I just downloaded BizHawk. I know how to use MHS and mupen64. How do I watch the speed value on BizHawk? (Step by step would be appreciated) Also, does this game work just as good on BizHawk or is mupen still recommended (lag-frame-wise)

As a taser, I knew that 2-3-1 part had to be like the highlight of the run. It just seemed so frame perfect and tightly optimized I doubted it could be done any better. After reading your section by section comments and seeing how the scrubs are hit exactly a frame apart from each other in the 2-3-1 order, I was surprised I was able to recognize such an awesome section just by my "naked" eye. (In fact, it made me wonder, do other people actually see the awesomeness that I see in this part?) I was also very pleased to hear how you got to save pixel after pixel and eventually save those 3 frames (or that frame) for the inside collapsing section. I get really happy when one is able to barely squeeze that frame by pixels and it just barely makes it! It gives a sense of quality to the run. I'll vote for this run. My vote should be pretty obvious already...

Can we see the movie so far? I mean how many frames ahead are you? It would be sad for all this tasing to go unseen I mean I doubt you'll tie your previous manipulation (according to your post)... I remember getting huge differences in lag during cutscenes with majoras mask but when I would play the file back I would get a bunch of desyncs back then so I don't know if what you are observing is actually true or just the emulation being buggy...

Stick with the original idea, re-do it. If it saves time, implement it. Don't be lazy! I don't want to see an incomplete run! It's either all or nothing. !!!

I think this game is in dire needs of a new tas that will use T.T IMO. It'll be more entertaining no matter what

Kyman, just to let you know what I think ahead of time. If you are to make an 100% run of this game, I think you can make a significant improvement over sami's run from consistent sheer optimization throughout the run. However, even if you do cut a good amount of time compared to the final time now, I still don't think it's going to make a big difference overall for the run. I would still enjoy watching sami's run now. However, the run will no doubt look a lot better, cleaner, more watchable, friendly, etc... You have got me very excited though if you are really determined to make a run of this game as if you do, I think it might be it's very last one because it's a game that doesn't look like you can get any major improvements from glitch-breaking for example as the way it was coded seems tight. I also hope you will prove me wrong, sending sami's run to dust from all the possible craziness you think is fair game. I am looking forward to what the future may bring :P

As for the strict categorization, I don't know that you can come up with a clean, concise category for this run. Who cares? It's awesome anyway.
Then why bother post for submission on TASvideos? A youtube encode would suffice w/ possibly a link to it in the SM64 thread. I'm just aggravated how they contradicted the reasonable arguments for such a run being worthy of submission and publication here by using HSWK for a star (Boo). I would suggest you hex edit out the HSWK w/ either another star or...you decide. And maybe then you can start defining this run in a way that will include the bob-omb wall glitch to "go through walls"...

Hm, actually this run uses something like high speed wallkicks in TTM, so now that I think of it, it should either be obsoleted by a 1 star HSWK run or rejected due to arbitrary goal selection. ;p I kid. Arbitrary goals are fine with me if they produce interesting runs.
The wall kicks in TTM are actually gwk (glitch wall kicks), not hswk. However, hswk are noticeably used in the BBH star "Big Boo's Balcony," and elsewhere. We already knew this was a flaw in defining 70 Stars BLJless. This is why we pointed out that one of our goals was "no major skips."
Where else? You should have skipped this star if you were going to use HSWK.

This isn't a 100% run; it's an "any% with no BLJs" run.
I'm not sure if this statement is true; I remember it being possible to beat the game with 1 star BLJless by using HSWKs instead. I unfortunately don't have enough time to watch the whole video or analyze it, but if HSWKs are not abused during the run, then the run goal could be defined as "any% while Mario's speed does not exceed [some number]" where [some number] is whatever is required to get all those wall collision glitches to work. If HSWKs or other speed related glitches are used, then "any%" cannot be used to describe the run, and it should be described as "intentionally gets the fewest number of stars intended by the game developers even though fewer is possible, in order to provide more entertainment".
it’s a “glitchless any%” run
Pff, yeah, as if using the bomb-omb for chain's gates isn't a glitch...

