It sounds like this is a "playaround." Not that there's anything wrong with that, some of my favorite TASes are playarounds.

I don't seem to be able to figure out how to get SNES9x 1.53, and Bizhawk 1.9.1 is unsurprisingly indignant when I try to get it to run a SNES9x movie. I'm curious as to why "yellow switch palace" is a meaningful goal, but I'ma wait for an encode.

Aside from a couple sections that were way too long, the movie was pretty entertaining. That's the case for a couple published runs on the site, really, so a Yes is my vote.

Input not crisp--I can watch you do a half-circle motion very clearly, for instance. Very few opportunities taken for backthrows despite many opportunities being presented. Combos not ideal or even terribly flashy. Parries in a TAS are wholly uninteresting unless done in a profoundly uncommon way. All in all this looks more like a recording of someone playing with exploitation of savestates for personal amusement rather than chasing any particular goal. Voting no.

Good luck on that. The game is extremely rare in cartridge form, but luckily you can get it for Virtual Console on the 3DS.
It looks like WF successfully got a Kickstarter funded to make a new iteration in the series for modern consoles, too, so that's good news.

It's more that "it's" is "it is," and not "the one belonging to it." I'm sure it misses it is mommy! Well, yeah, I'd miss under those conditions too, to be fair. This run is great and this game looks grand too. I'll be searching for a copy while I vote Yes...

I think this movie qualifies for publication. It accomplishes what a doing-what's-expected playthrough of the game does--it displays the "You Won!" sequence, complete with accurate music and general control (un)responsiveness. I do, however, think that this run shouldn't obsolete anything currently in publication. I don't feel like what happens during input after the end-of-game sequence necessarily has any bearing on whether the game's victory condition was completed. After all, this site is, in no small part, dedicated to fooling games into reacting to things in ways that they weren't intended to. Adding a requirement that a run should end the game in the exact same state it would have ended in a realtime, human-hands victory is arbitrary, and against the fact of a couple other successful publications (although I don't believe any of them are considered mainline publications for their game, it must be noted). It's an interesting implementation of ideas manifest in the game, and I'm impressed that what took a giant cluster of enemies to accomplish with the DelayStageClear phenomenon was invoked, in the end, with apparently a mere buster shot. It uses the damn music as a prop for the violence it does to the game's sensibilities! This is a high mark of the craft of TASers. If anything, the fact that it got the victory celebration and then still screwed with the game even after is a Cool Thing, something unexpected that I didn't know the game could be twisted to do. It is for these reasons that I vote Yes.

This is a compelling story of how Samus, villainous bounty hunter, loses patience with countless TAS breakthroughs and obsoletions, and simply blows up the planet herself and runs away before she has to deal with the consequences of her actions. Also I appreciate the cutsceneless encode. Kudos to you for that. Of course this is a yes vote.

I expected this to get boring. But it didn't, not really. I'm interested to see the more detailed notes on this, but it seems like it was expertxper?...oh no. An expertly done run.

God, this hack is so effing good. This run is no slouch either--I wasn't expecting to be so entertained for the conveyor-track bit, but there it was nonetheless. There's a lot of fantastic tricks on display, and there's not a moment of boredom. Super thumbs up.

I remember when this game (or at least its arcade version) was so popular that there was a Saturday morning cartoon based on it. Never had a chance to play it myself, though. As such it's good to see a run of it, even though it may not be sufficiently deep to support this-is-obviously-a-TAS style action. I recall seeing other movies here of games that would be easily missable except for being cultural touchstones, so I have no problem voting Yes for this.

I actually missed the interesting parts of this run the first two times I sat down to watch it, in trying to skip past all the RRFJ. I can only assume it's not so easy to bounce harmlessly off every floor-mounted hazard in realtime? Seems like a bit of an oversight, like the game wasn't designed with that mechanic in mind like Ducktales was.

It's true, and in fact I'm surprised/impressed that you managed to have the red screen up for such an incredibly short time when performing an IK. Back when I played the game with a friend that was always the most intense full second of any match, but it's way less than that here. My childhood is a lie!

It's important to note that in this initial installation of the series, Instant Kills can actually be countered. During that time when the screen is tinted red, the victim of the IK startup can do qcb,P+K to cancel out the attack and return to neutral state to continue fighting. During this red-screen, both players can mash their IK attack or defense command, and whoever inputs it more gets their desired result out of it. (Or maybe it's based on input speed. Never been entirely sure.) Obviously AI does it slightly differently, and I'd guess each opponent has a number of "counter inputs" to pass in order to successfully Instant Kill, and Testament and Justice can receive the IK initial attack but will always successfully counter it. I suppose Chipp is the same way, apparently! Also I second the motion for an inclusion of Baiken. This still had a pretty good showing of Ky's combo potential, so this is a Yes from me.

The actually-submitted one looks way better. Still not quite right--the log stage, for instance, could be way improved by clearing out the lesser enemies right before bossman shows up so you don't have to spend so much time whirlwinding out of danger. Also what Scahfy said about the autofire shuriken before a stage boss appears. There's quite a few little things like that in this run--they don't really change the end result, but they're unsightly. If it were just those, I'd probably vote favorably, but with the unnecessary sideways movement and the mess with the logs, I'ma have to vote No. But I think you're definitely on the right track.

He's saying your run is sloppy and slow. Which, presuming that YouTube video is your submitted run, it is. For example, you are only getting closer to the end of stage when you are moving forward (and moving only forward gets you to the end faster than moving diagonally forward). Therefore, any time you can, you should be moving straight forward. Any time you are not moving straight forward, it should be because you have no choice but to change your path, i.e. you are about to be hit and will die, or you need to change paths to get a needed scroll. Everything focuses on being fast. If you can save even 1/60 of a second, you should do so. Any unnecessary movement must be eliminated, anything that wastes time must be removed. edit: On watching the later parts of the movie, you seem to largely do this in at least the last stage, but the earlier stages are still kind of a mess. I think if you go back through it rigorously, this could be a solid run.

No matter how much whinging about "low glitch" and "look at what glitches you actually used" and all that, it is undeniable that this run provides an interesting and watchable alternative to the sense-destroying runs this game has had in its last few TAS iterations. Frankly I think it should be published and "low glitch" is a fine classifier, because to a viewer it's readily understandable and has high descriptive value. Further specification can be done in the submission text, i.e. a guide to which glitches have been used and which have been deliberately avoided, but as I recall entertainment value and precise execution are the most valued qualities here as stated--let those be the guidelines for further submissions that contest this one as well; any yelling about glitch selectivity is missing the point. So yeah. Voting yes.

My favorite part about LTTP runs is that when an improvement is made, it's usually something completely bonkers that's new. This did not disappoint.

It's amazing and staggering, but it is surprisingly boring, and the payoff doesn't really have the "whoa, what?!" factor. I'd support this one for the Vault, much as it pains me to say so and as much as I feel like I should apologize for doing so.

I agree that it was pretty reasonable to watch, being so short. There is really not much here to see, and the points made about speed cannot be ignored. And it is a bit sloppy-looking in parts, several of the flipkicks do not land and it is left apparently as an exercise for the viewer to figure out why they were thrown at all. So it's demonstrably suboptimal, has no exhibition of any "neat tricks," and the best thing that can be said is that its duration is mercifully short. I think my vote is clear.
