At first, when I saw that my inputs synced...it only did so before the bull showed up. This other version that I'm working in, doesn't have the bull. Well, the manipulation of the AI has gotten to the point where it is not as optimized. I'm going to have to lay back and think about this. I may go for running this in PAL mode, but for now...I'm taking a one day break. Please keep this on "Delayed", as I'm going to replace this with another movie as soon as I can.

So it would seem that nobody has made any effort to find any other optimizations. Alyosha, are you ready for me to pass judgement?

I don't know. Honestly, the version I played back then never had it. When I saw it, I thought that I never got that far. Now I know why. If a cracked version had it, I think I would rather stick with a clean version. These cracks drive me insane.

I finally have some news on this situation. Finally got an NTSC disk image. After reviewing the situation, my original inputs actually sync up with the new version. The only difference is that I had to inject about 20 frames to get the movie lined up. There is one major difference here. The Bull is not in this version, but the graphical glitch is gone, so I can get this new movie finished up tomorrow. But before I do, I want to ask if there is a still a chance to keep the original submission "As-Is", since we are only talking about that display glitch. I would hate that the bull is gone.

My perspective on the graphical glitches when TASing C64 in a different region settings:
  • If a game doesn't have them, and there's no other apparent glitches; then the game appears to work fine in both regions, and playing in NTSC is fine even if it was a PAL release.
  • If a game does have graphical glitches, then that's at least one indicator that other potential issues may be present with playing in the 'wrong' region (even if we don't know of or have evidence of any other glitches).
If no glitches are apparent, we can't assume there are issues with cross regional play. If glitches are apparent, we know there are issues with cross regional play (even if they are limited to graphical only).
Just one more thing to note. A lot of C64 games perform "Raster Interrupts" on screen drawings. I have a few games that do this, but it is not a glitch...its just hard to time those situations so that the screen can be drawn the way the author intended. I wonder if that is the case here, since we see a slither for about 2 blocks of display.

I'm requesting that this be put on "Delayed". I'll go ahead and try to sync this up with an NTSC Rom....most likely by redoing all the inputs. The last run-through that I did, took about 3 days. So it will not be long.

Here is a comparison video of my first and final effort. As I worked on this, I was originally shooting for Maximum Score, but it ended up being an any% run. I think you can see why, since I finally realized that I needed to control RNG to prevent any plasma weapons from being shot. Link to video

Yeah!!! Because of CoolHandMike, I figured out more about the maze drawing. Basically, he manipulated the RNG in an earlier part of the loading. Well, I went back a bit further and found a more favorable line. Additionally, I couldn't pass up the idea that the maze loaded faster. Once I was done optimizing this newer version, it ended up being 95 frames cut over CoolHandMike's effort. Even though this is a complete re-write of all the inputs, I'm still keeping him on this...since he found out the place that made a bigger difference. Thank you! Also...updating the encode.

The movement is weird where you cannot just hold the input direction as you noted otherwise you lose a frame or two. Found a slightly closer path which results in this being about 70 frames faster where both the start and entrance points are at almost the same height without too many detours. Thankfully manipulating the drones is not too hard if you just vary input. This game really does seem like one where botting it would work well by changing input right before the map loads to test different maps so you could probably find a better solution than this too. I would accept co-author if that is the path you want to take for this. Everything else looks good in it. User movie #https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638507431745813880
Wow...egg on my face! I really feel dumb now. I only thought to affect the maze RNG, shortly before the maze was displayed. I certainly didn't try hard enough. I see that you affected changes in an earlier part of the movie. Gladly accept co-authorship!

Unfortunately, when I use the thrusters...it won't let me move left or right. If you choose to move then you loose an opportunity to brake. If you brake, then you lose a moment of mobility. It's one of those limited cases, because of polling, due to it being written in B.A.S.I.C.

I made one more improvement. Changed the RND11 Minotaur fight to beat it closer to the elevator that spawns. Haven't been able to get the other suggestions to work - it always ends up with a death in RND11. Encode embed link is updated and here's the revised .bk2: User movie #638500824710515904
Thanks. I'll be starting my review tonight

Hi, thanks for asking! We're working on it, but it's a lot more effort than expected. At our current pace it's gonna take at least another few weeks until the TAS is finished. The main source for this lies in the routing: In which level do we take an item with us, and where do we use it? In order to get a satisfactory answer, we tas most of the stages in multiple ways (differently, depending on the route).
Sounds good. Thanks.
