serioulsy. All this talk about Insanity makes me want to play it even more, but we probably will need to wait another few years for it to come out :(.

The latter. IMO, the former is bad game design, and should be avoided as much as feasible. A good game should be detailed and flexible enough so that it is virtually impossible to do the *exact* same thing twice. Hardcoded caps and such make that easier to happen. though that should be balanced with being able to do roughly the same thing twice relatively easily. Super Metroid already does this pretty well overall, one reason why I like it. :)

yay! Insanity is sounding more and more awsome. also, this is as close as I've gotten to opening the gate backwards. It doesn't do the stutter charge like moozooh does, but it also doesn't work.

Didn't seem to be much closer from moozooh's attempt to be honest.

How come people are using springball to try and open this gate? Last time I checked the spring ball was located in Maridia, and that's where this gate is leading. Unless you prepare for alot of unnecesarry backtracking, using springball for this trick is completely pointless. I think it's time we realize and accept the fact that this gate is impossible unless you completely corrupt the game in some way. Like space/time beam or something. Although that one requires plasma beam, which also is in Maridia.

they're aware that using the springball to open that gate is pointless in a speedrun, it's about proving that it might still be possible. I still wouldn't call it impossible (I'd never), but it'd sure require something way more creative than just running and shooting a missile at it.

I doubt it will be possible, but you never know. And Kriole, the point of using spring ball was to try and see if you could open the gate backwards at all (yet it's not really helpful).

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1450472911/soundbug.smv Just a little something I decided to post to get some discussion to the thread. Someone explain why this happens?

Don't know. A quick glance at some offsets didn't tell me anything useful, and I don't really have the motivation to hunt down a small sound bug. I can tell you that the gameplay engine correctly gave the sound engine the command to play the low health alarm (before the movie even started, I think), but I don't know what caused the sound engine to wait a while before playing it.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/801162299/ceresescape.smv Only one more frame needs to be saved in Ceres now. This is done similar to the last one. Delaying a frame in the zig-zag room saves one in the debris room.

I really hope that you'd put the same kind of effort into something else after you are done with ceres :)

Taco, is your overall aim priority to the in-game timer or the Ceres escape timer? It's interesting* to time these various runs of Ceres against each other in all three timing categories. (*Frustrating)

Why assume one frame would be final? :) Those posts would almost bolster Saturn's reasons for secrecy, if this pursuit fit into the goal of anybody else's current runs...

well the final frame to get Saturn's time. also, how do you manipulate refils? I've been trying to get the sidehopper in Green Brinstar past the blue gate to give me a missile refil, but he olny gives me a big health refil, or nothing at all. my health is 93/99 energy btw.

Things that I know may affect luck: 1) frame you shoot on; 2) frame the projectile hits on; 3) your position at teh time of drop generation; 4) amount of energy/ammo; 5) amount of [connected] shots in the room (strange, I know, but it sometimes makes a difference). Try fiddling with these.

You know you can just watch the RNG number, right? Generally, it's only frame dependent. Things like item drops and a few enemies' actions (Gold Space Pirates, many bosses) also reroll the RNG though.

How do you set turbo buttons? I've been doing every single armpump manually with my TAS so far and I've had enough. Also, I'm thinking of doing a test run on Ceres to see what time I'd get on my current TASing level. Please?

Moozooh I remember a good while ago you were talking about increasing Samus's speed even further by shooting randomly in air in middle of arm-pumping, but everyone thought it shouldn't be used because it would be an entertainment loss as shooting in the air randomly while running looks stupid. I'm just interested in could this method save any frames at Ceres? I'm not working on it but this made me thinking.
