Quackshot is debateably the best Disney game ever made and somewhat overlooked as well. The movie improves nifboy's version by about a minute and its also a good example of how far TASing has come since then, mainly through the advancement of better tools and experience.
Unlike Megaman, the main character Donald duck slides on his belly and has to obtain items in order to advance further in previous levels and to sometimes return in future to make a further advancement in the current level. The game is relativley sequence break proof, mostly because the items required are either needed to be used time and time again or that its simply impossible to avoid using the item at all. In the Egyptian pyramid (not the first one entered) its possible to skip the sceptor, but unlike Flashback the game does not make any kinds of assumptions that you already have aquired an item before reaching a certain point.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Manipulates luck
  • Plays as a duck

Level notes

Mexico:

Some improvements in the slope glitch. Basically, Donald maintains the same speed when he runs up a slope from a sliding position although it doesn't last forever since the glitch acts as if the sliding it about to come to a halt. The glitch will be more noticable on steep slopes since the glitch tries to maintain the same horizontal speed. The second part of mexico may seem entirely automated but the platforms only load when you reach a certain postion so its important to be as quick as possible and only wait until the gaps become narrow enough to make the oposite platforms.

Duckburg

I sacrifice a little time to get a pop corn pellet by jumping slightly higher after stunning an enemy this is neccessary for a big time saver later on in the Egyptian level

Transalvania

There is a weird pause glitch I discovered late on in the run so I had to test various places after to see if it saved time. This is the first place that saved time, it might not look it but it saves 3 frames. length of the black screen depends on the length of the text and it generally only saves time when you need to switch weapons or use an object anyway. I use bubbles on dracula since I had great problems with the final hit. plus the game lags a bit when you kill Dracula with a plunger plus Donald needs to stand directly under Dracula to hit him since he can't hit him off screan

Egypt

A new trick which saves a lot of time at the end. I'm surprised it was overlooked in the past.

South Pole

Potential sequence break here but the bubbles were falling just pixels short of breaking the ice cubes at the start, so I couldn't obtain the book earlier, which would have been a good thing since the game unavoidably lags like crazy. My guess is that the programmers used near perfect checks and also had too many things loaded on screen at once.

Hideout

I sacrifice a frame to show off a little glitch at the end of the mine cart section. Also there is a nice shortcut here towards the end that saves 12 seconds, maintaining sliding in mid-air for that long is difficult but I successfully managed it in the end.

Final level

There is a ceiling boundary which prevents what could have been a very cool shortcut

Bisqwit: Correcting the ROM name; without, NesVideoAgent would have no hope of guessing the right ROM...

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. I'm not sure I got the right ROM though. (I tried Quack Shot Starring Donald Duck (W) (REV00) [!].gen, which was the closest match to what you wrote.) Well, here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.
Removed because it desynced.

Truncated: Accepted. In spite of the bad votes, noone have pointed out any technical mistakes. It is also a big improvement over our current movie.

Great game, good improvement. I liked the cart rides (wish they were longer), and what you did after the tiger boss cracked me up. Some peoples reasons for voting no are just ridiculous, but I do agree somewhat about taking damage.. it got really annoying when you fought Pete.

Speed vs. Entertainment: There's already a copy of the no-damage nifboy submission that's likely to stay around. I'll admit that the damage reduced the entertainment, but you can't deny the clock it's saved time. Yes vote, for speed gains on a speedrun, and adequate movie archiving

Great work AKA. I enjoyed watching it. I especially like the silly sound of when you jump, fire and take damage. Voted yes.

I agree with your decision, truncated... regardless of how big a (supposed) dick aka is, that doesnt make his movie rock any less (i am a neutral party, so no offence to you aka) One question, in transylvania right before you enter the castle (i dont know the frame number) you miss a bat with your plunger. is there a reason for this? because, to me, it looks as if it was just a sloppy missed shot. EDIT i also noticed, still in transylvania (but in the underwater part) you shoot at a big black ball, where your plungers fly past and stick to a wall. you do not use one of these plungers, and it just fades away... is this, too, a missed shot?

In order to get the fastest time, you need to make Donald slide for as much as possible, shooting the plungers causes his hit box to rise and so you can avoid having to jump so high or even clear certain obstacles without being hit. Donald is quite a sloppy character and I tried to convey that without wasting time (ok 1 frame) thats why there is a lot of missed shots but there purposeful when Donald doesn't require to wait such as the first point you brought up. To sum up, that was a stylistic choice which doesn't incur any time.

Don't think I understood. Did it waste 0 frames or 1 frame?

"(ok 1 frame)" I didn't see any mention of a one frame loss in the submission text. You're going to need to clarify this. Edit: Perhaps I should qualify too. I'm talking about something associated with the question he asked above. Edit: oooooh ok actually I figured it out I think. You're saying the missed plunger shots didn't lose any time (and did in fact save time), and that the only "unnecessary" thing in the entire run is one sacrificed frame somewhere to show off some glitch. Right?

Voted meh, since the movie's already accepted. After watch NifBoy's run, this one just don't seem to do the work. I hate when some very cool movie is obsoleted by one less entertaining. Still, it has it's merits, and IS technically better made. I still think Niffy's run should stay at the list of the official runs, but referring to a different mode, being "aims for the shortest time with the restriction of not being hit". Non-hit runs are cool, and Niffy's was great.

That idea has merit, but unfortunately the technical quality IMO is too inferior to justify keeping the other one published. Of course the AVI for that run is still availble via the archive.org link. One thing I will say is, while arguably avoiding damage may look better, I think the run I did was more entertaining during waiting periods as a whole.

Unfortunately, a "meh" run. It's technically impressive, but the entertainment factor isn't there.
