I have already TASed a 84f (1.4s) faster run than the published movie just using one new trick I found a few days ago. Will it be accepted if I submit it?
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Only one way to find out.
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Submit already.

Considering that the last accepted improvement was only 4 frames, I have absolutely no idea what would cause your submission to be rejected. I'm eagerly awaiting your submission.

Since you've found an improvement (assuming what you're saying is true) I'd recommend trying to redo the movie with better stylistic choices, i.e. don't needlessly do a series backwards jumps except where it saves time , instead try to use a series of minimal jumps. Also you might want to do what the current SMB3 movie does by getting fastest time+score.

Imo, you should submit it now. If there are bad styles, nothing prevent you to redo it with people recommendations. Also, bacwkard jumps was liked by MANY people.

I saw klmz's run... The question I have for it is: For the last flag pole, why isn't the flagpole trick used? (is it because it doesn't save any frame?)

The submission text reads: "Note: I didn't use this trick in stage 8-3 otherwise I would have had to decide whether to waste 42 frames in watching three fireworks or not to by wasting 19+ frames somewhere else to miss them...." Is this what you're talking about?

Note: I didn't use this trick in stage 8-3 otherwise I would have had to decide whether to waste 42 frames in watching three fireworks or not to by wasting 19+ frames somewhere else to miss them....
But would waiting the ~19 frames be quicker than watching the flagpole go down? I am not even close to familiar with this game (even as a casual player) so maybe I'm misunderstanding what the wait entails... But that's the explanation he gave, anyway. e: haha, hi randil

Yeah, that's it. Not sure how I missed that note. Thanks for pointing that out! Well, somehow it leds me to believe that can be improved. I am sure someone will get to it eventually.

-In the end of 1-2, couldn't the player use the jump-into-corners trick? -And in 4-2 isn't it faster to go the upper path instead of going through walls? -Why does the jump-into-corners trick not work in 4-2 at the stairs?

-In the end of 1-2, couldn't the player use the jump-into-corners trick? Yes, but it probably does not reach the 21 frame barrier in order to improve the time at all. I assume it is a few frames slower, but it doesn't affect the time. -And in 4-2 isn't it faster to go the upper path instead of going through walls? He goes through the wall in order to scroll Mario forward on the screen enough so that the pipe he goes down will take him to the warp area. So yes, it is a necessity. -Why does the jump-into-corners trick not work in 4-2 at the stairs? Because I believe you can get into the top first block and not get any farther, if you jump, you will jump out of the block. I don't think Mario can fully go through the blocks there, only partially which is how the flagpole glitch works.

How sure are we that you cant pass through a stairway? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvoskJGb0Q4&NR=1 does it about 30 second into the movie, but that rom was modified, so its not cirtain it will work for real.

Well Mario's speed is doubled and he can jump higher in this thing. I'd like to see that duplictaed at normal speed, but Mario cannot jump that high, so I doubt it's possible.

That's a hack and he tends to enter easily in walls.

Considering that Mario's speed is double, I doubt that that trick would under normal conditions.

Not to sound like a total noob but, in Andrew Gardikis speed run of 5 minuets how exactly did he do the alternate pipe glitch in world 4-2 without hitting the vine? I understand that you do not need to hit it but he just ran by it and entered the next pipe and it sent him to where the vine sends you to.

How is it possible to do that because even when I go down the pipe instantly I can not get to the warp zone. The only way I can do it is with the vine warp.

Please read the description on the page linked to by OmnipotentEntity. This sentence in particular, is the important part of it: If the screen is behind Mario (Mario is on the right side of screen), you can enter the previous Entry's target.

When ever I go down the pipe my game always scrolls while I go down, going down the pipe even as fast as I possibly can it still scrolls while the pipe down animation is occurring thusly not allowing me to do this glitch. Is there something wrong with my game or am I doing something I am not supposed to do? fcm movie of me attempting, to show problem: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UB4ZB74V

You have to make a complete stop on the pipe in order for it to work.
