Does anybody here do so? Like playing an instrument? I only know about JXQ and of course there's the Bisqwit's music page. I believe speedrunning and making music are pretty similar. Both topics are somewhat related to speed, striving for perfection and artistic freedom. Playing an instrument would be more similar to running on a console, while using music making programs or synthesizers would be closer to TASing imo. I personally spent a lot of time with FL back in the days. Then I started speed running Sonic Advance 2, which had been more fun. The next step was TASing, but I've never finished a single run. And now, I've found playing the guitar to be what I enjoy most out of these (imo) very similar leisure activities. How about you?

I used to make IDM, and only one out of the many "records" I produced could be called half-decent. nowadays I just mess around with samples and make weird loops when I'm bored.

I play the guitar a little, and I made a post some time ago where I gave links to me playing the guitar and the ocarina. I have also made original sequencer music in the past. Here's a sample: http://kapsi.fi/~warp/Sunshine_remake.mp3

Music is my one true passion. I'm not an accomplished musician or anything, but I taught myself how to play piano and guitar (in other words, I probably perform nothing like one is intended to) and enjoy smacking drums around. I've worked on a fair number of game music remixes for the likes of Overclocked and VGMix, but being the perfectionist bitch I am, I never actually submitted anything. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd have a recording studio in my basement. Amusingly enough, as much as I love music, I refuse to seek a career in any related field, mainly because I fear that I'd wind up hating it. I was an animation major for two years, and I have not drawn a damned thing since I left the school. Nothing kills my passions like being forced into them.

I play the piano, pretty casual but it's one of the few things I truly enjoy doing. I wish I was focusing a bit more on it actually, I'd love to improve more than I currently am.

Damn. I wonder if there is a scientific term for that, because it's something I've been quite fruitlessly fighting with for a huge part of my life. :\

I've also learnt how to play the guitar by myself. I mainly play unplugged with my e-guitar and since I've always liked synth sounds I also own a guitar synthesizer. I usually spend about 3-5 hours a day "practicing".

The thing about being forced to do something you like is that you stop concentrating on doing it to satisfy yourself and get more and more into doing it to satisfy somebody else. It also forces your style into a specific direction, and it's not so much about personal development anymore, but about getting closer to certain standards. Sorry about having forgotten about adelikat and Warp.

Wow, I totally love it. I've always liked dreamy pianoesque songs. Very inspiring. ^^

I play the piano from time to time, mostly Final Fantasy music. Nothing serious. I think I uploaded some of my recordings somewhere on this forum once...

I used to play keys fairly well, but now I'm more of a dilettante. I could develop some serious talent if I weren't so busy procrastinating... and, y'know, if I still had a keyboard. Actually, I had the idea earlier today to buy a harmonica and start a group of VG musicians whose gimmick is to play songs on seemingly counterintuitive instruments. Just imagine- Aria de Mezzo Carattere on a fucking harmonica. Seriously.

I'm attending university for a bachelor of music. I play the piano. I compose a lot of stuff on the side and plan on selling it eventually.

I really stink at music, but I still like it, which results in things like this for the Dwelling of Duels competition. Most of you should recognize the song.

I play drums for my school's percussion ensemble and jazz band and I'm in a band with friends. I also played drums in marching band. I like to dabble in bass and keyboard as well. Here's a link to my super awesome band's music page :D www.myspace.com/therest1234

I used to play the Trumpet and Tenor Horn, but I haven't done any of that for years. I'm barely competent on a keyboard. I much prefer listening to and composing music rather than playing it. I have a couple of pages on my website for releases: original stuff and remixes. Notice that hardly any of it is finished. I'm like that. :)

Thanks. That's actually a remake of the original song I made, which is probably even dreamier: http://kapsi.fi/~warp/Sunshine.v1.0.mp3 For another dreamy song of mine: http://kapsi.fi/~warp/Laulu.v1.0.mp3

While I don't consider these to be bad, I must say I liked the remake tons better. It has more of a unique character to it, it puts me in a kind of trancy and relaxing state. Sorry if I sound like I'm exaggerating, I just really like it, lol.

I can't play an instrument, but I've done a lot of midi writing. My most recent accomplishment was writing the original soundtrack for this game, which can be found here if you'd like to give it a listen.

I make sort of experimental electronic music. All my gear is out of commision, though, so I'm just noodling on my guitar in the meantime. Once a week or so, I get together with two dudes to work on our band. I use 'band' in the loosest possible sense. I'll post our video when it's finished, if I remember.

Yay music threads on this forum too. :) I'm a guitarist, been for 5½ years with acoustic and 1 year with electric. I practice a lot every day and hope to make a living one day with progressive metal type of music, that's a dream of mine and I'm willing to work to achieve it. I write some music too but am not too good at it yet, some theory lessons are needed when writing music. I do play piano and drums too, but my main instrument is guitar that I might play 8 hours a day max. Usually it's about 2-5.

Yea, a very cool song indeed. ^^ I wish I could write songs half that great. It has true smash hit potential, lol. Sounds like a song X Japan could have played. And yea, I'm only saying so because it mixes piano with guitars. >_< Would it be too much to ask for the Guitar Pro version of this song?
