This is the topic where everyone here gets a chance to award certain users or TAS's for silly reasons (e.g. Greatest Devotion to a Single Game by One User). Sarcasm is always welcome, but don't be too harsh. Here are some of mine: Video with lowest rerecords-per-frame ratio Chrono Trigger by hero of the day Despite the fact that this movie is almost four hours longs, somehow HOTD manages to use only 4,932 rerecords, a ratio of approximately one rerecord per 1,920 frames of playing time. This either displays a master ninja ability of perfection or a lazy run. I think those who’ve watched the run knows that it’s the former =P Greatest devotion to a single game by one user or a team of users FinalFighter, Bisqwit, Morimoto and AngerFist for Rockman 1 We should all applaud these guys for the work they've done on breaking the game that started the Mega Man series. Specific kudos go to FinalFighter; because of what he did he’s the only user to have ever gained the “Master Ninja” rank, though nitsuja might have that honour sometime soon =D Most thorough domination of one series by one user or a team of users Tie: nitsuja with the Sonic series, Bisqwit, AngerFist, Morimoto and FinalFighter with the NES Rockman series This was quite the toss-up. nitsuja obviously broke many of the most beloved Sonic games to the point of boredom and the foursome at the helm of the Mega Man games are geniuses. Though their work has been limited to the NES and SNES Rockman games – Bag of Magic Food has the Rockman World series covered – they still deserve attention for the glitches they have found. Honourable Mention: spezzafer with 3D and quasi-3D Mario games. Craziest TAS concept Mega Man X and X2 duel run There was no doubt in my mind about this one; this movie is one of the craziest I’ve ever seen in terms of complexity and replay value. The new Mega Man 3-4-5-6 quad run in production at the moment may surpass this soon, but in the meantime, this is it. Honourable Mentions: “Pacifist” Contra, Mario. Bros Air Hack Best juggling act in a TAS Super Demo World 120-exit run I could have picked any of the SMW runs for this honour, but I chose this run over the others simply because Mario juggles more items, faster with a greater complexity than the other runs. This truly must be seen to be believed. I think many of the rerecords in that movie went towards the juggling acts =P Honourable Mention: Super Mario World 90-exit run The Never-Give-Up Ultimate Achievement Award: Hardest Effort Towards One Run Tie: GuanoBowl's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time run and FODA's Super Mario 64 100% run How was I supposed to grade one of these over the other? Both of these runs had their huge share of problems. GuanoBowl, already under pressure to create one of the best TAS's in history, had to tame the Infernal TAS-Killing Beast, Mupen Desynch, while FODA had enough of a bad time with manipulating those ****ing boulders in Hazy Maze Cave. The latter took almost a year to make and was worth the wait, while the former was, while crazier and less optimized, still entertaining. These guys were bad enough dudes to make it through creating two of my favourite runs on the site. Honourable Mention: nitsuja's Sonic 3 & Knuckles run The WTF-ness Award: craziest and most unexpected glitch in a run Three-Way Tie: Skipping Ice Cap 2 in Sonic 3 & Knuckles This one completely knocked my socks off when I first saw it. Obviously I knew how glitched this run was, but never, NEVER did I imagine skipping an entire level. In the words of Sir VG, "Sonic Team called. They want their Ice Cap Zone returned." NB: I ranked the WTF-ness award based not on the craziness of the glitch, but how unexpected it is in the context of the rest of the run. Honourable Mentions: Castlevania:COTM summons warping; Super Mario 64 zipping-up-the-stairs-at-ninja-speed glitch; Sonic 1's zipping-through-the-wall glitch in Scrap Brain 1. I'll be adding more later and I encourage everyone else to come up with their own silly rewards :)

"Most thorough domination of one series by one user or a team of users " I would have givin this award to Phil Cote for his Double Dragon success on the NES. Also, Morimoto's name is not Miromoto.

My first attempt at award graphics, for the hell of it: From left to right: Greatest Devotion (sprite thanks to "Rapid the Hedgehog"), Craziest Concept (lol nudie run), Best Juggling Act, Never Give Up, and the WTFness Award ("WHEEEEEE!!!")

I'd consider nominating Legend of Zelda (1st quest) for "best planned" movie.

