I could be mistaken, but I thought if you used an attack that hit all of them at once, they would also use their attack that hits everyone.

I played this for a little bit, good nostalgia kick. Seemed really grindy though, and I didn't like the idea of not being able to choose your class. (Luckily my character started as a Tank-Healer, which seems ideal)

I voted meh. I am totally fine with a run like this that goes for fastest completion. It is a perfectly valid goal. However, I would be more entertained by a TAS that would aim for the best WRs.

If you're magic-only, the best way by far to deal with bosses is to "critical hit" a BANE/RUB/XXXX spell, right?

I definitely used SNES96 and 97 back before they just changed it to 9X, and also used some NES emulators including NESticle, but the first one was probably some terrible precursor to NESticle that I don't remember anymore. My biggest highlight on old emulation was somehow getting through FF5's Ship Graveyard, on a ROM that was barely translated, with no transparency option. (Ship Graveyard, like Mist Cave in FF4, has a layer of fog covering it which is supposed to have some transparency; instead, it occluded the entire screen and was impossible to see anything.)

I tested it out (via Game Genie to add endgame weapons and armor) and the Top Ninja group will give you 180 XP/300 gold. Enough to get you level 4 by itself. If you can manipulate the criticals and dodges, this is probably faster than fighting a bunch of centipedes, rats and flames. The game continues normally, as if you had lost.

Alright, a few comments after watching the D1 video: Battles can be sped up DRAMATICALLY by pressing A at various times. You don't need to wait for messages nearly as much. I'm very curious if you can win the Top Ninja fight at the beginning. I know it's possible for you to dodge their attacks even at level 1, so in theory if you manipulate enough, you can do it. I would guess that the plot continues just the same regardless if how the battle ends, but you might get a ton of experience for doing so (and save yourself tons of time in the first couple dungeons grinding on trash enemies). I tried to find a resource to determine if Top Ninja or Ninja Shadow gave XP/items, but couldn't find anything. I'm a little surprised battles can't be manipulated away, but, so be it. It's good that you're able to manipulate the enemies that appear, at least. Can you manipulate stats on level up? They're certainly not fixed, so you should find out how to do this. Power is almost certainly the most relevant statistic. When you exit the dungeon, you randomly get one of the two scenario paths, either the one you got or one where Oda's body is burned. As far as I can tell the only thing this affects is the end boss sequence. I'm not sure which would be faster. The path you take after D1 is... interesting. You duck into Mikawa and Kai, presumably so they show up on the Flight list, and maybe so you don't succumb to fatigue and get attacked. But, here's what I would try: -Rush to Sagami ASAP -Absolutely dominate the Bingo parlor -Sell your winnings, buy the best possible weapons (you probably don't need armor, right?) -Now that you can defeat way better enemies, run from everything in dungeons until much later when the time/XP is better. You might consider taking a side trip to Sagamibo right by the town as well, if you think you'll want Level 7 as quickly as possible (I'm not convinced you ever want to pick up other allies, however). Who knows, maybe the Tengu Fan you pick up can be manipulated to kill bosses!

421 and 422 are basically Playaround TASes, aren't they? Without looking, I don't believe they optimize for speed.

I think you can get Treasure Chest from merely advancing in Radar, which saves you from leveling in Pickpocketing if you don't want.

Some nice things were shown to show off the engine, including the Apocalypse mirror match I wasn't aware existed. However, I was a bit disappointed not to see the technique that allows continuing your combo from the first character to the second one, as well as the bug where a beam hyper combo gets a lot of hits when interrupted by "Here comes a new challenger!"

The hypocrisy shown by the members on this site with respect to fighting game TASes is ridiculous. Voted yes, this is exactly what I want to see with a fighting game TAS. I don't care that it's repetitive.

I think Fighting Game TASes get a really bad rap on this site, but this one wasn't the one to change everybody's mind. I echo TheReflexWonder (EX Flash Chop or EX Elbow Slash to end the car), and creaothceann's comments. I do think the Hugo rounds are a glimpse of what would make a solid TAS.

There's definitely some extra craziness going on in the new video. The new route uses deathwarps a few times, beats Cold Killer twice (and no other Tower bosses!) and somehow enters the final sequence anyway.
