This is the sequel to Air, by U1, the author of the original. It's almost exactly the same as its predecessor, but with one major change: no infinite jumps. Obviously, this makes the game much, much harder, and most of the solutions in the original are useless in this one. There's a few level changes to accomodate the primary modification and all invisible coin blocks are marked, but the vast majority of the game is exactly the same.
I propose that this should obsolete the current movie of Air, for the following reasons:
  1. The SMB engine is untouched, therefore it works better as a glitch exhibition.
  2. As a side-effect of 1, it looks more impressive, in my opinion.
  3. Since SMB has little to work with for the creation of a playaround but has so many glitches, I would consider this a suitable substitute.
There's not much to say about the actual run that couldn't be found on the SMB tricks page, but a couple of things warrant explanation:
  • In 3-1, I have to take a hit at the beginning to be able to make the subsequent jump into the coin, which allows me to enter the block far enough to start running to the right and into the pipe. There's an alternate route, but it results in simply running across the entire level, which is really boring, especially since I think this level is the most entertaining one to see in action. I also have to take a hit later so 3-2 will sync.
  • The reason I took a hit in 3-1 rather than in the previous stage, 2-2, was because the beginning of 3-1 requires me to be big in order to take the main route.
  • I could not, for the life of me, manipulate Bowser to lurch out of the pathway any quicker, and thus had to wait for a bit. I did all I could to entertain on that little sliver of floor.
Overall, this run turned out much better than I had originally planned (I didn't even start the run with the intention of submitting it). While I think Genisto's run was brilliant, I think this iteration works much better for a run. Enjoy.
P.S.: mencoder doesn't love me anymore, so no YouTube this time around. Sorry.

cancelling to do a version 3, this time keeping Mario in-bounds at all possible times.

So a run that purposely doesn't run for 100% pure speed is "incompetent"?? I'll be damned!
The run clearly does not play for pure speed. I hope your not trying to be sentimental of the previous movie.

I honestly thought that this was more interesting to watch than the first. I agree with mushroom about the invisible blocks: it leaves the audience less confused about what's going on, which left me more "entertained."
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

It is a nice run, but it wasn't very exciting. What Xkeeper said applies for me as well. But since it wasn't boring (mainly because it is short) I voted meh.

I don't know if this was optimal or not, but I definitely enjoyed watching that, and think that if the original Air should be published, this should too. Yes from me.

The other one didn't, either (in fact, it aimed for something entirely unrelated; to demonstrate the game and many of the bugs in the engine, not beat it quickly) ... but excuse me for liking that one more. I can't see how this one doesn't aim for speed moreso than the prior one. Aside from one or two places, few things seemed slow. I really love how my opinions clash with everybody here. I should try voting yes some time, that'd be fun to see.* * OBVIOUSLY SARCASTIC TONE COLOR CODING *

In that case I'm certainly confused as to what you think entertainment is. My best guess is that you think entertainment is when you feel you are being educated. Something which people familar with the game/engine don't need.

I guess, but then again I've watched several SMB1-glitch hacks (99% of Sistermind (youtube)'s videos), so I'm quite familiar with how most work ... Especially with primarily glitch-abuse TASes, I like it more when they are a creative demonstration of most of the glitches, rather than ones that only abuse two or three to skip the entire game. Things like Super Metroid and Rockman 1 are also entertaining for me, as is the SMW-96 and Tecmo Bowl movies. You could say my taste varies depending on what kind of TAS I figure the game deserves.
