Why this game?
I simply wanted to make a TAS of game that was familiar to me. During my childhood I had owned around 30 games for NES and when I looked at the videos on this page I noticed that this was one of few games I had back then which did not have a TAS for it. That is why I ended up with this.
Game plot
You are controlling a chef - the owner of the restaurant "Eaten". However guy named Ohdove has taken over the restaurant so in order for the chef to get it back he has to walk his way through the restaurant until he faces Ohdove.
About the video
I am very happy with this run, even though I am a beginner of making videos like this. Throughout the game I tried to play as accurate as it was theoretically possible. My main enemy during this run was the lagging, which I tried to reduce as much as possible.
Level 1 - Appetizer
Very straight forward level and actually nothing big to say about.
Level 2 - Soup
The first level where you encounter lagging. Basically it occurs when a given number of enemies are on the screen at the same time. I am trying to kill as many enemies as possible to reduce this, if you see that the game is lagging and I nevertheless kill the enemies that is because you would lose time of doing so.
Level 3 - Salad
On this, I first thought you would earn time by going to the bonus stage and there kill you off right away and get teleported forward. This was not the case however, after taking both the ways it turned out that the non-bonus-way was the fastest by around 50 frames. Skipping the bonus also makes the movie more entertaining because at the bonus level the game stands still for some time.
Level 4 - Fish
One thing here worth to mention. On the third last chain that I climb up, I climb on the right side and just manages to kill the chicken. I did about the same thing in level 2 but this time it was tighter! I had 1 frame to turn around, jump and hit it. I tried it for a long time and didn't think it was possible, but then I suddenly made it - I must have done something special in the frames before that because I could only do it once which is very rare, but once is good enough!
Level 5 - Meat
The plate weapon is the god when it comes to lag reducing. I didn't kill the fishes because their death animation lag alot. The plate is useful at the boss too as you can see.
Level 6 - Dessert - Final level
I didn't take the invincibility tool because I had the plate and therefore could reduce more lag at that point. Well, that's about it. Stupid spoon to be impossible to avoid.
Improvement
A TAS of this game has earlier been submitted by Mukki in 16.22.78. However, on that video he plays the slot game between each level which takes about exactly 2 minutes. The improvement in the levels themselves are thus about 53-54 seconds and it is mainly because of more accurate playing, lag reduction and better boss strategies. If you want more indepth info about the game, check Mukki's submission page for this game.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also replaced the ROM name.
  • You indicated Panic Restaurant (U).nes
  • I updated it to Panic Restaurant (U) [!].nes

adelikat: A border line game, but it shows interesting TAS characteristics. It also received a lot of attention for a such an obscure game. Most that attention was positive, so I will accept it for publication.

Boring. Not by any fault of the TASer, but the game itself is just awful. The bosses were so contrived. There wasn't any real speed to the game. The only thing I liked was the after input finished and it says "Restaurant Eaten - The End." Silly to name the restaurant Eaten =) No Vote.

For one of your first TASes this is pretty good. It was also one of my first TASes and you performed much better than I did :) Lag can be very difficult to manage, and this game has a considerable amount, but you handled it well. I wonder if you did use my run for comparison? It was very suboptimal (as you no doubt found out). Did you know of Acmlm's run? It was much better than mine and may have been of more use. I enjoyed watching an optimised run of this game (so my vote is yes), although I feel the painfully slow pace will hold it back from getting yes votes from the many that don't know it.

I just used your (Mukki's) video after each level to see how much time I had gained. For the playing itself I figured out the most suitable solution to all situations my self - I like to walk in unknown terrains:) I really think I have potential o accomplish something good at this site but itseems that I'm not choosing the best suitable games for it. Next time I'll try a game with a faster moving character, but that won't be for awhile. Also, seems like the robot couldn't find my rom, or did it only take one screen shot just at the start of the game:)

Not too bad a choice of game. I could imagine watching this again the next time I'm semi-bedridden. It looked like it was riddled with small inefficiencies, so laggy as this game is. I verified only one flaw, though: around frame 8500, you could have saved ~30 frames by finishing off the second goomba-like monster. I had a positive impression of it overall, so Yes vote. And an aside: EaTen is probably Japanese for the words "ea" and "ten". Whatever that's supposed to mean.

While the run is technically well played, I feel the game is too slow-paced and bizarre to entertain effectively. Meh vote for some redeeming technical value.

I forgot to answer this. Yes knew about it, but that run is 14.26 compared to your 16.22 - slots (= 2.00) so yours is a bit better in pure gaming, don't underrate yourself=) I did use it once however, in the middle of the last stage to estimate a possible completion time for me. At that time it pointed at 13.35 but a wimp for last boss reduced that quite a lot! Thank you all for every single feedback! I'll take everything into account for my next run.

Yes from me. I was entertained by the run and couldn't see anything improvable. I liked how you boosted down ladders by jumping into the ceilings.

I liked the boss fights. The game it rich in terms of optimization possibilities and you handled those situations well. The game got a lot more interesting after the 1st level (which most games do :P). The lag was a real pain though. The ice level towards the end was essentially a 30fps level. I vote yes.

This is not actually the first Panic Restaurant submission we receive. Mukki submitted one last year: http://tasvideos.org/1313S.html His submission was considerably longer than this, and he cancelled it then. This game looks to me as a combination of Bucky O'Hare, Flintstones and Rocking Cats. None of them are particularly my favourites. I did not find this movie entertaining, so I vote no.
