I haven't advanced in the run yet (to addicted with the GBA version :P), but I heard about a couple of strats on GameFAQ's forum that may work faster...: First of all, I heard that if you kill a transformation of Archeoavis with Monk's counter, then the battle will automatically ends... Also, the 2nd transformation of Twin Tania is vulnerable to Lv 5 Doom, so I don't have to pick Break. Even with the lag of the Blue Magic, it might be faster, though I also have to buy the Jikuu magic Old & if IIRC both magic are bought on the same town :(

I've watched the video a few times now and am taking notes, and I'm playing the GBA version and trying to "recreate" as much stuff as possible. There are some things I'm not sure on, though, but I'm still buried in schoolwork, so it'll have to wait.

Well, even though I've played this game tons of times, I never read all the dialogues & didn't knew what was the deal with the 4 crystals at the great tree. Now that I played the GBA version, I took the time to read since I couldn't use fast forward XD I always do the same with any game, I just don't like reading... I also will be busy with school in the next 2 weeks, so I won't progress much by then. I have final exams :(

Does the Pyramid skipping bug save any time? I've never gotten that far through the game in the SNES or PSX versions and it doesn't work in the GBA version. Melissa

Nope, it doesn't. It looks cool, but it takes a few seconds more (well, I didn't measured, but I'm sure it's slower) than if you play normally. Also, since I won't go at all to Mirage Town to buy stuff, it's completly useless to perform this bug. I think I did performed it on my patched run (check the link on my sig)...

I haven't had enough time to work in the run lately, but I'm sure I will have some time starting next week. From the little I advanced, I had to redo it because I saw a way to avoid losing time, so I'm still at Bal Castle getting the ABP's... :(

Can someone remind me on when does the Blue Magic DarkShock & Jikuu Magic Old connected? I was calculating my levels & I'll be at 11 after the battle with the Magic Drgn & kind of remembered that I only had like 1% of connecting a Magic when I was at 12 to either Halicarnas or Exdeath... I'm outside Kelb, so I can buy Holy Waters to mix the Samson Powers. An alternative could be stealing a Dragon Fang from the Great Dragon at the Void (if I meet him) or kill a random enemy that would give me enough Exp to level up... Does Kelb city sells the Holy Water? If not, maybe I should fight & win some levels...

I would like to, but I don't know this game well, but just to let you know, that I'm following your progress with interest :)

Black Shock is 1/2 level to target L2 Old inflicts Aging status, even if the target's immune, to even-level targets Aging status continuously drains level, so L5 Death can, even if the target's immune, kill to 5-multiple-level targets All three spells are Blue. The Jikuu spell Old can be used instead of L2 Old, but it'd need to be manipulated to make sure it works. (its hit formula is based on the difference between the caster's level and the target's so Black Shock might help).

So, only the Jikku Magic has problems with the levels? Then there's no problem with Hali, I only need 1 Time Mage & 1 Blue Mage, I could set another one. But to be sure, I'll try this before continuing...

The Old spell has the following equation: Hit% = 90 + caster level - target's level Evade% = target's MEvade Chance to hit = Hit% * (1 - Evade%) L2 Old is an autohit which bypasses immunity so levels don't matter (as long as the target's level is even).

Ok, I haven't had time to work on this run, but that doesn't mean that I've given up. I need to check which jobs should I change & then I'll continue. Currently, I defeated the Hiryuu Plant...: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4656/Final%20Fantasy%20V%20%28J%29.smv Oh btw, I have vacations in mid April, so I hope to finish the run before May...

Really good that you are resuming this run, I had almost forgotten about this. When this thread popped into the beginning of the subforum, I, as pessimistic as always, though directly that someone's just asking for an update. I guess I'll watch your WIP when I must return to the Finnish Defence Forces, they use Windows there - I don't. Anyway, looking forward to this.

Good to hear you're so close! I've been completely out of the loop because of a broken laptop that took over a month to fix. I'm finally finishing school within two weeks and look forward to the completed run.

Thanks univbee, currently I didn't had chance to advance, but I already decided which jobs to use from Hyryuu's Village through most likely the end of world 2. I'll check if I equipped everything I wanted (including the bone mail & dance dagger), then I progress. (Probably will need to check the Algorithm FAQ & the patched run, but it won't take much time...)

Things didn't went as planned. Seems that the monsters at Atomos' Tower are faster than Blue Mage & Jikuu Mage, so I'll probably need to change Galuf into a Thief. I could also try killing someone in the process of climbing the tower, so that Atomos waist his attacks dragging that person. However, I checked & he can pass his turn, but he attacks twice in a row & he's pretty fast, so maybe having a thief is better. Lets see how it comes...

I personally find amazing that you were able to reach that point of the game so quickly! Good luck for the tower, and please keep us informed, I can't wait to know how you'll get through it!

Well, seems that I'll have to redo a part (after finishing the Hiryuu Valley). I'll set Galuf as Thief, Butz & Lenna as Blue Mage w/ Mix & Faris as Time Mage w/ Dash. Hopefully, most of that was text, so it won't be hard to do it again. (Though I'll have to re-organize again the items :( ) I plan to keep this setup until Exdeath's Castle, on where I'll change Krile to Elementalist... (To cross the lava, I'm sure it's faster)

*bump* Hi, samurai goroh! Are you still working with this run? I'd really like to see this finished after so many people has been giving more or less for it (Mostly you and Boco). Plus, if there ever is going to be a TAS of the GBA version, it would be nice to compare this to it ;). EDIT: For a little inspiration, here's the updated subtitles I have been making for the ffvwip-world1end.avi. I haven't been working with it for quite some time, but if you are continuing this run, I could finish the subtitles.
Which run should I encode next? :)

I will continue, is just that I had the final exams & projects, so I wasn't able to continue. Right now I can't install the sound driver on my computer, so I don't want to make the movie because I'm afraid it can desynch, though I'd played some movies & it was fine... *Goes to check the subtitles now :)

You need good-enough player for that, which I'm afraid Windows Media Player isn't. I'd suggest something like BSPlayer or VLC Player.
