Is Ceres Station located somewhere in the same map as the rest of the game? Is it possible to glitch outside of a room, wraparound the map, and get into Ceres Station from somewhere on the planet, or vice versa?

No. Every possible method of glitching won't work without necessary items, and I believe the space/time beam users couldn't manage to glitch out of Ceres. That's more of a question to them, though. I believe people like Kejardon and the Japanese Super Metroid community have tested such things extensively.

For the purposes of a TAS, one would only be interested in glitching from Ceres to the planet, but I'm sure it would take longer than it would to just play it out. The idea of glitching from the planet back into Ceres Station is just my curiousity. I just think it would be cool.

The thing is, to glitch through something, you have to get one of the game-breaking items. There is none at that point, hence no possibility to glitch out. That's why I pointed out the space/time beam.

Apparently, catnap222 has already tried to make that spark in his set of shortcharge SMVs. I've just tested it thoroughly and come to an unsatisfying conclusion: sparking at the height of 638 pixels makes you hit the first platform, sparking at 639 makes you stop at the second. It would've been faster, if not for that platform. (Needless to say, memory watch is invaluable at times like this.)

Memory watch. Unzip this archive into your snes9x folder, it should be self-explanatory. Catnap's smvs are mirrored here.

thank you very match moozooh :) btw i tried to enter tourian faster with that secretworld xray stuff but somehow it does not work like in the other vids/tests ive done any explantation? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4137/O_o.smv i think if it works it can be a bit faster to join tourian while the eyes pop out of the statues edit: saw the set, some of them are really ... crazy useless i guess ;) but some of them are pretty funny for a 100% run i guess ^^

Did you try it at 638.5 pixels? :)

The game happily ignores subpixels when it comes to checking a collision. Actually, it wouldn't help, anyway, since the height of about ~636 is needed to clear the second platform. Or even less.

That's a neat coincidence; I happily ignore subpixels too! (I wish)

Sorry for the double post. I think I may have found a little time saver for anyone who fights phantoon after collecting the speedbooster. The only downside is that collecting phantoon's refills may not be as easy.movie here

About a week too late for JXQ to implement. :D Could have saved 20—30-ish frames.

As soon as I read just this line, it clicked in my mind what you had done and I wanted to punch myself in the face. Although this is a small timesaver, it definitely looks much cooler.

I found this strange: You can hear a door opening sound effect, but the door (and no others in the room) open. Link

turn of the wavebeam ;D? its the opening sound from the other side of the door, i found a plenty much doors like this years ago :)! the best example is two rooms before the grapple beam its a door connecting nothing together, and this may explain the sound ;) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4170/uselessdoor.smv

Ha, this is really cool! The reason you hear the sound in JXQ's one but don't see the door opening is because he opens it from behind. The room just after the door transition leading to Plasma is connected with the previous room. If you would remove that door you could simply walk into the next room without transitions. Though this next room is incomplete, so when you enter the door you get into a diffrent room which looks identical to the fake one. You can see this all through SMILE for example. Evilchens example is exactly the same case, but as you see he can just walk over the top of that room to see the back door being open. JXQ: From your "weird door.smv", did I get it right that you are at this place in your 100% v2 run already? 0_0 If thats the case, then you are once again a true TAS machine!

Some more ideas I have been tinkering with, I don't know if either one is faster than what is in JXQ's run. Something in late crateria Something in the norfair escape route

Haha, excellent stuff, Hero. I especially like that smooth mockball in blue Brinstar.

Thank you moozooh :) Here is a new technique that I developed for the huge lava filling room in lower norfair. I am not sure if it is faster than JXQ's technique, but I know that it is very very close and may be a few frames quicker. This isn't optimized at all.click away

These new tricks are so good. It seemed longer than JXQ's, though. Dunno how much more optimization you have to go on that. JXQ's is like ~8-~9 seconds long and that smv is ~9-~10
