Would that even be possible? Not that it would be in any way entertaining, but still.

You couldn't do any key exits. And it would be way too slow to be worth watching.

Yeah it would be like watching mario do a water level over and over. That's how slow movement is without holding Y, if I recall correctly. I can think of more fun things to watch than water levels.

We talked about it in IRC. The only time Y would be used is to pick up keys and use Yoshi to get a blue shell in one of the Star Worlds. For the key thing, hopping to maintain walk speed or kicking the item ahead the second you pick it up would maintain some semblance of it being a walkathon.

Blah, I forgot that as another exception.

Ozmodiar, Hit us up with a quick wip of the first few levels or so and see what you/everyone thinks.

I took the liberty of making this awesome WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3322/Walkathon%20WIP.smv Walking speed maxes out at 21, whereas running speed maxes out at 49. Theres a big difference between walking and running. The chuck gave me a boost up to 32, but most levels would look like the beginning of YI2, with 21 speed hop glitch for the whole level. Pretty exciting, huh?

Tried to come up with a joke for this but nothing is funny enough. Anyway awesome wip. The chuck bounce took this concept to the next level!

I actually found that pretty amusing. Assuming that there will be something to bounce/slide off of in some levels, the walkrun might not break 20 minutes. I'd say someone should go for it, just to say that they did. Skip trying all exits, though.

Wow. I think I'd rather watch an N64 run before a SMW walk-through. Maybe.

YI3 is done. This level had a few close calls with the moving yellow blocks. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3323/thegreginator%20walkathon%20yi3.smv Does anyone actually want to see this completed? Because I wouldnt mind doing it, I could churn it out in about a weekend. If anyone seriously wants to see this, say so and I'll start over to redo YI2 since I wasnt trying for entertainment or corner boosts the first time. Also, the opening menu isnt optimized.

I absolutely want to see this done. Also, we should amend the rules so that Y can be pressed at any time as long as it doesn't affect speed (except while swimming).

Ok I think I will actually do this. I'll be restarting from the beginning and grabbing Yoshi at YI2 for some corner boosts. Also, this is a TAS in which Mario "does not run", not a TAS in which Mario "does not press y/x." Running is defined as pressing x/y+forward while on the ground. This means I can do things such as swallow enemies with Yoshi and swim while holding items since these dont change your ground speed. Saying that Mario never "runs" also rationalizes picking up keys and mechakoopas, since you can do these things without breaking the rules (you dont have to be on the ground or be pressing forward to grab a key/mechakoopa). This makes the rules more clear and eliminates any exceptions. EDIT: Quick change in the rules. Pressing a direction+x/y is never allowed, even when in the air, because that gets you up to 37 speed.

As long as you're doing it, I'm one happy shrew.

Bah Humbug! you don't give N64 TASes enough credit methinks. I know, I read your reasons in the 2D OoT for disliking N64 TASes, but still, I feel so miffed now. this'd probably be more interesting that the concept demo walkrun of SMB. Not something I'd add to all time favorite movies, but still a good chuckle.

hahahaha. I love these mario speedwalks with arbitrary rules. the mario64 crawlathon used to be "must hold z" but then they realized backflipping and picking stuff up allowed for faster movement, so it became "must crawl as much as possible". Still, I'm easily entertained so I'd love to see this finished. Oh, and I loved the green shell stunt in yi3.

I wish I can see the wip thegreginator posted. Micro storage isn't working for some reason now. EDIT: It's working again.

Doesn't matter, since he redid it again anyways.

Yeah, It's working now. Wow I liked the 3-up in the beginning of YI2 :p. IMO, this is very boring and I held TAB throughout most of YI2 and YI3. EDIT: I think a 37 speed run would be more entertaining, I'll try making a wip and see how it comes out.
