Nach: Why should people care? It's a Game Boy, it's meant to be played with. It's not meant to be dissambled and studied. They don't care, I don't care, but YOU care. And we don't care that you care. :P
Nach, regardless of official terms, I still say that the purpose of a forum is to convey ideas to each other. Your persistence on using a widely non-understood acronym is not helping this purpose.
It seems you are more concerned with being "right" than communicating effectively.
And DMG isn't an acronym for Game Boy, it's an acronym for Dot Matrix Game. I don't see DMG and Game Boy as interchangeable simply because DMG is the product code of Game Boy, unless, as I stated earlier, you are working in a warehouse and shipping codes matter. This is not the case.

My question is this: which is better, precision of the acronyms in your message or communication of your message? I, like many others, have never heard of the official abbreviation for a Game Boy, and I'm fairly certain that if you contact Nintendo and use the acronym "GB" to stand for "Game Boy" that they will know you are talking about the popular handheld gaming platform.
Maybe implement a sandbox feature in the forums so that all Nach's DMGs are transparently and automatically converted into GBs for all other users except Nach...
But then again, when he wants to talk about damage in Pokémon, he will be found talking about Great Britain. So that's not good either.

I always use DMG in IRC, when someone asks, I post a link to that image I did above. I do not call them a bit of an idiot. You for some reasoned inferred from my rationale that I call these people a bit of an idiot when they ask.

They don't have to care. And quite frankly I don't care what the official acronym is. I do however care about being precise.

I try communicate technical terms in a precise manner. It is not my fault if the other person can't grasp the technicalities, subtleties, and context of the conversation at hand. If they have trouble they are welcome to question. I will continue doing my job.

I suggest you look at that picture I posted again.

I say you do it, if only for that side effect to actually happen.
Also, I hate you. That post made me laugh, and subsequently my stomach is now in pain.
Even if it might need some tweaking, I think it's a pretty good idea.
Perhaps each mention of DMG could be accompanied by his nice picture he posted earlier, as well as a link to a page shortly explaining what DMG means and why it's used. That page would of course mention the possibility of DMG meaning something else (damage, etc) in the context he used it in, so as to avoid any misunderstandings.
Can't see a lot of downsides here.
I wonder if you call Windows XP, Chicago...
Because Chicago is what's written all over in Windows XP. Take almost any inf file in c:\windows\inf for example.
It's what they internally called it. Chicago is the technically correct name.

Hey, look! The DMG text is practically unreadable unless you really zoom in!
I disagree
Also GameBoy is the one ™ed and the initials are capitalised and DMG just sounds like some code as apposed to an acronym
Also, all my GameBoy games are DMGed *laugh*

As a teacher precision of what I say is extremely important. I can't alter the subject to make it easier to understand. The subject is unchangeable. The most that can be done is elaboration and to answer questions.

I know what you're talking about as well, yet I don't approve of it. I'm sure if you call and and want to discuss the DMG with them, I'm sure they'll understand you too.

Wow. So basically, you are saying "I'll communicate in the way that is easiest for me, and if others are confused, it's not my fault for using a term that is uncommon, it's the other person's fault because they don't understand what I typed."

Do you know what an acronym is? "A word formed from the initial letters of a series of words." DMG is not an ACRONYM for Game Boy, because Game Boy doesn't even have a D in it.
And you're trying to say you don't treat these people like they are idiots?

As far as we can see, Nach is igniring arguments that he can't counter like if they did not exist. dirty tactics. Say somehing about Windows/Chicago and XKeeper's photos =)

I call it NT 5.1. However if you were to discuss Memphis, Cairo, or Longhorn with me, by all means go right ahead.
And BTW, Chicago is Windows 4.0 AKA Windows 95.

Windows XP was Whistler, Bisqwit.
And PJBoy, I mean, well... let's just say that in my lighting conditions and eyesight, without actually holding it up close, DMG is unreadable and GAME BOY (TM) is not.
It's as if you purposefully use obscure terms just to cause this type of confusion. Communication with you is impossible as a result
Hey, at least you're smarter than stupid ol' me! I don't even know what a Longhorn is LOLZ!!

No, I'll communicate in the way that I learned which I feel is the best for learning from. It is the other persons fault if they choose to instead not to learn.

Yes you are right, I'm sorry. I meant to say Abbreviation. See, this is what happens when one isn't precise.

Phil wins this round.
For the record, though, Great Britain is GBR, according the MedDRA, oAERS, and other medical corporations. That being said, GB and GBx is wide open to being known as the GameBoy series.
Also, Nach has yet to respond to what XKeeper posted on the first page: DMG is not Game Boy and Game Boy variant specific, and so to refer to GBx games as DMG is a misnomer.
SHVC? I use SFC, where does SHVC come from? (Edit: Oh, Super Home Video Computer. I see now it's written on all my SFC games, but SFC is already a TLA and so is SNS so I never really noticed or cared there was a different term.)
Anyway I use DMG for the Gameboy as well. It's written on every cart and product, and it's a three-letter acronym, which all system abbreviations are (or should be). GBX refers to games which can be played on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color (ie, non-Color-exclusive GBC games), SGB for Super Gameboy games, etc. Systems that don't have an easy 3-letter acronym use product codes, so Playstation becomes PSX, Gameboy becomes DMG, Gamecube becomes GCN. That's because I always use three-letter acronyms.
I never knew that epople didn't know DMG was Gameboy if they had any experience with buying, reading about, playing, etc those games, just like I don't know if people don't know what PSX is at a glance.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster.
I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.
That's a regular observation of any dispute involving Nach. Give up on that already; we all know that he will continue with "DMG" and stuff, and neglect "mebibytes" at the same time.
Also, Boco: I'd personally refrain from using PSX as an acronym for PlayStation, simply due to the controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(DVR); forum linking doesn't work at all) it can possibly spawn. This is the case when unambiguity is the way to go.

You have basically retyped what I've written, except with the perspective that you are here to enlighten the world of your correct views. The difference is that I see you as belittling others, where you see yourself as helping others. We can agree to disagree, but I hope you realize that this "teaching" you see yourself doing requires effective communication, a concept which you are completely ignoring - almost as much as the points brought up by others in this thread.
