Are any of the unintended shortcuts documented anywhere? I never knew of any for this game.

Everything looks great. Any reason why you waited so long for that last boos in the second boss race?

Your run looks very entertaining to me and your fast progress is insane. Not perfect driving but better than anyone could do on real console for sure. For now the fastest WRs can be still found at http://www.cyberscore.net/game-dk-racing.php because http://dkr64.com/ is a relative new site and doesn't include Mitani's car WRs. As far as I know there are no unintended shortcuts for this game, the dinosaur boss glitch seems like a rumour to me. I haven't tried it yet, though.

I don't trust cyberscores, they think insane stuff is legitly gotten when they get a picture and they can't even tell it's doctored and know nothing about the games afaik

Some of that may be true, but there is no doubt that this 0xwas person is for real. He's amazing! I've seen a vid of his, he's not a cheater, he's for real.

So are all the WRs of Yasutaka Mitani, he has video proof of every single record he got. The DKR WRs over at cyberscore are correct, but of course I agree with you that cyberscore sucks ;) .

Two things: 1. David Wonn (Shortcut/game glitch guru) told me he was aware of atleast a couple unintended SC's 2. I personally experienced the dinosaur glitch and I appear to not be the only one... Of course, it's always possible that in order for it to occur you have to lose to the boss a bunch of times or something (I recall having trouble at first...). Please note though, I actually was a pretty good DKR player back in the day. I opened TT and beat all of the times at the end of the credits without any of this A-button tapping business. I considered that a decent accomplishement at the time (though I wasn't involved with any competetive community).

yes, as with most racing games uphills slow you down. taking the uphill shortcut is a very steep hill, and the boost strip from the first race is not there, so it's better to save up two boosts for such a climb. will get to watching tonight, but of course I know I will like it. edit: I want a hovercraft like that for when I go sledding :P is the sidewinding faster? the CPU fighting in the icy room was real fast! some parts looked a teensy sloppy (explaining why it was done so fast), but nothing to redo over. Overall, it's looking way tighter than your first attempts, so this is a keeper. keep up the good work!

Agreed, I finally got a working ROM and there are some things that are fairly unexplainable to me, like why the prioritizing of bananas in some races but going for the silver coins first in others? And some minor route alterations when I feel the same route should be taken every lap assuming it is optimal. Also I suppose the sidewinding makes the hovercraft speed go a teensy bit over 60. Does the rapid-A technique accelerate hovercrafts even more? Also for the first few races (I know you're probably not going to redo at this point), if I recall correctly doesn't using the shield increase your speed a teensy bit? Other than that, you make this game look so easy. This game gave me nightmares (the good kind) when I was little. =) Keep it up!

I finished the snow world trophy race and Taj's hover challenge. The trophy races are essentially the same but again the mini map is constantly displayed. I also redid the end of the second walrus race. Link.

The sidewinding which I call snaking is slightly faster than traveling in a straight line. Tapping A only works in the car. The mistakes from the run mainly arise from not switching saveslots so it is sometimes too late to go back and fix only minor errors. I don't go into the silver coin races with any planned route so I may collect things out of order. Coins are usually not out of the way so it seldom matters anyway.

I just heard from Mitani that you can tap A in hover and plane, but only after reaching top speed, and you aren't supposed to tap as fast..I'm not sure how to do it, because I tried and failed..maybe you should talk to them? I'm not suggesting you redo the whole thing.

You need to tap A in hover in a certain rythm, not as fast as you can. Hard to explain, just test it yourself. In plane it's just worth sometimes when you reach your normal top speed to tap A for a second or two, since constant boosting and barrel rolling is used throughout the run I think this won't be needed for plane. That A taping works in every vehicle was known for pretty long. About 2 years ago Mitani invented the snaking technique for Hover and I found the barrel rolling tequnique while realesing A technique. I agree that not every lap looks identical, but if xenos does every lap perfect he would be still somewhere in Dino Domain (see current Mario Kart 64 TAS).

I noticed that you get slowed down each time you jump over the lake in Fossil Canyon. Check out this vid and see if you're able to copy his strat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sh9H5UWqek Also I think your jump in Jungle Falls looks unoptimized, though I think I already told you that. Try to hit the opposite side of the lake closer to the wall on the right, and aim farther right during the jump, in order to go in a straighter line to the next zipper.

He probably won't be able to. In that video, the guy used T.T. and had 19 bananas. That's probably why he was able to get as good a jump as he got. There's no way he can do that kind of jump with that small amount of bananas he had (8, I think?)

After 10 bananas you don't gain any more speed.

Tee Hee, you can hear him rapidly pressing the A button in the background, that's kinda funny. redid the 2nd Walrus means I need to go and make a new savestate :-/

and that's exactly why I think authors should also provide savestates

That's why I think you need a video if you want more than a couple people to see it.

I tried the fossil canyon trick but to no avail. Banjo is too slow to make it. I find the best way to do the trick in the trophy race though. As for the jungle falls jump, I tried many ways to do it and that seemed to be the fastest. I have redone Taj's hover challenge with the A tapping trick to save a few seconds. I also did the first four tracks of the water world and the boss. Run. Also, here is a savestate at the start of boss 2-2. State. I think a video would take too long to encode although I am no expert in this field.

sleep deprivation = eyes can play tricks on you. I'll have to watch later, but I could have sworn a dabble of sloppiness, especially in bumping into a lot of things. But overall pretty good.

Do you need to go back and forth so much when you snake in the hovercraft? Can't you alternate between left and right each frame (to go in a straighter line)? Edit: At ~15.80 in Walrus Cove, you messed up and went very wide. Do a shorter left facing slide, and then do a right facing slide to get pushed to the left and avoid the wall. Edit: Your Treasure Caves is very unoptomized. It's much worse than my non-TAS run. Check out my video: http://wrvids.com/Diddy%20Kong%20Racing/Michael%20Fried-autofire(mupen64)/tc-car-4063-Fried.mov Edit: Btw does anyone have a save state with TT unlocked? I wanna play some DKR time trials (non-TAS), but I don't wanna have to spend so much time unlocking TT.

Are you referring to the wall boosting? I use walls to change direction and give a small amount of speed

It's not faster to do that.

Here is a site with a .eep file of DKR with TT. I have now done up to the trophy challenge. Run / State
