So... Do I have to redownload the ROM? Every fucking time I work on this run?

Or, Download 2 copies?

Download one (1) copy, then label it "clean copy", then copy it and use.

You know I seriously believe theres not an ounce of common sense to be found between you two sometimes. Perhaps you're trying too hard to find an answer to a rediculously easy-to-fix problem. Thanks moozooh for providing the much-needed common sense.

I'd love for anyone who casually mentions that a quantum computer is some magic automatic TASing device to explain how.
The Bit and the Pendulum: From Quantum Computing to M-Theory - The New Physics of Information wrote:
Now if you're playing Chessmaster 4000 on a Pentium-based PC, you can see only one arrangement of pieces at a time. But with the quantum Pentiums of the future, you might see a board where a fuzzy bishop occupied several different squares at once as youre quantum processor preserved all the possibilities for all the moves up to that point in the game. If the many-worlds view of quantum reality is correct, Deutsch argued in 1985, then a properly designed quantum computer could compute in all those universes at once. In principle, such a quantum computer could perform millions upon millions of computations white your Tandy 1000 (a hot computer in those days) could work on only one. Deutsch's proposal amounted to a strange new kind of parallel processing. The idea of multiple processors running simultaneously (in parallel) was not new. Parallel processing has long been a big a deal among computer designers. Obviously, 1,000 chips running in tandem could solve problems faster than one chip making one calculation after another. Basically, 1000 ships could get your answer roughly 1000 times faster (depending of course on how well the machine was designed and programmed). But quantum parallelism was vastly more impressive. Consider the power of 1000 simple processors. Say each can represent one bit of information (in other words, be on or off, representing one or zero). There are then 2 to the 1,000th power possible combinations of on-off sequences. (This is a big number, roughly 1 followed by a 301 zeros. If you tried to count up to it- at the rate of a trillion numbers per second - it would take more than 10 billion times the age of the universe. Don't even try.)
It goes on like this, but I think you get the point.

Sure, if you had a strong quantum computer you could feed a combination of input states into an emulator, and in one of these "universes" the game would be completed successfully in a minimal number of frames. Then it's time for you, the speedrunner, to read out the number of frames it took and the input sequence that worked... whoops! With high probability, you've ended up reading the results from the *wrong universe*, and your results are garbage. Even taking a less naive approach, you can't solve the "TAS problem" instantly. If you didn't understand Bisqwit's post alluding to a reduction of N inputs to O(sqrt(N)) inputs to search, try reading (for instance) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover's_algorithm to get an idea of the limits of quantum parallelism.

I have had a horrendous time finding a good SMB2 ROM, having no clue where I downloaded the first one. But when I find it, I could have a run somewhat soon as I plan to work very hard. Expect a WIP within a week if the ROM I just downloaded is good.

of course.. smb1+smb2+smb3+mm+mm2+lolo+excite bike+final fantasy+monopoly would be fine.

A good SMB2 rom does not exist. A good SMB2 disk image, however, does.

Hey, could I do one where SMB3 plays in 2-player mode, and just suicides with Mario then runs through the game with Luigi? With SMB3 using player-2 input, the run would be way faster, but I'm not sure if it would be acceptable. EDIT: I've decided it would be slower, anyway. Mario would have to suicide 5 times.

That's ruining the spirit of a quad-game tas. So you STILL haven't started this run? Each day you wait, the quad-paradigm loses more and more luster.

I've decided the best way to do it would be in 1 long stretch of TASing. I started yesterday.

I'm having problems with the SMB+SMB2j demo of 1-1 on the first or second page of this topic. How do I run two games and replay videos at the same time? It's not a ROM problem, it's replaying the videos because I have to open 2 emulators and hit replay on both of them, which causes one game to be a few seconds ahead of the other...

RE: Zowayix First, get FCEU 16. Then, open each game, and before playing the movie, pause the emulators (default key is Pause). Load the movie in both. Then, go into one of the emulators, and in the Config menu check the Enable Background Input option. Then go to the other one, and press the pause key again, which should unpause both. (The movies tend to desync from each other over time though still)

Where is the "Enable Background Input" button-thing under Config?
See Youtube page (GIRfanaticTAS) for all runs and stuff.

My computer hard drive crashed - I lost my progress so far - about 5000 frames. Not that much, I've been unproductive lately, but I'm pissed and discouraged.
