Is this lag differences or what? Left is this run, right is my own from 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlfLptpCrRM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y86ha4HeYyI Also, possible RNG manipulating necessary? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlZmjNKXyg8

I'd rather another Ocarina of Time clip be used, because the one shown, staircase hovering in Dodongo's Cavern, is child's play and can be done incredibly easily on console. Perhaps something else from the 18:46:85 or the Majora's Mask run?

It's in a specific "cutscene" version of Jabu Jabu, which is impossible to move around in unless you use the GameShark or the Debug ROM.

Pictures for anyone not quite familiar about how the 100% pause menus look, and also my opinions as to what I consider 100% below them: - Gold Skulltula token from collecting all the ones in that dungeon - Boss Key - Compass - Dungeon Map - NOT each room visited - NOT all chests opened/nor all Small Keys obtained - No RBA allowed; each item must be obtained such that it cannot be obtained twice - Stone of Agony - Gerudo Membership Card - Gold Skulltula total, no duplications allowed - All 20 hearts, no duplication allowed - All songs - All medallions - All Spiritual Stones - NOT all possible cutscenes seen (allows for Wrong Warps and Cutscene Deaths) - No RBA allowed; all items must be collected from their normal methods - Link's cow obtained (not in the menu, but part of my 100% definition) - All Great Fairy upgrades - Best upgrade for Arrows (Adult) and Slingshot (Child), as well as Bombs, Strength Upgrade, and Scales, but you DO have to collect the ones that hold a lower quantity (known as Left-Side Equipment, LSE) - Obviously, all right-side equipment (RSE), highest upgrades (i.e. minus the Giant's Knife) - No RBA allowed to touch the LSE or RSE - All items collected. No RBA allowed to place the items in the inventory, but once they're collected, their quantities can be RBA'd (Bloobliebla's Ice Cavern with all those slides = omg) - All Gold Skulltula icons in the overworld, which means that you have collected all the GS in that area EDIT: Typo

Three rings? Do you mean Training Mode instead of Meteo Warp?
No, what is meant are the warp rings right before the boss of Meteo that take you to Katina/Katarina if you go through all seven of them. Try going into first person mode as soon as you begin rotating, and then try to go through all seven of them. You'll see it's extremely difficult.

It's probably a matter of ever-increasing processing power or lessened lag. It happens on the official Gamecube version as well. See my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gipUHKOYKgE

Everyone, please imagine for a moment that every cutscene and text box in Ocarina of Time could be skipped by pressing a button like Start. Would it be any contest at all that they would be? Would an encode that does not skip the cutscenes/text be made? Please think of that when you vote, and not based on the story that this imagine spot would not have.

This link should work: http://www.wupload.com/file/2655945627/BloobielaOOTAny%20TASNoCutscenes.wmv It looks like WUpload (or somethng with your browser) read the filename wrong when you uploaded it. You named it "BloobielaOOTAny%TASNoCutscenes.wmv". When you uploaded it, it seems to have read the percentage as the beginning of the command for a space in URL schema (%20). In the future, to avoid this, just use alphanumerics.

Hex-edit may have been a bad term to use, sorry. I guess my question is simply: What makes it necessary to edit in all the medallions when you could just use bombs to get over the gap? I can only assume that there must be something you NEED them for, and my best guess is the cutscene where Zelda gives you the Light Arrows and is kidnapped. I'm just waiting for a confirmation on this.
Yes, the Light Arrow cutscene will only play once you have the Shadow and Spirit Medallions, so it's necessary to RBA them.

Just compared the two side-by-side. The Japanese TAS copies Bloob's route almost completely. The only differences is that the Japanese TAS doesn't get a Deku Stick, and so loses time in places because of its absence, and a few overall rupee differences (example: It doesn't use the Potion Shop grotto chest in Kakariko, gets the blue rupee in the Kokiri Forest shop). The gameplay is pretty sloppy in places compared to Bloob's. So yeah, slower than Bloob's.

