So this is a game a friend of a friend made. It's a very challenging platformer and quite a lot of fun. But when I say very challenging - I mean very challenging. It took me the better part of an hour to get through the first 2 rooms. Luckily save points come very often and there are multiple routes, so if something is very-too-hard when first encountered, you can play some other route and try a different very-too-hard room. You can get the game at http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/index.php If you want to 'try before you buy' there's a playthrough of Very Hard mode on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvL3Vxn1g-8 Be warned: this game is very prone to spoilers, and watching this run (though very entertianing) will kill about half the entertainment of playing. So I suggest you only watch a few minutes of it to see if the game's worth your time, if you plan on playing. Oh and it's on Very Hard mode but the only difference between the difficulties is the number and position of save points - the easiest difficulty has about one per screen (and it's still very difficult, just less frustrating). So try it out, post your progress, and use this thread to announce your bid for the position of The Guy! Edit: to avoid spoilers, try using color tags (the two colors are EFEFEF for odd posts and DEE3E7 for even ones) to hide names of bosses, solutions of particular rooms, etc.

Judging by the movie, it seems like a faster, prettier and deadlier version of this game: http://blog53.fc2.com/k/king75/file/owata.html

Yes, that was the inspiration. Kayin played that and wanted to make a game like it but actually good, so he made this. EDIT: My progress, in spoiler text. So far I've been doing both the upper and lower route. I've beat the first boss on each and am stuck in the Makaimura section of the upper path and the Bionic Commando section of the lower path. I know about the even lower path but I haven't gone there yet. Spoiler free summary: I'm just stuck on places where I can't get through spikes.. it's my own fault.

Now I'm wondering who you know that knows Kayin. I've been thinking about making a topic about this game, because I hang out in #finalfight, and was able to hear all about the game as it was being made.

Thanks, this could just be what I need. I'm thinking of re-playing La-Mulana a bit to show some cool parts to my class, but I don't really feel like it because it's such a difficult game. If this game is that hard then maybe after playing it a bit I'll be more inclined to play La-Mulana again without the speed boots, gauntlets, double jump... Ah man, that's probably gonna suck no matter what. Oh well, still, thanks again. I guess I'm a bit of a masochist.

I find both the original and the inspired new game to be ridiculously difficult. The new game looks great, but I can't deal with a game that kills my character that many times AND adds gory insult to that injury. At least the 2-ch version just "pops" like Rockman. It looks cool, and I like the music (what little I heard).

Yeah, don't actually make the character DIE. Just play "Uh Oh Spaghetti-Os" and have him jump off the screen.

Wow, it worked! After a few tries in this game, even the early parts of La-Mulana feel like fun again.

I can't beat Mike Tyson. That guy is just too evil.

If you stay on the left or right side of the room (next to the doors) and double-jump over his punches he's pretty easy. He's only vulnerable when his mouth is open.

There are some pretty funny Let's Play on YouTube about this game... a few people have played it and now regret it . Seriously, go watch the videos by UltraJMan... he starts off pretty sane but at the end it's hilarious. I think he even starts crying at one point :O. Only problem is he knew a bit about the game before starting so he avoided some of the funniest traps (game-over room for one, evil save point, etc) We should put this in the SpeedRun competition forum, see who can get farthest on Impossible =p.

Yeah, getting the timing down is easier said than done. I also hate the fact that there's an unnecessary forty second intro to the boss which can't be skipped.

Thanks, that helped quite a bit.

Press the 'S' key once you're inside the room

I'm presently on the final boss, The Guy. After playing through virtually the entire game, I must admit I'm surprised at how well-balanced and designed much of the game is. It's still an amateur creation, but much better than I expected.

Yeah, the game is pretty cool. I hate that walljump control, thouhg. Same places are a matter of luck.

I didn't realize Boco wanted whoever plays this to post their progress, so I'll interject right now and say that I've beaten it. On medium, anyways. I don't want to try it on anything harder. Might break my keyboard. Fun game, I must say. In spite of some rather glitchy behavior, it was very well made and designed. Heck, I found one glitch with the ending that gave me invincibility on the final boss. Also, a good hint for the final boss: the "evil" save box can be converted into a regular save by shooting it enough times. Not sure if this was well known.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I pretty much gave up after reaching some teleporter room, and after that a weird place with a shyguy shooting missiles at me. All three paths I tried seemed annoyingly painful, and I decided not to bother. I watched an LP of it though, and loved that Dracula bit.

Besides Ninja Gaiden, this is one of the games that kept pissing me off.
