I'm adding this to my many TASes I'd either like to do, or see someone else do. The graphics are better than the orginal PC version. (one would hope..) Also, the scrolling speed is fairly fast so it would look impressive seeing the Micro/Macro. You can even group Units to an extent. (I'm guessing you can in SC64..?) If I did this, I would pick the Nod campaign. Kain ftw! Edit: Also, it emulates perfect from what I can tell. (Yay!)

Starcraft too can scroll relle fast, micro/macro has many possibilities, and you can group units in a few different ways. It emulating perfectly is good to hear, but could be deceptive- Starcraft is perfect in game, but during some menus it runs into problems. Sounds like another great N64 strategy game, I'll have to look into it. I say go for it, if Starcraft works I'm gonna be swamped with 6 seperate campaigns to submit. A few things about what the TAS itself should look like: I noticed strategy games like this and Starcraft are begging for what I term "TAS menu playing". I've noticed that since many different options are chosen really fast, watching gameplay will be like watching a fast menu selected through. TASes are known for insanely fast menu navigation, and a strategy game like these two should be fast. Micro is a little tough since I'm guessing the analog stick controls the cursor, it is easy to overshoot units/destinations so Nitsuja's TAS plugin should be used. Macro is going to be doable much better than normal play, but still difficult to TAS. You will be able to set commands for certain units, then on the next frame scroll to another section. Plus keeping track of everything that's going on is gonna be hard. As I start starcraft and do some macro TASing, I'll pitch in for strategies on how to TAS this game.

I'm going to do a test run on the first 2 or so Nod missions. Mainly for me to get used to the game and to show what potential it has in a TAS.

Likewise, I'll try to get some testing for starcraft as well, and we can compare to see if there are any similarities in TASing these two games.

First Nod mission done. The path finding isn't perfect so I have to keep telling them to do stuff sometimes, or they get stuck, or delay some.

Just watched it, you've nailed the style. That's exactly how both this and starcraft should look. You came out with this test run pretty quick, how easy is it to make TASes like this? And was the analog stick hard to control?

It is fairly hard to control. I'm just using like 25% speed for this though. I haven't use the imput plugin controls yet. I just have the analog go as far as it can. If I do a real version after this, I'll probably use those tools.

Damn nice job OgreSlayer. That looked really good, this game has so much potential. I expect strategies to get quite complex as the stages go on, requiring quite a bit of planning. Good luck!

I'm going to redo mission 1. I got a nice analog controller to use now, so it'll be way easier than using the keyboard. Not like mission 1 is super long anyway.

Btw, my strategy for mission 2 is the following: 1. Move all units right away to the left outside the enemy base, killing everything in the way while the Contruction Yard vehicle is on the way. 2. Deploy the CY when it catches up to my units. 3. Sell my CY ASAP for a free engineer. 4. Slip my engineer in their base and take their Rax. 5. Pump out one Engineer from the Rax to take their CY. 6. Pump them Minigunners good. 7. Keep building more Raxes as $ permits. 8. Sell their CY when I need the $. 9. Win after I kill everything How's that sound?

That sounds like a good idea, what units are you going to use to back up the engineers going into their base?

You get a hand full of Minigunners and 3 jeeps to start with. It should be enough. I just have to make sure the engineer makes it to the Rax and the Rax doesn't die.

Nod 1 v2 done. It looks a lot better I think. It's a bit faster too. I'll work on Nod 2 tommorow. The strategy I have for it should work well. Edit: It seems to desync for me atleast if I have a save for the game in the save folder, so just delete it if it desyncs. Wonder why it's doing that though...

If it desyncs for you, go to your Mupen directory, open up the 'save' folder, then delete the C&C save in the there. (Should be like C&C (U) [!].fla) I'll probably redo Mission 1 again with different settings so I don't have this annoying inconvience.

It's a native 64 battery save, so if you are choosing to save don't; nobody else would have this file if played from the beginning.

Yeah deleting that file made it work, strange... I wonder if deleting this file or changing it with settings will fix desynchs in general... nice improvement btw

The game saves automatically. It doesn't ask you save or not. So, unfortunately everyone will have to keep deleting that file.

Can you start a game and then quit it to get a blank save file, and then make it read only?

Here is Mission 2. Apparently you can't make Engineers from the Rax in that mission. (Pity, it changed my strategy slightly) There are a few things I would of done in the real run here. I'd keep making more Raxes, deploy the CY at the start (I don't think it's faster than a engineer after all, and you get extra minigunner which would help having them earlier.), not get all my men squished by the enemy harvester (hehe :P ), and obviously micro my men better. This is a test run after all.

Here is Nod 3. I doubt the strategy will change in the real TAS. I simply walk my engineer in their base and take the prison and win. My bikes prove to be good body shields. I'm sure in the real TAS it will look much nicer, and I can probably micro my bikes and not lose any.