alright, i'm kinda just talking out of my ass here because i have no clue how game programming works, but i would assume that the game is running a function to temporarily change your supply of bombchus to be infinite when you start the bowling. so what you would need to do is find out at what point the game switches you back to finite bombchus, and find a way to interrupt that or otherwise bypass it to keep them at infinite. i know that with the wrong warp stuff, it works because all the fairy fountains are in the same area, just some aren't loaded, is this the same for buildings? if so, what would happen if you were to start an ISG off of the bombchu bowling couple, hover out of bounds, and make your way into an entrance/exit that isn't loaded? would it behave normally, as if you exited the bombchu bowling alley, or would the part of the game that changes B back to sword not be called since you didn't go out the front door?
You can't use any sword in there so thus no ISG. I also tested using a walk-through-walls cheat coupled with the levitation cheat in order to leave the area (reloading ECT) without stopping the game/timer, but you just get your sword back. Interestingly though, the timer remains counting down even outside but does nothing except disappear when it reaches zero.

what was incorrect about the youtube version?
During the Ganon battle, right after recovering the Master Sword, Bloobiebla does a forward thrust slash on Ganon's tail instead of a jumpslash/something that has the power of a jumpslash. This is remedied by using a Power Crouch Stab (jumpslash power) instead. In other words, the Youtube version uses six attacks to take down Ganon while the final product uses five.

Wasn't there discussion over the issue of RBA technically acquiring a large number of items (albeit for a short amount of time)? Because of that, Low% would be tough to define.
IIRC the only things acquired in low% via RBA are 29 arrows with Ruto's Bottle (only one shot though because you don't RBA a quiver) and 29 Bombchus with a Poe. The Bombchus are already collected normally before RBA thanks to the BotW actor overwrite and vine clip glitch; RBA just gives you more of them. As RingRush said, the only thing questionable is the Deku Stick icon that appears during RBA. It's unusable and you never acquire any actual Deku Sticks ("ammo"), so some wonder if it counts as an item.

I would think that the skipping the Fairy Ocarina would be fastest. It takes a while to get into position, but that would make up the time it would take for the cutscene to run, especially if using the two-nut strategy. Surely it can't take much longer to do Ocarina Items? You gain the ability to Peahat Superslide, skip KG with the Deku Sticks, and probably other benefits (more ESS opportunities?) Downsides of using old Forest Escape: - Need more rupees - Need to go to the store and get both the Deku Shield and Deku Stick, sitting through long texts - Need to get into position for the old Forest Escape - Need to use Ocarina Items when you need to use the Ocarina (which shouldn't be too much; the only times we need to OI we can RBA at the same time) Benefits: - Skip Fairy Ocarina cutscene - Skip Kaepora Gaebora twice - Peahat Superslide and possible other Superslides - ESS opportunities with Deku Sticks Anything else I'm missing?

I love these sessions on this topic where we just throw out tons of questions, but usually don't get many useful answers. I think this thread needs more MrGrunz action (he is a good OoT tester IMO).
couldn't this be used in a 100% run to get all skultulas and heartpieces?
No, 100% is defined by picking up each individual item; no duplication glitches. In the Gold Skulltula case, you need to have the Gold Skulltula icons on the world map and the individual dungeon status screens.

Check out the FAQ I posted earlier in this topic: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=229494#229494 If you have any additional questions after that, feel free to ask. Also, the subtitle explanation sounds like a great idea.

maybe having light arrows is already enough to trigger the cutscene, but someone once told me, that it doesn't work
GameSharking the Light Arrows into your inventory will trigger the rainbow bridge cutscene if you have the Spirit and Shadow Medallions (although the "Sheik reveals his true form" cutscene will still play if you go to the Temple of Time). So basically, to be able to form the rainbow bridge the game checks for the Light Arrows and the Spirit/Shadow Medallions but doesn't check if the Sheik cutscene has been played yet. Use this GameShark code, which gives you the Light Arrows, to try it yourself (U 1.0): 8011A654 0012 Activate that code, get the Broken Goron's Sword but don't RBA it until you've gone to the exact spot where the rainbow bridge cutscene triggers. Once you RBA the Broken Goron's Sword, the cutscene will play immediately. After that cutscene, head to the Temple of Time and you'll see the Sheik cutscene.