- Was chests in the current and Navigating the toxic maze your best options? - I like the Boo snapshot by far more than the other ones. - Sub 1:30 for 120? Is that some kind of a joke? I would estimate at least a sub of 1:15. - Entertaining run with too many stars as highlights to point out.

Oh, this counts all presses not just A (that of jumping). So you were saying if you slowed down you would still need to press --> to enter the pipe. Ok that makes more sense. I guess that's one reason I didn't like this run that much; I was only focusing on the jumps. I kind of see Happylee's point now...although a minimum A presses still sounds more appealing than this :P (even if I would still consider it an arbitrary category deemed unpublishable, I think it would attract a lot more viewers). Oh well, I guess I won't vote at all for this one

Don't take this offensively but I would really be looking forward to seeing this run from Happylee. I still fail to see why you made an extra jump at 0:15 when you can clearly slow down and walk through the pipe. I am also aggravated at how you jump high on the flag poles when you could probably save the viewers time by jumping as low as possible (on those flag poles). And I do think it can be further optimized on top of all that so...at first I thought I would abstain from voting but after making such a worthwhile comment, I am going to vote no, since meh would bother me after all that I said

Look at that! More people complaining about the moderators doing their job... I wonder what's going on (darkkobold)? Anyway, I've mentioned it once, I'll mention once more (even though this will be more work for the judges): The ratio of action gameplay vs text should always be examined and taken into consideration when judging a J rom or so (and of course compared to the U rom's ratio). Maybe we can settle down to what number (of ratio) would warrant it reasonable to approve the J rom for each individual case where the author deems it more appropriate. We wouldn't need to be 100% strict with that number but it would serve a good guideline for breaking the rule of using other roms (basically J vs U) in every case the author uses J rom because he finds it saves quite a significant portion of time. If a run is submitted in the U rom, and the J rom's ratio is later found to be greater or equal to that ratio, it should not replace the U rom if it is not improved anyhow otherwise (ie a hex edit of the game play parts to a J rom). So for the U rom, no necessary extra work for the judges or author(s); for the J rom each case will need to be checked. If the ratio is far below the one we settle down with, then the run can automatically be rejected.

SP seriously you suck!!! Wait for the freakin Japanese to get the job done correctly. I don't even know why you're still dragging yourself in this run as an "author". And stop showing off "Oh I suggested this...this was my trick...I did this and this..." grow up. You're clearly submitting suboptimal stuff!! When I heard they let SP do the wall kicks I was like " oh no not again". I knew those wall kicks were far from optimized... pff you're just so annoying...

