I only downloaded the rom once and played it for about maybe an hour. I don't know how much speed would factor into a shooter like that, seems about as linear as space harrier... but MAN is the game gorgeous at times. I would LOVE to see the whole thing through, get to the boss with the gravity abilities and you'll see what I mean.

The person that showed interest in this game is already doing a similar one currently.

It can't be speedrun, but it CAN look really cool/flashy! I'm almost done with the first level, so I'll post a WIP of it soon. ^^ gravity abilities..? You mean like the fireballs, the ice storms, etc?

Hmmm, i was reading gamefaqs, and this sounds cool:

Unlock the INSANE Turbo Mode Beat the game on Hard Mode in order to unlock the Game Speed option. You can set it to ''Turbo'', in which case the game will move twice as fast as normal!
But then you need to run through the game to get a legit SRAM, which may be tedious...

Not too tedious... I read in a FAQ that the game can be beaten quickly, and a second version twice as fast would be nice, especially if the game is as action packed as some have suggested.

First level is almost done. So far, the only aim is 100% kills with a combination of the sword/gun. I wanted to aim for high score, but that means I'd have to painstakingly calculate every single hit and that might not make it as diverse/interesting looking as it could be. Anyone want to suggest or see anything done in this run in particular?

I took a liitle looksie at the first level, seems pretty cool. I'd stick with 100% kills, that seems to work fine. I noticed there were points for some kills I made, but I didn't know what caused it and yeah it looks a little confusing. Any chance for a .m64? Also, what does this mean for your Starfox run?

the scoring system is actually not as painstaking as it first seems. each hit increases your score by 200, and it works combo wise in that the first kill gives you -1, the second kills gets you +0, the third +1, the fourth +2, the fifth +3, and so on. after I was killing my hundreth butterfly thing, I was getting +150+ hit per kill, in addition to the 200 from each kill. some monsters/bosses that can be hit many times (like those dragon things) can have multiple bonuses leached from them. so basically, high score should be 100% kills, but also shooting/cutting other things that increase your score like trees, stumps, objects in city levels, etc. and shooting enemies that give multiple score hits. However, the crosshair does not move incredibly fast, and it can be very hard to hit every single monster, especially on hard mode. in real time playing around, with turbo fire on, I still had a hard time hitting everything. hard mode monster density is very high in the first level. Also, during the bosses there's monsters flying around in the background, which makes it even more difficult. what is helpful though is that some trees and other obstacles that get in your way can be automatically cut down with your sword, which will net you points. and cutscenes are skippable, big TAS bonus there because the cutscenes suck something awful. Basically, the biggest part of a run like this is magically hitting every monster, and getting all bonus hits off of everything. Sin and Punishment hard mode test run the first 20 kills were tool assisted. the rest of the level was done at 80% speed and turbo fire. clearly shitloads of enemies everywhere. my suspicion is those dragons reappear until all their segments are destroyed, which definetly helps

A few points to address and some things I noticed: The scoring system also allows a change from lock-on to manual aiming. I wanted to test out if you could "glitch" lock-on aiming to quickly point to something else and then switch back to manual to fire. Not sure if that can be done. Bosses have minions, but if left alone they will go off stage, and the same applies to the boss. If you do not kill it in a certain period of time, it can fly off. The sword you mention is also capable of deflecting projectiles that can be reflected/hit back to the enemies for extra points/damage. How much, I do not know. Good luck to anyone who tries this project. It isn't very hard, but to make it look good is another thing.

lock on means that when you target an enemy, the crosshair follows that enemy. it also deals less damage. I do not believe that it can be used to highlight monsters faster, because it works more like once the crosshair is over the monster, lock-on makes the cursor follow that enemy, not move quickly towards a different enemy. Mid-way bosses do fly off if you don't kill them fast enough, which is aggravating because there are minions that give points flying around to distract you. The final boss does stay around until you kill it though. reflecting the projectiles deals more damage than normal shots, but is very difficult to aim, since it reflects it directly back the same direction and the bosses like to move out of the way. it does make taking damage happen not at all in the 1st level; my life was 100% because all projectiles were reflected, even on hard mode. the 2nd level was a nightmare at one mid-way boss however. I actually would say it is hard in making sure you hit as many enemies as possible, and yes making it look good is tough too. but damn it does look beautiful. for reasons I cannot explain, this game reminds me so much of arcade railed shooter games that you find at the cinemas.

Guess I'll try it out. about 3/4 done. Everything is killed/destroyed, and I went for style. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3959/TSUMI%20TO%20BATSU%20%28J%29.m64 Input/feedback is greatly appreciated. If anyone can tell me how to make a decent looking AVI and a place to upload it, I'll convert it to AVI and stuffs =D

Don't bother replacing. .m64 + AVI is fine as it is. I could probably try to encode something real quick, but it would be nowhere as good as something that DeHackEd could produce. I'll take a look at it tonight. I saw the 1 minute WIP and can't wait to see 3/4 of it finished. the first time the dragon appears would be a good time to start hitting off his segments. once the dragons are flying around in full swing, there's always at least two on the screen, which makes keeping track of which ones to hit very difficult, so you'd make it much easier on yourself if when the first dragon appears about 5-10 seconds before your wip ends that you start shooting it. there wasn't much else you were doing at the time, and for this game anything that you shoot in the present that will not show p in the future is a great help. Edit: note to self: do not type fast when buzzed. or even post at all if slightly inebriated.

Use the "start avi capture" function and then compress it with divx or xvid in virtualdub, which gives mediocre quality but fast and ideal for WIPs.

I like the mime act;) And now for a post with a little most substance. I liked it for the most part, especially 2/3 of the way through with the three quarter crescent shape, however... it's a pretty game, but I hope that's not all there is to the game. Running through a wheat field for 40 minutes would get dull damn quick.

L4yer's post was a joke. read the subject of the post. In the future I actually might convert the AVI's to .wmv format, because I actually came up with something much cleaner and sharper looking with it, and a much smaller file size. It's not 40 minutes of running through a wheat field (interestingly, it doesn't even happen, it's only the main character dreaming.) there is plenty more different levels in different environments in the rest of the game. To quote a famous phrase, 'stay tuned' and you'll see just how gorgeous and varied the game is.

Ha ha sorry L4yer, I knew it sounded sarcastic, but I never read those subject postings for some reason. Smaller text/ me having bad vision probably. And I'm glad there's more to the game than that, I'll look for it. And if you would upload the .M64 file too, that'd be great for speed of downloading.
