I saw Phil Cote's Castlevania run on youtube. After watching, I went back to the beginning to see the url on the avi's pointer. Then I read the FAQ, joined the IRC channel and started watching a lot of movies.

I was looking for a Pokemon Red speedrun, thinking my 5-hour time was some kind of record, when I found Primo's second TAS. You can still read my n00by comments at the bottom of this page Or, you can read them here: Chamale 31-Jul-2006 Mark as Spam Wow... I did a 5 hour speed run once and thought that that was a record... My increasing interest in speedruns and especially the tas'd ones finally led me to this site. On Youtube there are several TASvideos movies.

I honestly forget how I came here, but I do remember seeing Morimoto's SMB3 run back when it was "new". I also remember learning how the videos were made shortly afterwards. If my profile is to be trusted, I joined here in late 2004, which is shortly after I joined M2K2. I probably lurked a few months before joining.

I was planning some sort of Wizards & Warriors III FAQ/walkthrough when someone on an IRC channel that I no longer frequent linked me to the TAS on this site. After I finally got the FCM to work, I was very surprised, and I joined the site some time after, mostly with the intent of adding the tricks to the walkthrough. In the end, the "walkthrough" ended up being just a list of various pieces of information that could be useful for TASes.

Lol, I did the same thing before I bookmarked it. I thought of the name as a strange variant of biscuit, which made it somewhat easier to remember.

Well, my story is a bit funny: Being a long-time creator and fan of videogame-movies I started to record and share runs once I found the emulation scene (with mainly ZSNES) that allowed it easily. It was way before this site even existed (around 2000). Of course I googled for other possible emu-movie sites, but except of Zophar and a few other unknown ones, I didn't found anything back then. Then in somewhere mid-2004 I already stumbled upon this site accidentally, and checked a few movies, like Genisto's first SMB3 or Frenom's Super Metroid movies. I was of course highly impressed by the speed of this runs, but never realized they were played with savestates and slowdowns. Unfortunately I was very busy with schooling and my own movie projects, and since my first visit was very quickly, I forgot to bookmark the site and remember it for later. :-( Then in beginning of 2005, a guy who enjoyed my ZSNES movies pointed me to another emulator, Snes9x, that could create AVIs and use rerecords (for me a completely new and unknown feature back then). After I finished my last movie on ZSNES (Chrono Trigger), I decided to take a look at Snes9x, even though I was very sceptical at first that it's movie recording feature would not cause desync troubles I have experienced from newer ZSNES versions already. I started to google for all possible stuff around Snes9x (mostly related to movie recording) and found this site again. After seeing it's layout I immediately remembered my quick and unexperienced visit in 2004 there. :-) Obviously I started to record movies on Snes9x after that, which can all be seen in this sites history from that point, since I submitted my very first attempts to it without even knowing it accepts only tools-assitsted runs at first. :-P Check this post on a similar topic if you want to know more about my story with the first movies here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=121917#121917

Lots of people came here because of Morimoto's SMB3. That's sort of why I did, but for slightly different reasons... The SMB3 video was linked to from the Bob and George forums. Somebody mentioned a quick play-through of Mega Man 2. I found a bunch of sites. I began identifying prominent forums. I started hanging out here when the re-recording Genesis emulator was being worked on.

And I'm one of them. I don't remember on what site I saw it first, but I do remember one of my buddies showing it to me. I was like "No wayyy! This dude is ûber 1337 man!", so I made a little research and ended up here. Immediately after joining, I saw what the other TASes and decided I'd give it a shot myself. Then started my first Illusion of Gaia TAS (which sucked).

I found this site after a friend of mine showed me Sleepz Mega Man 3 run. I thought "wow, that was amazing", and got more interested in these runs. I think I googled for "time attack" or something like that and found this site. After watching a few videos I decided to make a run myself, and you all know how it went after that. :P

watched morimoto's SMB3 run, was amazed; went to archive.org for more speedruns and watched alexis neuhaus's SMW, wasn't amazed. looked for more until I was tired of archive.org's search utility and finally went to the url mentioned in a few of the runs, which was this place. then, hopeless addiction.

I came across a console Super Mario 64 16-star speed run on youtube and as I watched I thought to myself "I wonder if this person is using an emulator with save-states to make a perfect speed run. I wonder if that it even possible." I did some more searching on youtube and came across Spezzafer's Super Mario 64 run (and was blown away by it) which then led me to this site. Here I discovered that my idea of using save-states to make a (near) perfect speed run was possible and was already being done.

A friend of mine that now sleeps when watching a TAS showed me the SMB3 video when 2003 turned into 2004 and I started downloading all of the videos on bisqwit's site thinking that they were all absolutely perfect. All 4 videos at first. (probably gradius, smb3, hi no tori and that other japanese game video that just recently got obsoleted).

Jesus, this is a hard question. I know it started with the Morimoto SMB3 movie, but how exactly I went from seeing that clip to finding this site, I couldn't say. I suspect it was from a random link on a message board or perhaps an old video game news-type site. Whatever it was, it's been over three years now...

I saw SMB3 on about 5 different video sites, like, 5 years ago (if it was really that long). I knew it couldn't be real playing, but I had no idea what it really was, and no Google search could help me. Got [back] into SM64, and suddenly Spezzafer's SM64 TAS goes all across the net. There's a link to NESVideos on the page of that vid, so I come here...Browsed around completely uninterested because I couldn't find any N64 movies (really, I was ignorant), and the movies that did interest me were in emulator file format, which I didn't understand at all, so I left without even noticing it had a forum. Months (years?) later, saw some of FODA's SM64 vids on Google Video, and tried to find more of his vids. Thinking FODA was a company who made incredible movies like that (seriously, I thought it was an acronym), I Googled "FODA Mario", which brought me back to this , which had a link to TASVids (which I'd completely forgotten about) on it. I come back, and take a much greater interest. When I find out that FODA is making a 120 star TAS, I start browsing the forums, and follow FODA's TAS starting at about 1/6 of the way through. Eventually, a few months later, I feel like showing my support and giving some tips/suggestions, so I register. Etc, etc. Turns out I was right about the acronym, though (Fiber Optic Doppler Anemometry).

Don't know where you found the site either. After you got Famtasia, the next time you contacted (day after that) was to inform that the Rygar TAS works only on the European version. And the next day after that, you submitted Bionic Commando (it was your fourth attempt already). I commented that it doesn't look very optimal, but published it nevertheless.

Actually I think my story is somewhat similar to roberts'. I saw speezafer's 16-star TAS, came here, was not very interested in anything shown, and left. I came back a bit later (I think this actually was because the site popped up in my mind all of a sudden, and I decided to check it out once more). I was disappointed that I couldn't vote for any runs, so I registered and started posting. I quickly became interested in TASing myself, and yeah.
