It's coming along fine. I'm in the middle of the egyptian world right now and I'm averaging about 4 or 5 levels a week.
It will be ready when it's ready. Just relax :)
2.
And just to say when I first started I didn't know much about timeattacking. Since I started at the beginning of September, I've had to start over and do a few optimizations, but I predict this will be done about late November.
But don't hold me to that.
(Just to put it into retrospect, xebra and Sleepz have been working on their Sonic runs since late July and even earlier.)
It's for Genesis. The deal is Gens 9a can support only two ports, but there is an option for a 3rd or 4th player. However, it is part of a multicart and cannot be saved to the movie file when recorded. Instead, they are inactive. Only the ports are saved to a .gmv, not any multicart player.
When the next Gens is released (who knows when that will be) hopefully there will be more than 2 ports, and only then will there be a third player option.
I asked about this in the Gens forum: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1477
It's too bad, because I really want to do this.
Thanks for the fast reply. I just watched it very nice, especially towards the end when all three were all over the place doing their own thing almost in parallel.
I've decided to do an improved version because I've been unsatisfied with the current movie for the past couple monthes now. I've done the first world and have so far improved it by about 13 seconds (I haven't verified exactly how much, but somewhere around there). Here is a preview:

I know some more places that can be improved, most notably the beginning of BBLS can be done faster by using the shield-riding trick. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: First world faster by 895 frames (about 14.9 seconds)
Hello to anyone who's following.
I've just finished Prehistoria with an improvement of 47.7 (!) seconds putting the total improvement time at 62.6 seconds. Here it is. Have a look:

As I suspected using the sheild-riding trick saved a significant amount of time - 15 seconds, almost twice as much as I'd anticipated. Also, I created a few more spots to use the "third player" element and used each character as much as possible without delaying the other's necessary movements. Well, if no one has any suggestions, it's off to Egypt again...
A lot of times the red-haired runner-jumper whatshisname reaches the goal before the others. When the two others move at the same time after that, but one is ahead of the other, you should stop before the goal with whatshisname, switch early, start running with the others, and when one of them is at the goal switch to move the lag-behind and whatshisname.
If that was unintelligible, sorry. Say "you are stupid" and I'll try to write a better explanation.
There was one level where whatshisname started riding an elevator at the start of the level, and the others stood still. Couldn't they move meanwhile? At least one of them, if not both, I mean.
I can understand what you mean, if you're talking about the current movie, which I couldn't find any examples of this in my WIP, which I had kept that in mind. Maybe if you were more specific, I could understand better. By the way, the runner-jumper's name is Erik.
If you're referring to the current movie, I found only two examples you referred to, BTRY & V8TR. These two will be optimized. If there are others, please tell me. If you're talking about trivial activity, I'm trying to cut down on the amount of wobbling in this movie, or was it about something else?
I meant the WIP. I'll go and get times, hold on.
EDIT:
At 3:04 you reach the goal with shieldguy and swordguy at different times. Erik jumpguy is already standing at the goal. You could have switched from Erik earlier and switched back to him and swordguy when shieldguy reached the goal.
Same thing at 4:52, but with roles reversed. You could have left both shieldguy and swordguy further from the goal and started moving them when Erik comes close enough. It's not much here though since both of them have to move on the time Erik approaches. The enemy might complicate things.
6:14 possibly same thing. You have only one guy running at the end when you could have two.
10:06 same thing.
I was wrong about the elevator though. Everything is looking a lot better than the last version. And I welcome less wobbling.
Okay, now I understand what you mean. I thought you meant major gaps like the ones in the current movie.
Hmm.. this is troubling. I'll see what I can do about timing these instances just right. Thanks for catching that.
