In case you've been living under a rock for the past two weeks, Blizzard has been slowly building hype for their next big release. Using an intro splash screen on their site, they've been building up to their next officially planned game by playing off of their great track record of original PC releases. Today/tonight, at a Korean Starcraft tournament, Blizzard finally announced that Starcraft 2 is officially on its way to release, though no date has been set as of yet. Along with this, they aired their teaser trailer for the game, which doesn't look too shabby. Starcraft fans can rejoice. While I'd have rather seen Diablo 3 hit the shelves, encountering the Xel'naga is more than enough to satiate my Blizzard needs. This thread is officially about anticipating SC2/bitching about the lack of D3 updates (they haven't even restarted the D2:LoD ladder in forever million years).

And here is in-game footage http://youtube.com/watch?v=afxJW53c39o although right now it kinda just looks like a better graphical version of the original starcraft. also, here is an alternate link to the CGI video since it wasn't working for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK4JWwaAe7w&watch_response

http://www.starcraft2.com/ Has a high quality (at least compared to the youtube one) trailer in english and some gameplay footage/artwork/features. Even though I'm not a big starcraft fan (go diablo), I can tell that this looks promising.

Although I would like to get excited, something tells me the game won't be released until at least 3 years from now, probably more. :/ I watched the hi-rez teaser. I didn't know marines were made like that.... or maybe that was a special super marine of some kind..? Oh well, cool I guess.

I've heard it's near-finished because the development started around the same time as Ghost.

The in game footage that Yautja linked to is actual in game footage. Obviously it was tweaked a bit (rotating vantage, scripts for the GG), but it's definitely not CGI. That being said, the game is obviously somewhat completed. I'm guessing that it will probably come out just in time for Christmas, ideally. e: Oh yeah, there is apparently a lot of information out there already!

In-game footage of the leaddesigner actually playing the game: Part 1: http://youtube.com/watch?v=i29BOYwzfrs Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brNiCWQtU_s Since it's already playable, so it shouldn't take as much as 3 years. Blizzard has a reputation for never releasing anything they aren't very satisfied with though, so... it could very well take more than a year.

I hope they don't get too side tracked by making it look awesome. The most important thing is game play.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

I'm somewhat disappointed. D3 would have been a big new game, SC2 look like a small improvement to WC3 engines.

Major dif from warcraft and starcraft is 200 units vs 80 units and an upkeep even if it is the same engine(although it may or may not be). Doesn't seem that graphics would be a high priority in strategy games(i.e. civilization). More or less i think the big hype that will be behind this game is the new units, additional storyline, revival of online starcraft games that aren't 9/10 koreans, and of course lots of different strategy due to the new units.

IMO SC was always better than WCIII. If only SC had a automated matchmaking laddering system I would have never even bought WC. I am assuming SC2 will have a similar matchmaking system to WC and that is what makes me most excited.

Something strange is afoot with blizzard. Note the name of the lead designer of the SC2 project.... Dustin Browder The man to blame for RA2, and the man we can thank for C&C generals. Seems like a strange choice on blizzards part.

maybe he deliberately sabotaged those projects to make starcraft look better by comparison? ;)

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Also, a quick search on google for "RA2" shows the first link is "Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 for PC" on Gamespot. Google is your friend, my friend.

http://www.starcraft2.com/features/protoss/index.xml?tab=phoenix
phoenix is a swift and deadly spacecraft that is rapidly replacing the older scouts and corsairs
I hope this doesn't mean no corsairs. Disruption Web is SOOOOOO useful. Unless the phoenix also gets it, then I've got no beef.

Corsaiers were awsome. Possably my favorite unit next to firebats. Speaking of which, I will be pissed if they get rid of stim packs. That was an awsome upgrade.
