Nice one hero. :-)
If it's optimized it will save 7 frames to the mockball strategy (which also looks a bit cooler IMO, so another slight entertainment loss). Best thing of this strategy is that it doesn't sacrifice any more damage points (despite a double damage boost) for the speed gains, so it's a sure way to go.
This game never stops being surprising thanks to guys like you hero. :) I've said this before and I'll say it again: yours is a creativity with no boundaries at all.

Thanks :)
indeed this game is a never ending puzzle, where small strategic changes can happen in just about every room. I think I have found almost all of them now, but I am sure there are a few left yet undiscovered. We just need more people to think outside the box.
Hey this is golf from M2K2. I've been lurking around here for a while and i'm just wondering about Moozooh and Evilchen's runs. Any progress? I'm looking forward to some new stuff and thoroughly enjoyed Cpadolf's TAS. Shame its not published.
Hero i've seen about 5 of your SMV's with little tricks that can save sometimes up to a second. Compliments on that.
I don't think I have the patience for TASing, mainly because of luck manipulation being too time consuming and frustrating. However, I did finish my second RBO and posted it at M2K2, any feedback appreciated.

It uses a whole new route (mostly stuff suggested by hero and saturn) and also exploits the pause trick (only for a little while, don't worry) to grab the speed booster and wave beam with 2 tanks.
Completion time of 0:47
Hey there.
Yeah, there has been some slow but confident progress; currently we're up to pre-Torizo room in NBMB with 40 frames saved over my low% test run (granted it's comparable to any run up to this point), and planning on being a full second ahead before Brinstar. As for my low% test run itself, I've continued a bit and stopped at ~4.5 minutes of ingame time. I'm rarely working on it, but I do it in considerably large chunks at a time.
Haha.. I only noticed that movie right now. >_< I don't check that topic often.
That trick has been found independently a few times. The first person to tell me of it (via AIM, IIRC) is the one listed in m3.c. That was probably ~6 years ago, and he supplied a zmv of it as well, though that's probably lost by now.

... Yeah, he took it a step further. That particular implementation was a Bad Idea(tm), by the way.

That's a script action; no damage.

Seems like Taco is the only one who seriously has chances to match my record someday. I'm impressed a guy who never actually did a serious TAS, gets such good results that early. Great job!

He improved the very first walljump in that room. It's actually funny nobody ever noticed that before. :-)
wanna see it but i cant connect to dehacked anymore i dunno why, but awesome work taco i think you own that room, what did ya change?
I kind of did the same thing as last time, but better. On the 49'08 I went out as far as I could from the door and then turned to do the walljump, but on this one I turned as soon as possible and then started moving to the left, which saved a frame I guess.
Also, I couldn't connect to dehacked last night when I tried to upload that, so it's not only you...

Thanks. :) It's been bugging me for a while as to how you got 49'15. The time really is hard to beleive, so I've been trying to figure it out for a while. When I found the trick that gave me 49'08 I wrongly assumed that it was the best way to do that room, and decided to try that part out again last night, and then got 49'10.
saturn :x your ingameframe count is far beyond a record because you added ingameframes, if taco used the smv from moozooh, jxq, hero, me and whom ever thats the highest record .. yet :D
if you meant record from the clockdisplay iam sorry xD

Of course I meant only the clock. You SM-fellows should know that by now. :-)
Though the fact that saturn added ingame frames does not mean his Escape is slower. From leaving ridleys room he must be 3 frames faster then 49:10 am I right?
Hello.
I remember talking about getting a super missile through the green gate that hero is trying to break? I'm not sure if this is of any use, but I'm going to post it anyway. Here's the way I got it through. I think I've gotten it to hit the opposite wall a couple of times too.

Just Press Fire
Or for more fun, give yourself a super jump charge and follow your shot (7E0A6802)
There is technically additional collision detection for super missiles that try to go through walls. Long story short, it just really doesn't do anything, fast super missiles go through walls anyways despite the fact it seems to hit the wall.
Unless you can get enough speed to go through two blocks, or to go through at a diagonal, it's not going to do any good.

It's a very old mockball, actually. Japanese players have been using it for years, I never actually got to compare it to the already used methods…

Although I didn't compare it, I would say it's faster if you don't have PBs here. The gain from the mockball seems to be bigger than the slight slowdown required in the previous room.
EDIT:
Oh, and it's definitely faster than starting from the right of that room, because of the momentum cancel.

That's a hell of an exploit. I was wondering why you wouldn't die. Does it only work at 0 health, or any time?
Long story short, the code that checks if Samus's health is 0 IS NOT RUN while pausing the screen. Pausing the screen is considered a different game mode than normal gameplay, and the death animation is a different game mode too. For some reason, the check to kill Samus is only in the normal gameplay mode, I think.

Hero I have an idea for your TAS if it's not too late:
When you enter LN you start running right, you have speed booster and no hi-jumps yeah? Do a CWJ in that room (I think you pretty much know what I mean) and after that shoot the door open with your wave beam and in the most optimal place mid-air morph to go through the door, then on the other side you're already in morph ball without losing any momentum in the last room and you can place PB immediately.
I tried hard to record smv but not matter how I tried I couldn't actually get the CWJ work. :(
EDIT:
Could you possibly try to record an smv about it for me if it's possible/faster?

I know exactly what you are talking about :) I have made many test runs through that room a few months ago. Unfortunately the only way to clear the entire room with a CWJ is to increase Samus' speed by a lot, but with too much speed the CWJ becomes impossible. The alternative is to run at a slower speed, thus making the CWJ possible, but with such slow speed it is impossible to clear the entire room. I would be very amazed if someone managed to gain full running speed and still pull off the CWJ on the bottom ledge.