An addendum to mzxrules' post above, here's a list answering almost any possible questions: - After leaving the Kokiri Forest shop, the TAS jumpslashes into the water and flies backwards. >>> There are four ways to escape Kokiri Forest before completing the Deku Tree. This method is called “Water Extended Super Slide” (or Infinite Super Slide, whichever you prefer). By entering and exiting the water quickly while holding the control stick a specific direction, you can move like this. This gives enough speed to be able to clip the Kokiri blocking your way out of the forest. >>> This method of escape is considered unoptimal for a TAS because it activates the “get Fairy Ocarina” cutscene. This is unnecessary and only wastes time, as through another glitch known as Ocarina Items you can play an Ocarina even though you have none. - After going into Hyrule Field for the first time, the TAS switches between the Sword and the Deku Stick really fast. >>> Switching between a Sword and the Deku Stick every other frame skips your encounter with Kaepora Gaebora, an owl who talks to you and wastes time. - After skipping the owl, the TAS flies backwards. >>> This is a Super Slide. By rolling into something you can grab and having something push you away from it, you’ll fly straight backwards as long as you hold the R button. >>> >>> Later on in the run, the TAS is able to move in different directions after a Super Slide. This is an extension of the Super Slide called the Extended Super Slide (or, again, Infinite Super Slide). The same specific direction on the control stick is held to achieve this as it was during a Water Extended Super Slide. - In the Fishing Pond, the TAS receives the Golden Scale as a child. >>> By holding the Z button as you come out of the water and holding until you talk to the fisherman, he’ll give you the Golden Scale for some reason. - The purpose of the trip to King Zora in Zora's Domain is only to get Ruto’s Letter out of the Bottle so that you can use it. This could be considered unoptimal because you can get a Bottle another way. - Before taking the owl to the entrance to Hyrule Castle Town Market, TAS messes around. >>> This is to wait until the sun rises and the bridge to the market is down. - Going out of bounds in the Temple of Time is used to skip getting all three Spiritual Stones. - Once you become an adult and talk to Sheik, the TAS goes out of bounds and dies. >>> After the adult sequence, you’re stuck in that room because the Door of Time blocks your way out (you never opened it). You need to get out of bounds by clipping into a pillar and die, save, not continue, then resume your save. You’ll appear in the Temple of Time normally and be able to continue. - Why is there a Bomb icon on C-Down? He never picked it up…? >>> This is the way the game was developed. As Adult Link cannot use some of Child Link items, the developers added a default C-button setup (including Bombs on C-Down) for Adult Link. - The TAS gets the Pocket Egg before going to the Graveyard to give it time to hatch (it needs one full day). - The TAS goes into the Graveyard and races Dampe for the Hookshot. >>> This is considered unoptimal because the newest route skips the Hookshot. The Hookshot was only necessary in two places: >>> >>> Getting into the Fishing Pond. This is skipped by obtaining a Magic Bean through another sequence break, planting it, and riding the Magic Leaf as an adult to the Fishing Pond. >>> >>> Crossing the broken bridge in Gerudo Valley. This is skipped by another glitch which would allow you to cross the bridge. - After getting the Hookshot, the TAS dies. >>> After the Hookshot room, the player needs to play the Song of Time to progress, which was never obtained. Therefore, the player needs to get either crushed by the door or hop back into the Hookshot room once it closes to get back to the beginning of the race. - The TAS pulls out the Ocarina of Time despite never obtaining it…? >>> Adult Link will always pull out the Ocarina of Time, even if he has the Fairy Ocarina instead. - The TAS goes into the Fishing Pond and out again after stealing the fisherman’s hat! >>> Stealing the fisherman's hat was not necessary; it was only done for entertainment (no time was lost doing so, however). This was part of a glitch called "Steal the Fishing Rod". By diving in shallow water and casting the rod immediately after surfacing (the TAS directs the cast towards the hat so he can steal that too), you can take the Fishing Rod out of the Fishing Pond (usually the fisherman stops you from doing so). By getting the Fishing Rod outside, you can get a Deku Stick on B, which allows you to get a Bottle on B. >>> The Fishing Rod stays on B until he gets to Kakariko Village. - The TAS pauses and unpauses, then releases bugs in a Bottle multiple times. What’s with this? >>> The pause and unpause turns the Fishing Rod into a Deku Stick >>> The “error” sound played is the process of putting a Bottle on B; you get a Bottle in your hands, hit the C-button the Bottle is on then hit B to turn it into a Bottle, all in mid-air. This begins Reverse Bottle Adventure (RBA). The item on C-Right when the bottle is emptied or items are picked up in the Bottle on B manipulates the memory in various ways. >>> The first bottle dump, with a Bomb on C-Right, activates the slot where Bombs would be in your inventory and bombs will appear if you destroy bushes ("bomb drops"). >>> The second bottle dump, with the white chicken Pocket Cucco on C-Right, gives Link a pair of Gauntlets that allows him to pick up bushes and get items from them. This is necessary because Link currently has no weapon equipped to cut the bushes himself (the Bottle is on B) >>> The third bottle dump, with the blue chicken Cojiro on C-Right, gives Link a Quiver and a Bomb Bag so Link can collect bombs. >>> Later on in the run, the fourth bottle dump, with the Poacher’s Saw on C-Right, gives Link various songs, including the Prelude of Light song, so he can easily go back to the Temple of Time, and Zelda’s Lullaby, so he can summon the Great Fairy and obtain Magic. >>> Later on in the run, the fifth bottle dump, with the Broken Goron’s Sword, gives Link various Medallions, including the Spirit and Shadow Medallions. This allows the cutscenes where Sheik reveals his true form and the rainbow bridge to Ganon's Castle is formed to be triggered. For some reason, the only check to activate these scenes the developers programmed into the game was for the Spirit and Shadow Medallions. - On the bridge where you received the Fairy Ocarina, the TAS sets a Bomb down and does a little jump on the side of the entrance to damage boost onto the sides of the bridge, saving some walking time. - The TAS is able to buy an Arrow because he got the Quiver via RBA earlier. - Directly after this, the TAS jumps directly onto the roof of a building. The fact that this roof is able to be grabbed is just a fault of the game design. - Why does the TAS pull out the Odd Mushroom twice in the Old Hag’s shop? >>> This is also a result of the game itself. The first you pull it out the game will never recognize it. - In the Great Fairy’s Fountain, Link plays the Ocarina with the Hookshot…? >>> This is a glitch called Ocarina Items which would allow the Ocarina to be skipped. To do this glitch, you need to have a bottle in your hands, jump or backflip, and then press the button the bottle was on followed by an item while in mid-air. - Just a note, the TAS uses a slow console-speedrun setup to get across the broken bridge in Gerudo Valley. It shouldn’t be possible to cross without the Longshot (obtained in the Water Temple), but the Hookshot can reached with extreme precision. >>> It is possible to cross the bridge without the Hookshot, as mentioned before, with another glitch. - The TAS skips dispelling each barrier in Ganon's Castle by hovering with bombs? >>> Briefly, a glitch called the Infinite Sword Glitch allows Link to hover by blocking damage from bombs in the air. >>> The way the game is programmed, the trigger to enter the interior of Ganon’s Tower is accessible by just flipping into the side of the wall. - The TAS uses the Master Sword to defeat Ganon even though it was knocked from his hands? >>> The player is able to keep the Master Sword if he performs and sustains a Super Slide during that cutscene. EDIT: Minor spelling fixes.

