my own run parallel to yours.

YOU have a really bad attitude. He just politely asked you to PM him your .smv so he can take your supposed improvements and see if he can incorporate them. In response to such a polite request, you're basically threatening to get into an unhealthy competition.
I wish you good luck on that.
About the attitude, I think your attitude is worse than mine here. I'm kinda tired of hearing you say that you're better than me and you can improve my work and you're so good and I'm not, and blah blah blah. I never liked your attitude from the start of this thread, and I don't think I ever will. There, I said it.
Despite all that, I'm still trying to be as civilized as possible. I asked you to give me your e-mail address so that I could send you my WIP .smv, which you can then try to improve on. What's wrong with that? I don't see no "bad attitude" in that. But since you brought on the topic, I decided to "let the world know" how much I don't like you. Still, if you want the WIP, PM me your address and I'll send it over.
I'm not the kind of person that tends to be openly rude to someone, unless that someone was rude to me in the first place. So there, I know how you feel, and you know how I feel. How about we just keep that to ourselves and still try to stay civilized?
The reason I asked you to PM me (instead of me posting the WIP here) is because I tend to prefer not giving away this WIP publicly. Why? Don't know. I guess this TAS has a certain sentimental value to me, and I'd hate for someone to take over my work or something. Call me paranoid if you want, but that WIP smv is going to be given away only by personal request via PM.
Look, I've never tired to say I'm better than you or that I'm so good. I've only posted about improvements, how else would you like me to point out that I have improvements, comical flop came in here and said I'd find it harder to improve your runs, but I went back and looked and found it was your run originally that I improved. When I pointed that out I never said I was good or you were bad. I've only wanted to help with this run, I apologize if you've taken it the wrong way. I never tried to offend you like you have obviously tried to do to me. My attitude has been foremost to help improve this run, not concerned with how "good" people are.
When I find I out your new run is just like the old run I improved at the halfloops I came in here to tell you that since I figured you'd want to know about improvements. Then you misquote me in a form of libel and say we could work out some contact details, I didn't know whether to take you seriously or not.
If you want my help please apologize, I apologize for anything I may have said which you didn't like.

I don't know where your from, but where I'm from libeling someone is not polite, nor displays a good attitude.

Hey what's with the fighting here? It's awesome that's there are two people making runs! Competition always creates better results when it comes to TASing. If Spider-waffle can beat Halamantariel's times, that will just encourage Halamantariel to try harder. I say if you work together, it will create better results. There have been games where two people make separate TASes, and one of the runs can be used as a reference run. My Kirby's Dream Land 3 run (R.I.P) sucked until I saw Comicalflop's run through the first 4 levels. I used it as a reference, and was able to compare my own strategies to his strategies to find the faster method. His run ended at level 4 though, so I didn't have too much to compare with, but I had quite a better time by the end of level 4. Since my run has been abandoned now, other players can use it as a reference.
One thing I've seen on the forums before that is annoying is players keeping their tricks for faster times a secret. If it's something that can be used throughout the whole run, that is even more crucial to tell since you can discuss what places you can use it, and which places you can't. If you keep it secret, you may miss certain places the trick could be used. This may not really apply to Uniracers, but I thought I should say it. If you are worried about someone "stealing" your run, you can list both players as the author since you helped each other out a lot.
Hope to see a run from either of you sometime.
Alright. Here's the WIP .smv: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1674584940/Uniracers%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.smv
You're free to take a crack at it and see if you find any improvements, but please keep in mind that short term improvements don't always mean long term improvements. For example, an improvement on a half loop might not always mean an improvement on the lap time. So if you do find improvements, please take the time to check if the lap time will improve because of it or not.
Also, apology accepted, I apologize too, no harsh feelings, all is good, everyone is happy. :)
Let me know if you find anything.

