Here's the idea: NesVideoAgent gets a massive database of ROMs, and when a new video is submitted NesVideoAgent automatically creates an AVI and uploads it to Google Video with the text "Hi! I'm a robot! I uploaded this tool-assisted speedrun automatically! The submission text is:" If NVA does not have the right ROM, Bisqwit gives it the necessary ROM. I know many people detest looking for ROMs to watch a video, so...

If you write an avi capture/encoding program I'm sure bisqwit will be happy to include it.

I still think outputting Wiki updates in the IRC channel would be a better idea ¬_¬

I am under the assumption that different games require different settings, depending on motion, vibrant colours, platform etc. It would be a nice idea if someone made a complete collection of useful settings for every single game though. Also, making one purely for a submission may be a precious waste of resources if it is immediately apparent that the said submission is lacking of quality.
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs

Besides the quality being horrible, it would open a great tool for a DoS attack.

Well maybe with a delay in the encoding, even if the quality is horrible, the only purpose of automatic encoding is to make viewer be able to watch the movie without an emulator. I think it could be an alternative, otherwise, it could be done manually, but if every submission had a low quality video on youtube or google video to be able to watch it before it's published, it would be nice. I also second the idea of submitting the changes made in the wiki.

no it wouldn't. Absolutely not. Publishing low quality videos of submissions that are potentially reject-worthy is bad advertising.

a flash player, including the appropriate emulator + rom + movie would be a lot more feasible. it'd really help for submissions especially, since by definition there is no .avi for them.

yeah, except that including the rom inside the flash is a copyright violation. If distributing roms was allowed, we wouldn't have this problem in the first place. Apart from that, who is daring enough to convert ~20K lines of c or c++ source code to Flash while maintaining full compatibility? Why don't you just install the real emulator and use that?

hum well there's a lot of people that can't get some emulator to work, along that, with should I care about emulator, I just want to see a movie to be able to vote, not play games. If the bandwidth wasn't a problem, it would be possible to make low quality movie, then stream them in a flash player. That way, people can't get the movie, and it stays in the submission.
