Do you mean, squirt tower? Most of the level 10 group got past. I believe you're wrong.
I think he is only slightly wrong, it can be beat using just a 1 squirt tower, but there will be leaks. I know this topic is about xenotactic, but I have played both and desktop td is a far superior game. Xenotactic is fun but really it is just a copy of desktop td except with more lag, less features, no high scores, etc. If you submit scores for normal/hard on desktop td use group name tasvideos. It looks like moozoh and lagdotcom have already done this, I will too next time I play but I have mainly been trying the challenge modes which for some reason don't have a group score thing.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

After figuring out that everything except plasma towers is useless, I managed to beat levels 2-5 on my first try. However, I lost on wave 72 of level 6. That level is stupid hard, actually, it's probably impossible to beat unless you have infinite money (as demonstrated by Bisqwit). Edit: Here's my base before I lost, it's very simple but effective, not effective enough, of course. :P http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3286/baseao6.gif

After you beat either normal or hard on desktop td it allows you to enter your name and an optional group name, so just write in tasvideos for the group name. Edit: actually you enter the group name after you submit the score.

Hmm I haven't tried lvl 6 on xenotactic but according to boco in earlier post its the same as the 100 challenge from desktop td.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

I have survived 72, but only because I leaked heavily. One thing that helps-- the second most upgraded anti air towers seems more cost effective then the max upgraded ones. Dunno if that really makes a difference. Edit: http://www.mypicshare.com/dl5uoozmpic.html Your layout is way better then the one I had been using. played well, you might be ale to get into the 80s with it.

I don't really understand why. Ok, DTD shows you the type of enemies which come next (big deal?), but other than that... it feels too simplistic for my taste. In Xeno Tactic upgrading a weapon gives more visual feedback. While the graphic doesn't change (it would be even better if it did), the change in color gives a very visible and telling feedback. In DTD upgrading a weapon only causes some minuscule dots to appear in the weapon. Hardly very visually rewarding. In Xeno Tactic the better graphics are not only eye candy. They truely give a better feeling when playing the game. Stronger aliens *look* like stronger aliens. In DTD there are just some circles, pacmen and flying cones. They hardly give visual feedback on the strength of the critter. Sounds are better in Xeno Tactic and add to the overall ambient. It sounds like a war. In DTD you have some popping sounds. Your concept of "far superior" is clearly different from mine. I appreciate visual feedback and ambience.

I find Vector TD to be far superior. And Xeno Tactic is inferior to both (it has less enemy variety, less tower variety, less other game elements, and is generally easier).

Desktop Tower Defense is a good game.. that aliens thing isn't. Here's why: -No chain buying, you have to reselect the tower each time -No delay for selling, juggling is already too good, you don't need to strengthen it -No sending multiple waves through at once -No notice of fast / immune / splitting / etc enemies or boss levels, or really anything
In my opinion, these are all very good points. The game mechanics are the most important part of any game for me, not the graphics or the sounds. I enjoy DTD's simplistic graphics and sounds more than Xenotactics, too, though.

I found xenotactics graphics to be confusing at first, the main reason I didn't give it a second chance.

Vector TD 10,040,111 on spiral map $ 2,925,343 money at the end, 20 lives left. although i realize now that extra lives don't give bonus at the end, so it's best to let some pass and save some money for extra interest. The strategy was play for 1 and a half hour and save all the money I could. Lots of patience. I bought all upgrades for interest, just put that +25% attack at the last wave. http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1080/vectortd10040111fodavy2.png

My attempt at the spiral map (round the twist): 10,717,101 points with $3,316,113 and 4 lives left. Borrowed a bit of the strategy off of foda. It's definitely improvable by a bit - I built a few towers early, when I could have waited another turn or two. I think it might be worth building a level 1 purple during the early game, as well... http://www.overthemonkey.com/vectortd_roundthetwist_10717101.png

Decent attempt at switchback (VectorTD): 13,487,212 points with $4,669,030 and 9 lives left. Definitely think I can improve that one - I messed up in either level 10 or 15 and had to buy my first red tower then - that $2500 would have made a big difference. I'm almost positive the scoring is based on the money you have, so getting the best score really means being as frugal as possible. http://www.overthemonkey.com/vectortd_switchback_13487212.png

I did Frog again for the first time in a while. Level:43 Score:2.876.799 I wasn't seriously going for the win there. I overspent a bit in some of the earlier rounds and it cost me a few levels.

You can break 43 on No Left Turns? How?

No no, I meant I can do better on "no turns" than on "frog", but I haven't reached 43 on "no turns" yet. My best is 20.

I do not think "no left turns" is beatable. I DO know that "Frog" is beatable but really, really hard.

Switchback: 13,972,479 with $4,924,877 and 5 lives. I think I did near-perfect up until ~32. 18 million seems a long way off.

Maybe the best thing to do is lose 19 lives on the first grey/yellow wave so you can maximize saved money on the start... I just got 12,9 million (my current record) on switchback. But I had 8 lives left.

I don't buy any towers as it is in that round. I make it through with a red level 1 and a blue level 1 that I purchased the turn before.

Still a ways off the record: I'm not sure yet where I can trade those extra lives for more money early on.

Still 1% off the record, but I think I can find an improvement or two:

Argh! This would have been the world record if I hadn't died on the last level. (You can see I have more money than in my previous picture.) Oh well. I screwed up big time in level 45 and was only barely able to save it by putting in that ridiculous junk near the exit. If I try again I think I might be able to end the game with $7.15 - $7.2 million.