Curiously, all four of these are connected to a memory manipulation glitch by the name of Reverse Bottle Adventure. I won't pretend to understand the details, but by putting a bottle on the B button, emptying and refilling the bottle causes memory to be manipulated, including, say, the number of medallions you have.
An addendum to the first bullet; stealing the fisherman's hat was not necessary; it was only done for entertainment (no time was lost doing so, however). For some reason, if you catch a fish that beats the record, then hold Z while getting out of the water, and keep holding it until you intiate a conversation with the fisherman, he will give you the Golden Scale.

For the most part it's Japanese and could still be faster vs more optimal than the previous run and the old run needs to be updated. I voted yes, but I have a few questions, as I haven't completely kept up with OoT tricks. (I figure these are related, but just incase not, I'll ask all my questions): 1) How does Link regain the Master Sword, buys Arrows and is able to play some of the songs? 2) What is the purpose of letting go and catch the bugs? 3) How is the Poacher's Saw related to having all the Medallions so Zelda appears (or at least the Shadow/Spirit ones)? I've seen most of the tricks and I noticed myself a few improvements that could be made, but I'm really curious about the above 3 questions. Also, I think this run could be used as a "temporary published run" until the run everyone is waiting for is completed. It would at least be more representable than the current published run, though this being Japanese and breaking a few rules makes it debatable.
1, 2, and 3 are part of a memory manipulating glitch called Reverse Bottle Adventure. By getting a Bottle on B and having a specific item like the Poacher's Saw on C-Right when you let go and catch the bugs, you can manipulate the memory to get a (glitched) Quiver, various songs, and various Medallions.
