Arc's movie doesn't use it, and I don't think the 100% run uses it either. If this is true, you definitely shouldn't use it to keep consistent, but even if it's not I don't think you should.
You might be able to door glitch to Kraid without using missiles. I managed to get down to the fake Kraid once, didn't try much on the real Kraid.
I think you can get into tourian with just ice beam by boosting off of the flyer when he unfreezes, in arc's last run he gets up high on the frozen flyer so it's just 1 more block up to get out, which is how high you can get boosted I believe. Also there should be no good reason why you couldn't just do it with bombs alone besides maybe taking too much damage from lava setting up a good sequence. At any rate, I think the only missels from mini-bosses is better.

Nope - there's a red missile door right outside of Kraid's room. Even if I could get there, I couldn't open the door.
Heh - I wish I had read this before I went ahead and recorded the whole run. I'm gonna re-record it, but I'm not even sure if I did it properly to begin with. Everyone's movies have the extension .fmv and mine has nothing - Famtasia virgin, ya know. It's fun, though. But if you're curious how I'm doing this, check the progress:
The Most Painstaking Thing I've Ever Done
I meant door glitching directly into Kraid's room.

Hmm...well, the door glitch takes you up and Kraid is at the bottom of the level - it would have to be a seriously funky glitch. Like shoot a door out at the beginning of the level, go up and up and up and see what you find. I've never heard of it, though. But Kraid sure would be easier without missiles than Ridley.
I think I found another door glitch you could use in a 100% run:
In Kraid's Lair, after getting the bottom MP you would keep going right, and door glitch down in the next column. I did the glitch going up before, so it should work for going down too.

If you go off the top of a screen that can scroll up or down you'll go to the bottom of the sceen and then some, how far I'm not sure because your invisible.

I just checked it. It looks really cool! I have one question though. If you are going to improve this, wouldn't it be faster to take that missile pack you skipped? And maybe use those few missiles to kill those balls? Im not that familiar with Metroid actually so I don't really know but I think it was a cool route.

Brilliant run. I loved the ending where you only had 1 health left (unless that was a desyncing error). What I'd love to see sometime is someone doing a no damage run. That would be the most impressive run for me!
I think past keypresses will affect what happans there (Where the guns fire, rinkas, ect)
As for the run, i'm watching it right now, and what i've seen is quite nice.

Saw it, looks good for a first draft. However:
-don't miss shots.
-abuse luck. Whenever you kill something, get something useful out of it. More life might mean a faster run through Tourain.
-UP+A is way cooler than killing yourself.
Not much choice on the metroids - they move so fast. But I regret the few I missed on Ridley and will fix those up.
Yeah - there are only a few enemies I kill and those are on the way to Tourian from Kraid. I get all the life I need from them - I did abuse it to get myself above 90 life. Sometimes it actually looks a bit cooler to zap a Zeb in mid-air and dodge the next one coming out of the hole - I think it looks cooler, anyway. And besides, in the re-record I'm going to not die so I'll have a lot more time to collect and maintain life.
If you read back a bit in this thread, I didn't know how to set the second controller to record. This was just a trial run. I've made a decision to not use UP+A or kill myself anyway.
Could someone tell me how to do this if possible. And if I, say, pick up from Ridley and go to the entrance of Tourian, won't I have changed everything inside Tourian? I'm not positive how this works, but I'm very pleased with Tourian and I'd like to keep it the way it is.
The only things that could go wrong in my mind are a) some wacky desync(which may take some time to occur. If it does, play the rest of that screen yourself, and hex edit in the frames again the next room). and b) random item drops(this can and almost definitely will happen).
I guess I'll write up a FAQ page about it now. Yes, a FAQ page. I pronounce it fack.

I'm taking up the one item challenge. I've been working on it for about a day and a half now. I'm currently at the starting location in Brinstar, after defeating Ridley, at 5:47.
I've switched to FCEU from Famtasia, and I have to say, that it's so much better. No more slow motion. All I use now is the advance frame. I can't say enough about how nice that feature is. The frame counter is also awesome. It's very helpful to be able to compare times on small things.
I've also improved the first part of Brinstar from my 100% run. I also entered the password much faster this time around. I had used autofire(the only time I used it in the whole run) on the password and slowdown at about 10%. This was from my first attempt at the 100% run. I got up to the wave beam, and decided to start it from scratch, except for entering the password(I started the final run with 3700 rerecords), simply because it was so sloppy. Anyways, I compared runs up to entering the bridge at the top of the first shaft in Brinstar, and I was already up 73 frames from my 100% run, although about 1/3-1/2 of that was from the password alone.
I am going to be using Up+A this time around. Mainly to keep the run short, and also, just because I'm feeling lazy. ^^ I may redo my 100% run after this, but I'm not sure.
The door trick is a bitch in FCEU, though. Half of the time Samus is off of the screen, so I couldn't see what I was doing. The sound in FCEU is horrible if not played at 100%, and that's what I was going by on the 100% run. It was easy to hear when I morphed in Famtasia, but in FCEU it all just sounds garbled at a slow speed, and there is no sound when doing the advance frame.
Didn't plan on writing an essay...
