For the record, Mr_Sweed did not need my permission, nor did I imply he needed my permission to post. I am nobody :) I merely urged him to post what he found in case Nitsuja determines its useful.
No, you just threatened him with THE FIST!!! On a more serious note, those are pretty spiffy, though I'm not entirely sure about the usefulness either.

hahaha, nice find and good show. Too bad it's a lot slower than the non-glitched way... and this should have been a reply to the other thread about this same topic. :)

This is an old find.

I hate to do this in such an anonymous noob way, but I didn't know any other way to make this request. I have a request for a TAS of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I've watched all the Sonic speedruns on this site and loved them all, and of course I adore the games themselves. What I'd love to see that no-one has done is a Super or Hyper Sonic speedrun. What you guys can do with just the normal blue hedgehog is amazing, but I'd love to see what you can do with the super-speed, higher jump, and invincibility of Super Sonic, not to mention the "Sonic Boom" of Hyper Sonic. I realize that most of the time the levels finish with far less than the 50 rings needed to transform, but I wonder if, for some levels, getting the 50 rings (either hitting a big ring or just picking them up en route) and going super might actually allow you to complete the level faster. Just an idea I had, and something I'd love to see if someone wants to try.

You can beat some levels faster as hyper.... but slowing down to get those bonus stages and actually completing them all... people didn't even like the TAS that did that with Knucles.

Well, a lot of the hate directed at the special stages was due to the fact that the second set accomplished nothing. If this run were to take place, it would also receive the criticism that the special stages would be the same as Upthorn's... but at least there'd be some tradeoff. I'd support it, but I have too much I want to do myself to take it on.

Now, this is gonna generate a lot of debate.... But you could use an existing srm file with all the Emeralds already collected, then speed through the whole game as Hyper Sonic. Interesting to note is that finding a big ring (after having all the Emeralds) gives you 50 rings each time. At least this way, you'll never have to see a special stage, and you can go Hyper from the start.

The New Game+ Chrono Trigger run would suggest that using a run starting with all emeralds could be published under the 'concept demo/other' category.

The snes9x movie file format also has support for including the SRM with the movie. The gens movie file format doesn't, so users would have to generate, or otherwise obtain their own somehow. I don't think a run that did things this way would be publishable at all.

Um, I don't think I would vote yes on such a run(if it was possible to make). In my eyes it's pretty useless (and I hate the hyper sonic music).

I am of the opinion that the true Final Boss will make this run worth it.

I share this opinion. Also, Upthorn's 100% Knuckles run is my favorite run by far on this site. But thats just because this is truly my favorite console game ever.

I agree with this. That said, I would hope many more things can be broken with the use of Super/Hyper Sonic. I suppose noone will really know unless they give it a go..

That's true... I've seen a few broken things with Hyper Sonic, but never any that seemed useful. Of course, this was a long time ago. However, it might be interesting to try. I know people don't approve of cheat codes usually, but there's always the Sound Test and All Emeralds cheats, if we want. I'd get around the need to have a previously completed file for sure, and I'm sure it gives access to Sonic's final boss, as well. Ok. You can start tossing stones, now. :P

This should only be used for testing. making an actual run with sound test and all emeralds cheats is an absolute no-no in my opinion.

There actually isn't an all emeralds cheat in S3K, but if you activate debug, this is rendered moot by the fact that you can place monitors that turn you hyper and give 50 rings wherever you want.

Doing that would be lame. And fun.

I disagree with the fun. It would have to be some craaazy antics and some diabolical tails-punishing-schemes for it to be entertaining. Perhaps showing some cool things off like the Knuckles-on-Sonic quest (or vice versa) would be a good idea for something like that.

I figured that the suggestion wouldn't turn up a good response. It was an idea, though. Shows how much I know about TASing, right? :P Oh, and it looks pretty crazy when you beat Doomsday with Knuckles... The whole ending looks messed up. Two Master Emeralds... Two Knuckles... You have to try it out, it really is funny. Oh, and there are SO many ways to crash and/or reset the game, it might be interesting to do a demo of that. Even if not for submission, just for laughs.

This is what I meant by the Knuckles-on-Sonic quest. You play as many levels as possible using Knuckles in Sonic's areas, activating Debug only to zip to the start of the area (or in some unavoidable cases, moving through walls obstructing the path).

I would like to see a concept demo of the following: Start the game with all 14 emeralds. Play as Sonic and beat Doomsday Zone. That's it. End game as Dr. Eggman is beaten. It would be in the guidelines, since you'd just need a save file with all the emeralds collected.
Taking over the world, one game at a time. Currently TASing: Nothing

In all honesty, the "starting with 14 emeralds" approach was what I had in mind when I made the original request. Just to give you an idea of where this is coming from: even with my paltry skills I can beat angel Island zone 1 ridiculously quickly by backtracking a little and grabbing the first giant ring, which gives me 50 rings automatically and allows me to transform into Hyper Sonic instantly. That's the kind of thing I want to see pushed to its limit. Also, yes, a speedrun the final boss fight would be FRIKKEN AWESOME. I didn't even think about that, but I definitely want to see someone try it out now.

I'd love to see a run with Sonic starting with the 14 emeralds. Heck, I'd be just fine seeing him collect them all, just like I liked the Knuckles run (though I skipped all the 3D parts.) Even if it isn't officially accepted by the site, I'd still watch it a lot!

I'd like to see a run of this kind, indeed. Besides, I can just simply get something to eat while the special stages are up. Or play Halo.
