See: "Walker Boh" - for a reason why I posted this, plus Arc didn't update it on the Superplay's site when he did the last update - so he must not know as well. I'm working on ALttP, actually, right now.

Bravo! I really enjoyed watching your run(s). Lots of things I didn't know. I'm impatient to see the next one.

I am entertained by TSA's comments concerning the run. It's the best run currently in existence, yes, but it is hardly "pretty much error free." Slightly detrimental errors and slightly inferior play are in abundant supply throughout the entire video. In addition it truly is not that challenging to hop sideways and backwards significantly more than is currently done. It is clear to me that the current best run, while, again, being the best, is a very poor approximation of the true limits of human endeavor. I say very assuredly that a sub 5 hour clone of that run is possible, indeed, I believe I could do it without much trouble. That being said, I have no intention of ever doing it, so take my words to mean what you will. A note to TSA: I truly don't intend to offend with my harsh criticisms, and I highly enjoyed your run, but those who speak so boldly should expect devastating and perspicacious arguments, especially in a place like this, from people like me.

I'm have now watched about one third of the run and I'm quite impressed with it. You do remarkably few mistakes for a 5-hour single-segment run and do some hard-looking things right the first time. Only thing I'm getting annoyed with is the friggin' 'Hah'-sound that comes every time you roll. Good thing about the game is that it doesn't allow you to skip (most) plot sequences. I can follow the plot while watching this movie without pausing the video every few seconds. I like this a lot, I'm sure to watch the things you come up with next.

Oh sure, talk a lot of trash and I won't be offended. No really, it's ok. If you mean an emulator can beat my run, sure. But I am quite confident nobody is going to beat my run in a single segment on an N64 unit. Want to prove me wrong? Go ahead. You said it's so easy. Be my guest. Cuz I'm glad you found my remarks so amusing. Your remarks are equally amusing to me. I mean, sure - now that you've seen the labors of mine and others' works, you have a shot of doing a nice run that low, but honestly - I don't think you truly grasp this run. This isn't something done with emulators. It was five straight hours of gameplay. I never said it was "perfect", but it is pretty much major error free. If you think certain movement issues and "imperfect" attacking = errors, well, you're wrong. Missed opportunities, of course. But not errors. So I'll stop ranting. And I'll stop bragging about this run, when you or somebody else beats me (legitly).

Good thing about the game is that it doesn't allow you to skip (most) plot sequences. I can follow the plot while watching this movie without pausing the video every few seconds. It might be good for first time players, but it's rather boring for speed runners who have already played the game many times. However, unskippable plot sequences do give speed runners the advantage of being to take breaks without it affecting their time which is especially important for long games like OoT. I say very assuredly that a sub 5 hour clone of that run is possible, indeed, I believe I could do it without much trouble. I'd like to know what your definition of "much" is. Edit: Btw, I have a question for you, TSA. Sorry for my extreme offtopicness (is that a word?), but I was wondering why you haven't joined the MK64 site. I was looking at cyberscore.net and noticed that you have some pretty good times. Maybe you could even become world champion in a non-Zelda game for a change if you make MK64 your next project after ALttP.

I have to say, I was very impressed with it. All in all real speedruns are *much* more difficult to pull off than emulated ones. And to pull of one of this quality on such a long game must have been frustrating. That said Zelda 64 isn't that difficult of a game. I've done a 3 heart, no death, one chance run before just for shits and giggles and I've seen someone do a no-damage run. (Both nowhere near as fast as that though) So I agree there's not much more that can be done beyond that on an N64. And because I don't know of a movie recording, time warping N64 emulator (let alone one that emulates the analog stick well), I don't see an emulated run getting done anytime soon.

MFried: By "without much trouble" I mean it would be easy (in terms of mastering the OoT skillset) compared to other things I have done on consoles, though it would be very time consuming. That is why I will never do it myself -- if I don't have the time to finish a Sonic 1 time attack, I definitely don't have the time to do an OoT speed run. I more than agree with Entity's assessment of the game. Not only is it "not that difficult," I consider it to be ludicrously easy.