I'd say M.C. Kids is the cheesiest run in here. But for real, Sonic Advance 1 is the WTF!?-run for me.

I would at least give a honorable mention to Exim for his dedication to the Solstice TAS (no less than 9 revisions) and Randil for continuing the legacy. (IMO Solstice has somewhat of a historical value because it was one of the very first TASes ever made and published here.) I also agree with Bisqwit in nominating the LoZ TAS for most thoroughly worked (route) planning. I also nominate the LoZ TAS as the one having had most impact in the regular speedrunner community. A sign of this is that the LoZ video is currently the most downloaded one: Over 15 thousands downloads so far. (Nothing can beat Morimoto's original SMB3 video for overall impact, though. However, I would say the LoZ run was important because it didn't ride on the ignorance about tool-assistance, as the SMB3 video did, since TASes were already pretty known among speedrunners by the time of its publication.) Least appreciated video for the amount of work spent into making it: NES Kid Niki 2 by Randil. Under 10 minutes, almost 10000 rerecords, only 176 downloads (least downloaded currently published video). TAS with the longest submission novel: http://tasvideos.org/880S.html

I nominate FractalFusion's Monopoly 4 CPU Bankrupt and trazz's Golden Axe for the Total Humiliation of AI award :) Also, I would like to nominate Aqfaq for the Most Thoughtful Author award, for shortening the Dark Castle run to 1 minute...

I managed to skip most of the game, which is good because Dark Castle sucks.
Ahhh... how considerate :P EDIT:

I guess more accurately, you should say the least downloads to time published ratio. That would be much more accurate, since newly published movies can still be judged on the same criterion

I would strongly argue GuanoBowl should win that award over FODA for three reasons 1. Desyncs, SM64 never desyncs ever. 2. A lot of back tracking was required when a new strategy was required 3. FODA's was spread out over a year and not concentrated, I'm sure someone else with less outside commitments could have pruduced that within 3-4 months.

Haha, I am surprised AKA didn't support his fellow Mario64 author for this award... or maybe it's precisely because he knows the game so well that he feels otherwise :)

More award images! From left to right: Longest Submission Text, Least Appreciated, Most AI Humiliation (the ball gag is a nice touch, no?) and Most Thoughtful.

Yes, I have to agree with AKA. Unless you have experienced it first hand you can't possibly imagine just how infuriating and demoralising continuous desyncs are.

I have nothing of of particular value to add to this subject. But I would like to say that everything that The Kins does makes me smile on the inside.

I got an idea how to implement this. I would like to add the excellent icons The Kins has created, to the forum system, so that the award icon is displayed underneath the poster's name (hopefully in a manner that doesn't spam the forums too much), with a title (mouseover text) indicating the type of the award, and the image being a link to the actual movie for which the award was given. How does this sound?

The Kins, I love your images :) And the silliest movie award goes to... Acmlm's Monopoly! It's just so silly. And Bisqwit's idea is awesome.

Bisqwit, I'm not convinced doing anything with this except joking around for fun in this thread is a great idea. Making something "official" from some arbitrary silly categories where people probably won't always agree. Though I guess adding some polls to this forum might spice it up a bit, who knows. Edit: Not using polls would put this idea in a whole new level of stupid.

Ouch. Anyway, I don't think this is a good idea to implement in the forums, since the awards are random and arbitrary. Time better spent elsewhere, in my opinion.

Something like this would be pretty cool, but as it is this whole thing, as previously mentioned, has got some rather arbituary categories etc. One thing that WOULD be cool would be deciding some definite categories (Most creative manipulation, The Nijutsa Award for Most Awe-Inspiring Glitching etc.) and having some annual/half-annual awards. It'd just be a bit of fun, but it'd be interesting to see what'd come out on top.

After thinking about it, This idea is kind of a bad idea, since it is all a matter of opinion. Since the award will represent the forum and the site as a whole, it would be wrong if members disagreed. The bad part is, is that the matter of opinion usually comes from Players previous experience with the game, and how much they know it.

I think a TASing Oscar-equivalent annual ceremony would be in order. Such awards would be: Best movie of 2006 Best Author of 2006 Best contributions to NES/SNES/GB/GBA/N64 TASing. etc...

I'd say awards are fine, but keep it to topics in the awards forum, instead of pictures showing up at forum posts.
