Super Mario World is a classic platforming game for the SNES that has influenced countless other platforming games after it. It took on the the already acclaimed gameplay elements of Super Mario Bros. 3 and built upon them even further. However, as turned out many years later, Super Mario World turned out to be a very exploitable game. While playing the game as intended usually reveals nothing out of the ordinary, tons of glitches and bugs have been found that can break the game so hard, it can be beaten in less than a minute.
For this run, oddboo goes for a unique goal: beat the game as fast as possible without completing the levels as intended. That means no crossing the goal tape, no defeating bosses, and no unlocking of intended keyholes. As an extra restriction, the execution of arbitrary code can only be done to get out of a program crash; it cannot be used to instantly warp to the credits. The corruption of the game memory is fully allowed, however. For all the details on what was done during the run, including how the RAM was corrupted, you can read the author's notes.
