Hey, I'm going to start on an 8 Eyes run on the weekend, probably. I have the level order and some general boss/room strategies planned out, but if any of you kids knows of any glitches/stratefies which may be useful, I'd love to hear them, you know, before I get down to serious recording ;D Also, I'm probably going to use 2 controllers, because the stabbing animation Orin does when Cutris is activated in a 1 player game wastes time. Sometimes, you can stab an enemy at the same time, or activate Cutris on stairs, but... you know... not always... Anyways, cheers

Ok cool, I hope you will use FCEU to run this game.

I certainly could use FCEU, got it on the box as well... Does Famtasia not handle the 2 controllers well or something? I haven't really tried recording with 2 yet.

Hey guys, uh... I've just got around to starting this thing, and here's what's cooking for level 1: 1st Sage I'm still new at this, so I'm fishing for suggestions to improve the thing. Am I missing any obvious shotcuts? Do I sux0r? You know. Whatever. Edit: Oh yeah, uh. It's on Famtasia, and I decided to take damage to save time... though I'm not sure if I like how that looks.

I refreshed my memory this morning by playing through the game in real time. I'm going to start TASing it. This is how it's going to be done: - Normal difficulty (any harder and the game would drag out (see my Spider-Man submission for a prime example)). - Make good use of Orin and Cutrus as a team. - The castle order will be Spain, Egypt, Italy, India, Africa, Germany. Then Ruth. - Also, hope to make good use of the ice balls to fight the bosses. This game never struck me as particularly glitchy. I have never found/heard of a good one. Anyone?

Actually, I started casually working on this (again) about a week ago. It's a real pain to optimize. I haven't found any glitches. I was going to put together a rough testrun, halfassedly optimized, and see what everyone thought before committing myself to it. I'm having the usual internet woes, so I'll post my test of the first 2 levels (same level order, I think?) as soon as I can, so you have something to compare to. I wasn't going to collect ice balls or the Z jars in the test, but I imagine both would be useful, depending on where they were and whom the boss is. I'm not sure how long the Z jar lasts, but there's at least 1 level where it's in the boss room, if I recall correctly. If you don't have to go too far out of the way for the ice ball, and the boss moves around a lot, then go for it. For the first level I play's boss, I don't think the ice ball is useful, but for the second, I'd say yes. I can tell you that stabbing is faster than jumping, if you have to use Orin to get by an enemy. Otherwise, it's best to stun with Cutrus and run with Orin. Taking damage on stairs doesn't seem to slow you down. I don't have lots of time right now to work on it, so I'm glad someone's taking it up. I'll play around and see if I can find anything for you. And good luck ;) edit: here's the levels 1&2 test It's not optimal by any means, but I've tried out various strategies in various rooms. Maybe you'll get some ideas and/or see what not to do ;) In particular the rooms that involve jumping are not done well.

That was helpful. From this i saw that you can run through most enemies without dying. I'll give this a shot. I'll do the same two levels, i think that - 4:00mins (hopefully comfortably under) will be pretty good going.

The only really useful quirk I've found thus far that doesn't appear in that test is that if you press down and forward on the last frame you are still on a platform, you will drop straight down. This has applications in rooms where the goal is below and behind you. Be sure to post wips. I'd love to see this done :D

This game *is* a nightmare to optimise; mainly because the collision detection boxes are unusually large. I shall persist however. I have done about half of the 1st stage and i hope to post a WIP of the 1st stage very soon. Inzult, as far as your TAS goes it is very optimal thus far as i have only been able to gain frames at my current position. I'm guessing that you began with the intention of a TAS but decided to make it only a test run. The only area of improvement i think so far is on the first archer on the roof. I was able to get past him without stopping to destroy his arrows.

No, I made it with the intention of being a test, but not looking like shit. So it'd still convey the idea of what the real TAS would look like, but I wouldn't gouge my eyes out in a fit of rage trying to be frame perfect while learning the game and figuring out what to do.

That's cool. There are plenty of ways to distract with Cutrus while sneaking around with Orin (I assume that's what you did). It becomes some super stealth game when you slow it down :D I look forward to the wip :) Also, I hope you test prejumping vs just falling off ledges. The jump animation is pretty slow and the downward acceleration seems pretty fast... I know I never even bothered to check when to jump and when not to, so you'll find a lot more time on the way back down and in the next stage ;)

It's slow. I've been looking a lot at your WIP and i've tried different things to gain frames over it, however, it is very difficult. I reckon you became more adventurous in the later parts of the level and then i won't get as pissed off, however the earlier parts are really good. Combine that with countless restarts and you should know that this is a very difficult game to optimize. I'll get there, work is continuing and i'll post a WIP once i am happy with the first level. I've done and redone the first two screens many times and at the moment i am 18 frames ahead. Mainly because i got past the knight without the need to jump.

Majora's Mask now is my main priority so I can't spend as much time with this as I'd like. However, I honestly have real plans to finish this run. I started out quite I while ago but was never entirely satisfied and so I made many restarts. At present about half of the first level is now flawless to my satisfaction.
