Is there a way, on any current emulator, of continuing an old recording without watching the old recording all the way? I am particularly interested in SNES games... is it possible on the rerecording SNES9X? any version of ZSNES? I am currently under the impression that in order to rerecord on any of these, one has to watch the old movie all the way through until the point where you wish to continue the recording, then savestate and loadstate. This would obviously poses a serious slowdown for games that take more than a few minutes! Am I completely misunderstanding the process?

If you have previously saved states, you can use though. Also, you can speed the game up by pressing shift+plus, and speed it down with shift+minus. If you don't have a savestate, it is impossible. Otherwise, the emulator won't know where you are. It has to evaluate each keypress in the movie file to remake the state. If that last bit was confusing, just ignore it. It's not important. Just know that you can load a save state from a previous play, and you can speed up the emu.

If you're unlucky enough to have alll your savestates after a point that you want to edit, I'm afraid you have to watch through the whole movie. I weep with you. However, if you simply add in a savestate when you need to stop recording, then the next time that you hit 'Movie Play', you can load your state and resume recording immediately.

Heh, I didn't know that. But a faster way to go through the movie if you do have to is to go to Options --> Settings --> Skip Rendering 59, Tab Toggles Turbo. Then you just have to hit tab and wait for it to catch up. Just be ready once it does. I speak from experience when I say it's annoying to forget to hit tab again.

It still takes a long time to get to wherever you're trying to catch up to if your movie is over 25 minutes. I speak from experience. It would be great if snes9x devs could create a 'skip to frame # in movie' option, because then you could do a lot of precise actions along with avoiding the hassle that is rewatching.

Like I said, unless you have a savestate there, it is impossible to do.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies. I'm glad to hear that I can restore state... now, does this work in ZSNES as well, or just SNES9X? Does the latest version of ZSNES still have buggy compression, as I've seen discussed in some of the threads on this board from a couple months ago, or has that been fixed? I've always preferred ZSNES as an emulator, and if I were to try doing a speedrun I'd probably be most comfortable with ZSNES.

ZSNES does not support rerecording at the moment. You should probably look in this site's FAQ. All your questions have been answere there....