Where to begin... Swordless; this has got to be one of your best works so far. There were several parts that were in fact breathtaking (despite being a tas and us knowing you won't die or anything). I have to say fire temple and beyond is where the run turns into insomnia. It feels like your tasing suddenly improves tenfold after that, although I know the stuff before that is optimized as well. I totally agree to your description about fire temple! At first I was like "Whoa, fire temple without tunic? This guy is crazy!" (yeah even if it's a tas you still need to scan it beforehand and make sure it's feasible with only that amount of hearts etc). But the part I'm really talking about is Volvagia! That stuff was seriously the definition of "scary". I was constantly looking at the timer and like "Omg, Volvagia's cutscene just started wtf! why is it taking so long" LOL and just seeing you hookshooting her in the air I was like "will these hits be enough will these hits be enough" and then "NO NO he's gonna die before that stupid blue thing activates!!!" until I saw you did something GENIUS speaking to navi's observation on the skull head which in turn freezed the timer from going down to 0. Then, the shadow temple trick, there was something about it I kind of knew SL wasn't controlling link now. It was Grunz! He did a great job with the trick. I heard it's in fact pixel-wise precision. That's scary; I wouldn't dare try it out without all the necessary tools and addresses. That youtuber was right! Hookshot Bongo Bongo in the air made the fight considerably faster especially to the eye (not Bongo Bongo's lol). Another part I noticed of somewhat different control was barinade fight. Bloob is really awesome because that fight did impress me and added more variety to the run. Btw, I lol'd at your description about Temple of Time cutscene "Speedrunners love this cutscene because it's so short" LOL that was surprising to my monotonous reading (although I really like your description and especially how you explain the tricks; you do it right, even a newbie could easily catch on asap with the mechanics of the tricks) Moving along...there were just so many parts I had to watch, re-watch and re-rewatch several times because they were so mindblowing I couldn't think not only how one was able to think of this stuff but to pull it off as well. Much of this was with the forest stuff. ie going to zora's by bomb glitching somehow through the loading zone of the white marble in that pond was insane. And in the forest temple this might be an oldie but still surprises me because it looks so tight: the part where you bomb yourself off the edge to super jump and then equip hover boots and reach the ledge. It just always looked like "how in the world did link make it" that ledge always looked ungrabbable to me for some reason too. And then after that ground jumping in the air after hover walk to grab that other ledge was a big gap too. The OOB block skip by entering door from behind and re-entering was clever as well. Ok forest temple was just insane don't mean to drag it here I also love just how much style got rubbed off in this play. The twinrova stuff made me lol but honestly when I had played this game (not the first time as I was too young then :P) and was fighting them two witches and heard the sound effects they had added to the stabs of their union alter ego and looking at her body expressions I was like "wow one can get really creative with this" so I really don't blame you lol. Generally what I like about your tases of this kind especially are the little details of optimization you make that the more the viewer thinks about them the more they make sense. That's where I can tell what quality stuff I'm really watching. All these little time savers really make an impact on the viewers perception because they strike his mind and occupy it consciously and subconsciously (not sure about unconsciously lol). This is the first time I have EVER felt so active in watching a tas. I thought I'd watch it in parts every night before I went to bed but instead of getting sleepy it was doing the opposite I almost finished it in one sitting. I'll definitely re-watch it at least once before I comment on youtube as well :P Lastly, I know you chose to both choose the Japanese Rom and submit to Tasvideos and if anything I could only agree to the publishing of this run even though that's against the rules of this site. As you said it in the description: The amount of time the Japanese rom saves as a general effect is significantly noticeable. The cutscenes fit much better with this fast paced run. I would try to skip a few of the longer cutscenses by forwarding on youtube (like the huge one when master sword is picked up) and every time found myself forwarding too much I was like "wow I know it's tas and every dialogue box or whatever is pressed on the earliest frame as possible and stuff but that was just short" so both TAS & Jap characters really had an impact. For technicality to the jusdges and stuff: The ratio of action play to cutscene gameplay in Jap rom as compared to the ratio of action play to cutscene gameplay in the English rom seems to be a significantly large difference overall for this case specifically in both strict timing and aesthetics. If the rules are to be bent anywhere this is the place because reason permits. I'm sure that wasn't all I had to say for this candidate of a run but oh well, hope you get the message ;)

obvious troll is obvious... I don't see the problem of having 1 thread for a N64 game(hack) in the N64 games part of this forum. people have tons of Super Mario World hack threads under SNES games. Also Brian, I think DarkKobold's posts made much more sense than your posts.
Wow, am I glad I haven't ever been on the snes forums. Dude, I just visited them to see what you're talking about and it's absolutely horrible. God help the N64 games thread to not become anything like that mess. So unorganized I can hardly find any known SNES games. See what I'm talking about? Wouldn't it be much more appropriate putting all that junk under one thread? Of course it would and you know it deep inside...even if you're not willing to admit it. Who will take the brave step on the minority side of this issue? Reason shall prevail and let us not fear how big the majority is my friends. Wow this turning into a comedy. But seriously, take it seriously now would you