I think it's certainly possible, but not without the most focused mind. TSA certainly must have one, and I'm sure he could do better but with the amount of time he's already spent on it, he should move on for a bit. Master Quest anyone? lol. Only Kidding! I'd love to see it though, and the wind waker (even though I think it's the worst zelda of them all).

Master Quest is completely stupid. I've played through most of it (up into Ganon's Castle) and I must say, plain old OOT is better. Most of the puzzles in the palaces have been turned into boring "play a song at the right spot" sequences... and that's pretty much it. I didn't see any other big differences, but then again I hadn't played OOT for a long time, so I could have forgotten some things. Also, a Master Quest speedrun would be extremely boring to watch since it would almost be identical to the OOT speedrun. Oh, and good job on that OOT speedrun. I think it is very impressive to play through the whole game in 5 hours in one sitting. I haven't watched this run but I did watch the one that came before this one.

The problem with Master Quest is that you must play it on the GameCube. The GCN controller was not designed for Ocarina of Time. It's actually rather detrimental to my gameplay to use the GCN controller. About the ONLY thing it favors is the quick spin attacks - they're somehow easier to pull off. But as for aiming, precision movement, and playing songs - it sucks. If somebody can find a way to play Master Quest on N64, I might be interested. The game definately can be completed quicker than Ocarina of Time. The game is broken in so many places it's not even funny. I skipped half of the Fire and Water Temples on my first try. I really don't have much of an interest in any other games for speed running or competition. I don't have the heart for it, only Zelda. I'm working about 100 times as hard on my ALttP run than I did on my OoT, and the results I am producing in the preliminary practice runs are spectacular. I have a feeling you're going to see a significantly faster WR on ALttP when I'm done. Just a tidbit - I've done about 100 Light World practice runs - the average time gained over the current WR is 52.32 seconds. That's nearly 1 minute. Just a little teaser.

Can't you just use the Japanese version? Is it a 64DD game or a normal N64 game? Either way it should work in an American console.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

My point kinda was there is no other version besides the GCN version, in Japan or the rest of the world. No version was released on N64 or 64 DD ever, even though it was completed.

First, Master's Quest was never released on the N64 in any region in any format. HOWEVER There is a way to play Master's Quest on the N64 if you're really interested. First, you need to get the ROM, I have it on my computer and have played it on 1964 and PJ64. I don't know if this ROM is directly taken from the GCN game or if it's a true N64 version or what... but it works and it's the real deal. Now, to play this on a real N64 is more difficult but still possible. You need an N64 flash ROM cartridge and a way to dump the ROM to it. I have a friend who has two of these cartridges and I'm sure it's easy enough to find dumping hardware/software (pretty much every N64 game has been dumped so, I'm guessing the dumpers are prevalent). Playing this game on a real N64 would be freaking sweet :)

I don't want to play the role of suppression, but keep in mind ROM requests or offers are not allowed on this board. If you folks want to work out this project, please do so through e-mails. Good luck.

Yeah - thanks for that offer - but I meant a legal way. I also think the emulation could possibly have flaws and result in unfavorable conditions. Additionally, the video needs to hold up to criticism - if I do a run via illegal emulation (although technically the GCN game is emulation, too - but LEGAL) means, it won't hold up. So thanks, but I'll keep hoping.

About the 3 heart, 0 death and 0 damage runs - how fast do you think these would be optimally? Like 5:30 or like 7:00?

About the 3 heart, 0 death and 0 damage runs[/i] The "no damage" part cuts out a few tricks, and additionally, you have to get the Zora Tunic. Probably take I'd say...5:15? I don't know. It just seems like you need to be more prudent and you have to cut back here and there, and add a few more steps.

when you play the ocarina at master quest you can also use y istead of c<- and x instead of c-> and z instead of c down when you do so it shoud be easy to play the ocarina

Nothing replaces C-up. however, and it takes a bit more time to tilt a joystick than simply pressing a button.

And it also goes into FP Looking mode (I Think) but that wouldn't be used in a speed run unless you had some time to kill somewhere for some reason. TSA, just wondering, not that anybody would do this but, how long do you think it would take to complete the game getting every heart, magic, tunic, finishing all the side-quests etc. Basically a 100% completed game? Crazy Idea, eh?