Apology accepted, I'll work at this after dinner. I'm hoping we could make a database of useful information for this game. Like a boost chart for tricks including head bounce, points chart, number of frames to hold each button and wait for each trick (jump, X, R/L), ideal order to do tricks in.
Some techniques I used were delaying boosts by not holding forward direction, and slowing down after a big boost to get an extra jump/bigger jump in after.
I think the TtFT will be one of the most common tricks, should try to find a way to use whenever possible on the short jumps, often this means delaying boosts and slowing down to help the future boostage opportunities.
I have a theory about telling weather or not a section is strictly faster; it is if the boost has worn off and you are traveling the same speed and one method puts you further ahead after this, it is strictly faster. There might be some rare exception to this, like sub-frame positioning being off causing a missed opportunity to gain time. "Further ahead" can be vague but it most cases it will be traveling up a hill which is pretty straight forward.
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
Sorry to say this, but all that is information is already known. Also, there is no strict amount of frames to press certain buttons, mainly because these numbers vary according to the angle the bike is at.
Also, boost table including headbounce: http://www.obellemare.com/speedruns/Uniracers%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D/Uniracers.html
As for the order in which to do stunts, the boost table speaks for itself. It is better to do a flip first, and then it is better to fit in one of each stunt before making a stunt you've already made. For example, F2R is slower than FRZ. It's all mathematics, really.
The only thing that has been kept somewhat secret (I think) is this list of useful memory addresses to watch while TASing:
7E04B7,2s,Speed
7E11CD,2u,Booster Meter
7E0411,2u,X Pos
7E0415,2u,Y Pos
7E1509,1u,Screen X Pos
7E11FD,1u,# of Flips
7E11F9,1u,# of Rolls
7E0F61,1u,# of Twists
7E042B,1u,# of Z-Flips
7E042F,1u,# of Tabletops
Also, the trick you thought of to define whether a section is faster than before, I used that technique to improve Zoom Zoo.
Please don't view this post as an offensive message or anything. It is meant to be purely informative, and not offensive in any way. I'm completely neutral in this message.
I think this is why halamantariel thinks you're being rude to him. You are insulting his intelligence by assuming he hasn't already worked out these kinds of things. And I know for certain that he has already worked out the mechanics of the game. Also, apparently your mother is fat. But that's hearsay. (Don't shoot the messenger)
Edit: so halamantariel posted 1 second before me. Lame sauce. Well, like I had said, he has all that stuff worked out.

Quick question, purely out of curiosity:
What decides what effects Hunter will use, and how easy/hard are they to manipulate? I can't recall any that slows the bike down right now, so I'm assuming you'll try to manipulate it too look as cool as possible?
Awesome WIP, by the way. If the rest of the run will be of the same quality, this run will be pure greatness.
I never said someone didn't know that stuff, in fact I thought I was implying that they did by hoping that all the information be keep somewhere for easy reference.
What I meant by best order to do tricks in was for least frames used. For example I recall it being better to do Tt before T, In fact I think Tt was almost always the first trick you should try to do.
Then for amount you need to hold and when to hold:
I think to do table tops you had hold X for 2 frames, then wait like 8, then 2 frames X, and the soonest you could start to press X was something like 3 frames after you jumped.
To do a Z you had to hold X for more than 2 frames, maybe like 6 I can't remember.
Then for R or F there must a minimum amount of frames required in the ideal situation.
Then to do stuff like TtR afap, it's some specific combination.
Also you could have the number of frames you want to hold B for to get the minimum jump height on flat ground for each trick.
Furthermore we could have a table which shows the minimum number of frames required to be the air to do all the tricks you would ever conceivably want to do. For example (making these up) T - 7, Tt - 8, R - 13, RT- 13, F - 17, FT - 17, TtR - 14, TtFT - 20, ect...
So Whatever parts of this is known maybe we could start adding it to the tricks page on this site, and prolly some isn't exactly known right now.
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
See, I never tried to get all this information. Why? Because it's not necessary to know that to TAS the game. Trial and error, and these memory addresses I gave you are more than enough to get a perfect jump every time. I never bothered getting this data, because I don't need it.
If you want it though, nothing's stopping you from getting it yourself. I'm certainly not going to do all your work when that particular work is useless to me.

Oh, what is this? Uniracers thread being revived? Could it be???
The Uniracers TAS is back on track. Dessyreqt came along and revived this TAS! He came to me because he wanted to TAS the game, and instead I suggested that we team up to complete it. So here we are, the Uniracers TAS is getting worked on again, this time by a team of 2: Dessyreqt and myself.
The main reason of this post though is to ask you guys for help. We know of a bug that allows the Uni to glitch through the corner of a track, but we can't figure out how to do it. It happened to Dessyreqt once while he was playing on the console, and it happened to someone else on Gamefaqs too. The track this glitch happened on is Jumpover.
We ask for your help in trying to replicate that glitch. Here is a page showing what we've managed to do so far, as well as some savestates (one in mid-jump, one before the jump). Link: http://dscarroll.com/uniracerstas/FallThrough.ashx
If you find anything, please post an smv here, or just a very precise description of how to do it.
Thanks!
EDIT: I re-uploaded the Dragster video. It's in way better quality than the previous one. Also, the new TAS selects the White Uni, named Dave. We chose not to rename the Uni this time. LINK
Double post, but it's worth it. Maybe.
While trying stuff out, Dessyreqt found that in Stunt tracks (where you have to do stunts to earn points, but each time you do a particular stunt, the score it gives you is reduced by half), one particular stunt does NOT reduce in score everytime you do it. That stunt is the Tabletop.
Having found this, we decided to make a quick demonstration video. Enjoy!

P.S.: This video breaks just about every record we've found on the internet, except 2, one of which seems a little bogus to us.
