Sorry for the double post, but:
Is it slower/not possible to do the Crateria missile lake CWJ with the high jump boots? I just watched Kriole's SM:I TAS WIP 4 and he took the off just for the jump and for that pre-WS lake too, and kinda missed the point of doing so.
Someone please mind explaining me the meaning of this?

It's possible, it's even possible with the highest speed obtainable without acceleration storage, maybe even with (though it's only a 4096 subpx/frame difference so it does not matter much.)
I dunno if highjump will make the room after slower though... but that might be solved by more CWJ's.
Yeah but I'm still missing the point in taking the hi-jump off just for those few rooms.
By the way Cpadolf, it'd be nice to see you online on MSN every once in a while. :P

Well people who TAS on his level often tend to (as did I in my early work) be lazy, so if something is possible to do easier while taking approximately as much time (ingame) you do that even if it looks bad. Maybe he fond it easier to do the missile lake CWJ without hijump, or more likely he found the WS lake room to be easier without them, I don't remember if it's possible or not to do the first two jumps there with hijump without doing a walljump at the end of it.
Or he simply thought it to be impossible to do it without hiump but where wrong.
Or he is stupid.
Or I don't know.
BTW Tonksi, why don't you log on to MSN when I'm in instead :)
Does anyone know what determines if Draygon will keep firing his goo? I've had times where I lay one powerbomb and he'll keep shooting afterwards, and times when he stops mid-explosion. If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with how close I'm standing; I had a great (non-tool-assisted) fight where I was running along underneath him, firing missiles straight up into his belly and he didn't do anything about it. Of course, it could also just be random.

Is it not possible to make that hallway faster on the way to ridley to? Because now it is 2 frames faster on the way back. Also does that not affect the perfect steam in the second to last room? Good job anyway.
And now that the thread is up again, how is it going with everyones runs, any progress being made?
Godammit Taco, stop spoiling all my tricks already!
What challenges other than copying your input will be left for moozooh and others that way in the future?
It's pity that you discover such crazy tricks, yet don't try to make a full TAS for this game. You really have potential in deep technical analyzing I didn't see from anybody else yet (as a opposite to deep strategical analyzing often shown by hero of the day). :-(
Regarding my progress, despite strongly wanting to finish my old RBO run (due to excellent luck manipulation and optimization in LN and Ridley) I start to consider redoing it after Kriole found a way to get the "Wave Beam Gate" Energy Tank in pink Brinstar. I would use a slight modification of hero's route and still skip Crocomire to save alot of time that way. But this will happen after I finish the SM-Redesign project first. Lately I was very busy and just couldn't find the time to work on TASes at all, so the progress is terribly slow at the moment. Sorry.
Taco:
Really nice, what's the time now, '49"11 or what?
Saturn:
Redoing so that you'd have to do Ridley and LN again? Haha no offence but that's the stupidest idea ever, I'll tell you why: In my opinion the Speedrun prewiev #3 is the most legendary TAS-music video ever, and I love your LN by what I've seen from that video, if I'd watch your TAS redone from that point it wouldn't be nearly the same... I'm waiting for your RBO the way it is, not the way it would be faster and less entertaining. I'm talking about the refil manipulation and all that, I doubt you could do it all the same way, and all because of 1 faster etank.
Take the bull by the horns and finish your TASes man. :) I'm eager to see them. If you only do 1 room a day and make that like your aim I'm sure you'll finish the TASes rather faster than what your progress is on the moment from what I've seen you commenting on it.
Taco should really make a full run too, congrats on another saved frame. :)

The thing with getting that E-tank early is that it allows for a rather big route change and combined with torizo skip and various other new tricks it would make the run much faster. Still I think you should finish it as it is though
Yes I understand that it'd be a lot faster, but I'd just love to see the run as it has been so far from what I've seen from the teasers. And I thought this is more like entertainment run, and in that it has succeeded best from all the runs so far in my opinion.
Saturn:
Have you done the big SB Kriole discovered yet? In your TAS that is..

Well, it is a entertainment run (that shows routes and strategies never done before) in first place, but of course I also aimed for fastest possible time. Though considering that people appreciate this old run nevertheless, and because all the work that had to be redone until Maridia, I will think about restarting it one more time. It's just that the motivation I had when I worked on LN and Ridley is not that strong anymore, due to knowing that the run can be improved route wise. I just hope the quality of the run won't suffer if I'd continue working on it. We'll see.
Regarding the SB, no spoiling about it "yet". ;-)
If you don't mind, Saturn, could you possibly stop trying to persuade other people to stop sharing their tricks in a useful and community-centred fashion? Thankyou.

The timer would be 49"12'...
I always knew that the time Saturn described was the result of a Technical change (or trick), not simply optimization. The most optimized run would not have even got 49"15' unless the runner knew about this obscure little quirk in the game's mechanics. Though I have to admit that the 2 frames Taco found in the final room were the result of optimization.
Since 3 frames have now been accounted for, there are only 2 remaining to achieve the "15 timer. Well done Taco.
Saturn:
I hope you do start your RBO run again, it really was an impressive concept and looked great based on your music videos. I think a great deal of stuff has been discovered since your started your run, so a brand new run would be even more impressive.
I think the last two frames would be opening the door in the debris room two frames earlier. The smv we used had just enough leeway for optimization of the previous room door entry and the runway before the steam boost to take damage a frame earlier in the room and reach the door in time. I did a sloppy test a month ago, and was less than a pixel short of the required distance.
Lag:
It actually wasn't meant serious. I just wanted to express my impression of Taco's incredible analyzing skills. Who would ever come to the idea to "intentionally" sacrifice a frame in the previous room? Certainly not if one works in moozooh-style, hunting for every single frame like crazy (thats why I was so interested to see if he would ever find it on his own).
So what are you waiting for when you're so sure about everything? You're really a strange guy. Take the opportunity and contribute something useful for Ceres as long as it's not too late.
Though seeing how well Taco did in the past, I think he will most likely be the person to find the last 2 frames anyway...
Because you have more knowledge about SM-TASing and optimization tricks at the moment. And it's hard for me to believe that you wouldn't like to improve Ceres by your own just like you do it with Zebes. It's much more likely that the insecurity to not be able to reach my time keeps you back from even trying in one of your TASes. Thats why I regret mentioning my time at all, as said on M2k2 already. I can understand that it's hard to admit such things for you, but it's just obvious.
On another subject, did you manage to save the 2 frames before the Torizo room I told you on IRC?
Having much knowledge doesn't obligate me to apply it everywhere anyone points me to. I'm already a hard enough player to motivate, as if you didn't know… I do share my knowledge with everyone who asks me, though, so I bear no guilt on that part. If I started rambling about how you knowing so much (definitely not less than me) about Super Metroid didn't beat my times on Zebes yet, would you immediately start doing that until you have fully succeeded? I don't think so, as you have other things to do beside accepting silly challenges. And so do I.
My security, in fact, lets me not concern myself with anything I don't want to do at the moment (Ceres, for example) in the least, until I run out of better things to do and am fully up for it. What makes you keep on pestering me about optimizing Ceres does look like an insecurity, though, because you just won't let it go. I'm not bothered by personal achievements and persons behind them; you are.
Haven't tried yet. I've had a couple ideas, though, and might try them soon, perhaps today.
[EDIT] improved grammar.
