Very nice run. A short game, some glitches, and a truly epic ending :P Yes vote, I thought it was entertaining.

A nice remake of an old puzzle game, and I think this has potential to be quite entertaining. A full TAS would require lots of planning, mostly solving puzzles in the least number of moves (since each move takes the same amount of time.) There would also be planning for avoiding "Pairs" or "Three of a Kind" since the game wastes time congratulating you for getting them. I guess if anyone wants to know more about the game, or if you want to help with planning and such just comment here. I already have a work in progress of the first ranking (out of eight in total I believe). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L44_TRwDvEU

I have a 100% run of this game almost finished, and I'm not too sure about submitting it if people thought this short run was boring! Thanks for the feedback everyone nonetheless, and comicalflop, I've already start working on the Touch and Roll movie :)

Sorry yosh, I can't seem to figure out what the problem is with the video being blocked in your country. It doesn't say it's blocked anywhere..

If I remember correctly, there is a speed gauge in the game somewhere in the bottom corner. Unless that isn't helpful to you. You can always just go for fastest in-game time if getting each level perfect to the frame is too hard, or not possible or whatever. For B2, going through the side of the "goal ball" is a glitch that only works sometimes in SMB1. I guess just keep trying different directions near the end to get the goal tape the break.

Anyone still working on this? I'd be interested in seeing the progress sonicpacker and mapler made so long ago if one of you still have it. I'm thinking about starting a TAS eventually of Beginner mode as a test, and if anyone wants help I'm sure SMBSlu (www.youtube.com/user/SMBSlu) is the person to ask for it. If you can get a hold of him that is..

The game makes it so you can't start collecting bananas for the counter to unlock World 12 until after you beat the first 11 worlds, so realistically ALL of it would be grinding, unless I decide to start from world 1 again and go for high scores rather than fastest times. (High scores require you to collect all bananas on a stage.) I personally think this would be a very good idea, so all stages in the game get played twice (besides world 12), once for time and once for score. I'm playing through the game again in real time to see how many stages I would need to play through this way (or how many times I would need to grind.) I will also think about making a separate run for world 12 if the other ideas don't work. Thanks guys for the feedback :)

This is the first Super Monkey Ball game that uses Worlds rather than difficulties. The game has 12 different worlds, and each one is unlocked by beating the previous world(s). In the game there are 2 levels with secret goals, and getting both of them unlocks world 11. After getting these secret goals, you need to collect 2006 bananas in total to unlock the final world. Getting these 2006 bananas would most likely consist of "grinding" on one stage with a ton of bananas to collect. This doesn't sound like the most interesting thing in the world, but the rest of the game would make a very entertaining run, I'd say on par with the gamecube versions of the game. Any suggestions on what kind of movie to make of this game? Or maybe if trading time for entertainment value is overall better for the banana collecting part? [edit] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oezy7jesCaQ Here is an excellent example of the kinds of crazy stuff that can happen in the game! Thanks to MisterFladdermus for making a few TAS videos of the game.

Alright thank you! I will test it out soon and see if the problem still exists. [edit] It works very well. :)

I'm using VBA Rerecording 21 for my warpless 100% run because it's what I'm most familiar with but I suppose whatever works best for you. I personally don't think bonus levels need to be completed. For anyone who doesn't know the game well, bonus levels are just chances between "normal" levels to get extra bananas. If you fall off right away without collecting all of the bananas it says "Bonus Finish" and allows you to continue on to the next level. Also, good luck with your run! If you choose to do a run with warps maybe we can have both of our runs published ;P

I've started making a 100% Super Monkey Ball Jr. TAS but it seems that I get much slower times than playing on a real console. This might be because of lag, but I doubt the game lags nonstop whenever I play it on VisualBoy. I have also come across the problem that I can't finish a specific level within the time limit, even using frame by frame, slowdown, savestates etc. The ROM I use is from here [edit] and has the file name 0763 - Super Monkey Ball Jr. (U).gba If this is NOT a standard file name, do me a favor and link me to a correct one so I can start remaking my TAS. Thanks in advance!

Just watched the video. I believe holding A will make you roll faster. Good luck with the movie!

Oh sorry, I was saying that you reset very quickly, and that I didn't know such large improvements could be made. I'm redoing my run since you reset much earlier after the cutscenes and now my movie is a lot slower than yours lol

How to do?
You mean how can you improve the boss stages? Well here's what I saw: First Stage: Perfect Mona: I don't know if you can actually go faster by keeping a straight path, but as of now it's also perfect. Jimmy T: Perfect Kat and Ana: This is where I saw a bit of mistakes. Rather than autofiring A, you should just time it frame by frame, if you time it perfectly then you can beat the ending much, much quicker; without the nose moving or having to hit any smaller enemies. Haven't watched the rest yet. (And there's another one of my giant blocks of text :P)

Only thing I can say is that a few of the boss stages can be improved. But I did not know you could reset that quickly! Redoing my entire movie now :P

Well I'm very glad you have fun doing this but honestly don't expect it to be approved when so many improvements can be made :P

Well I made kind of the exact same thread about doing warioware twisted but okay completely ignore it. I'd love to see it to make sure my WIP is up to par with it so far. [edit] alright Ill give you some constructive criticism and a few tips. -You don't need to watch the very first cut scene, it's actually skippable as well. -The first boss stage you can just hold down the B button and the LEFT arrow key to save time. -You can also reset the game the very first frame the cut scene starts, including the frame where it's still fading into it. -Good boss stage for Mona, besides the very ending. Hitting the wall at the end makes you lose a few frames. Every frame counts even in a half hour movie. -For Jimmy's boss stage, you can also just hold down B and RIGHT to beat the boss stage in a few frames. But this is all I will so for now as you can tell, I like to talk a lot :P Good for your first TAS (if I read your post correctly) but I would suggest you re-do it and fix your mistakes if you want this to have any chance at being accepted. [edit2] I also noted the rerecord count. I'm not sure if you were lucky with the frame precision timing but I'm just saying...

Yes there are many strategies I and many other players have thought of that haven't been done in realtime. I'd be glad to make a video showing all of the fastest strategies thought of for each level. And here are the fastest times for each stage http://www.elitescores.com/rank_wr.php?gid=8 [edit] here is the current record for floor 21 of advanced http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYEMJBd8MbU but he gets the banana bunch at the beginning for a better score. I'm not actually sure if you need to go back anyways to gain enough speed for the shortcut. A few more tips that I know of would be to go immediately to the right/left and then back towards the middle of where you are to gain speed at the beginning of a stage. Many of the human records aren't good examples of what's possible in a TAS as well because much faster bumps are possible for a TAS. Will post more records/strategies when I find them.

Super Monkey Ball is definitely one of my favorite games, I have many records myself. So seeing records by me, packattack and many other great players would just be amazing. If you guys need help with shortcuts or anything you can surely ask me. I can't wait to see this :D

I saw the old TAS for this game, and it got a lot of positive feedback. Donamer said he'd redo the run but never did. So it's worth a shot for me to try this right? Skipping the cut scenes is possible and I also can use "luck manipulation" (if you can call it that in this case) to speed up a few minigames. And further improvements can also be made to make the run more entertaining. I just wanted to see if people would find this entertaining, since I've noticed that Warioware games are notorious for boring TASes :P [edit] I also just realized that losing some minigames can also save some time, which is something else I haven't seen in a warioware TAS before. nevermind I was thinking of a different Warioware game..
