I use TAS plugin, not N-Rage. I don't know why it closes out at Waddle Dee, Mupen runs Kirby very well, unless you have wrong ROM because I noticed other ROM versions run it very poorly.

There is no emulator that runs Kirby very well, as far as I'm concerned. It's frustrating to not be able to tell how much health you have, and what powers Kirby is carrying. According to GoodN64, there is only one version of the US ROM, and I'm using the same ROM you are. I'd be surprised if the problem was the input plugin. I'd use the TAS plugin if I knew where to get it from. I've never seen or heard of it before.

it's available in the Mupen64 discussion forum, right near the top. The only problem I've had running Kirby with my version/plugins is that in the 3rd world where you walk on a stream, at the part with the cart that you ride in every time you jump the color at the bottom of the screen gets messed up when you're in the air. but besides that, everything is running beautifully for me. (other versions crash/some enemies are transparent. but this is working out beyond fine for me.)

How much time do you gain/lose by fire-dashing through the shards as opposed to normally getting them? It seems like your little helper/retriever has to go some extra distance to fetch it for you.

it doesn't waste any time at all, once you touch the shard it's registered as gotten and the fadeout is time by how fast you get the shard, not on how long the fairy takes to reach you.

Hmm. Using the TAS plugin fixed it. I've never had an input plugin cause desynch in movies before (I usually leave the Adaptoid plugin on all the time because I like to use a real N64 controller). I wonder what that plugin is doing that the others don't do. Excellent first world. There was enough variety that the double flame didn't get old, but it might eventually if it's used in every single level. I would definitely watch this. I just wish I had a choice about the input plugin.

The problem isn't the input plugin or even the graphics plugin (so far). I just watched it with jabo and n-rage together and it played fine.

It desynced every time at the beginning of world 1-1 even with the exact same settings with raw data unchecked, etc etc. After deleting the whole mupen64 folder and re-setting/re-matching all of the settings without any other tweaks I got it to work. Good work so far.

Woop um hm got to the miniboss in 2-1 and sorta took a little break... finals are coming up, I might have 2-1 and maybe 2-2 finished by christmas vacation and then I have until late January off, and I should hopefully get a lot done. I notice that when I get around and TAS these levels that they go by fast, but since I'm working on a lot of runs and schoolwork's picking up I haven't found time yet. I'll finish this eventually though. update: officially put on hold for a very long time. Jet Force Gemini has become run #1, and boy is it going to take a very long time to do. If anyone else wants to take what I have and continue, be my guest. when done with JFG (hehehe LONG time from now) and my other projects I'll pick this up again. Despite being easy to make it just seems like not the best game to TAS.

I've never done a TAS before, but I was playing this game again recently and wanted to see a run of it. I've started doing a run, and so far have made it through the first level. I'd like to be the first to welcome you to TASvideos.org! I myself always enjoyed the game and its nice music and familiar Kirby elements. the slow speed did turn me off from running it though. I hope you've downloaded my WIP, as there's a few things in there (some techniques, solutions that are faster, etc.) that you could study from. Things like sliding before each room transition (the room transition cancels the slide pause, as does sliding off edges) and other time saving things, like getting the bomb+fire combo better, and getting the crystal in the water. This is a good first test run, especially for your first TAS attempt. (my first attempts were craptacular.) Good luck with this, I'll be sure to help out as much as I can/you need.

I'd either love to see this run made, or I'd like to do this run ^_^ I'm horrible with N64 TASing (I did a few test runs with Quest 64... not good), but since it's sidescrolling, it'd be a lot easier for me. Plus it's not an RPG so I can actively show things off! If need be, of course. I don't want to be swamped with projects (especially if people want to see KDVG done), so I'll wait on this.

I just remembered; in some cases it is faster to take damage. For instance in one level where you are king Dee Dee, and you use the fire enemy's breath to boost you upwards.

This game is very forgiving; like Mischief Makers, it uses only the D-Pad. This game unfortunately doesn't have much room to show off; most of the time you have to move right as fast as possible. There are some areas, like bosses and single rooms with enemy's to kill/objectives to accomplish, where you can show off, but for the most part it's run right, jump, and use Fire+Fire.

Basically the only way of fast movement is using the fire ability, which isn't very fun to watch for about 40 minutes. EDIT: alden beat me to it. :(