Lex, you don't seem to understand as well. On the frontpage of tasvideos.org/forum you see all the threads and a name next to them of the most recent post. Ok so far? The only few places I look at (glance at) are the names under N64 games, and occasionally workbench/published/ and even rarer gruefood. That's really all I do. So when I see "Pikachuman" or whatever after a post I made or someone else I remember making, I go "Wow, a new post by someone. Let me CLICK on N64 games and see what this is about." And it's about the same HACK of an n64 game. (which should not by any means be considered an n64 game). Why should I waste my precious time of even clicking on N64 games if a post was made on something completely irrelevant to me when this HACK is not really a game. If it were an official n64 game and it completely uninterested me, THEN I would ignore it. Do you blind ones, see my point now??? I don't know how much clearer I can make things for you.

I am well aware I am not a moderator (not even interested in being one) and am not "playing" pretend; I'm for real. Keep things organized are not words reserved only for moderators; if one is not organized they mess up others who just log in to look at any new posts on the n64 games he/she is well aware of and not anyones hack or whatever... HHS: I guess it's my fault for the misunderstanding; I would call this a topic; N64 games, Workbench, etc as threads. That's what I meant by keeping things in the right place. Thanks for telling us how to do our job. Additionally, there are plenty of threads for hacks, unlicensed games, homebrew, and etc. This thread is perfectly appropriate. I'd suggest you drop it. Additionally, it is rather ironic you are "wasting your precious time" posting such drivel, driving a thread to the top, the very thing you didn't want. You do have the power to ignore it. This thread stays. Grow up, and ignore it if you don't like it.
If only you actually did your job (properly), this topic would have been moved elsewhere on first sight with some notice to the reader. It's you the one who needs to grow up because why would I ignore something that's bothering me when I have the power to change it? And I'm not talking about the "power" of a moderator but the power of a voice. I suggest you stick to actually doing your job rather than showing off "Hey, look at me! I'm moderator and I can do this and that". We can tell who does their job and who just wears their position as an ornament. Furthermore, what seems ironic to you, is actually me defending my point; anyone in their right mind would realize it's not the topic I am supporting, but my argument. It's not a waste of time fighting for your point. I won't bring up examples; if you're too blind to see where I'm getting at too bad for you. Consider this conversation "dropped". I'm done with you. Geez, it's no wonder why people here find you so obnoxious...

Ok I just had to post this: -Pikachuman, the title "Ocarina of Time hack Zelda's Birthday" implies to me that this is no "official" rom (or not in the way the Master quest edition is). That said, this topic shouldn't have even been under "N64 games". Of what I understood, there are people who would like to see a tas of this because of reasons X, etc (you can include me in here too if you would like even though I haven't played this "hack" or seen much (if any) of it); but that does not make a legitimate reason for submitting such a run here. "But who said anything about submitting here?" Well, my point exactly, why are you posting this stuff (specifically) here? Then, look at the fact that people haven't posted in between your last 5 trillion posts. This could be a good indication that maybe they have ceased to show interest because of reasons like emulation issues, rom lags, Y, Z, etc OR they just realized how pointless it is discussing about something like this HERE. So why are you pushing this? Were you waiting for a post like mine to realize it? I mean, I absolutely love Zelda OoT, so much that just looking at the graphics and some new endings or a bit of a modified story plot would be like a dream come true for the epicness this game has had to my life, but again, not the right place here... I may not be a TASVideos "employee", but I really felt like doing something about this.
I think people are allowed to discuss games that arn't tas-able yet (e.g. DK for N64). Any usefull information about tasing this game should be posted and discussed here. I have seen other rom hacks been discussed in other threads too. I'm just happy we don't get all these posts in the Zelda OoT thread.
This will be my first and last reply to you dear newbie: Donkey Kong 64 is an official rom of n64. Wake up. My point was make a new THREAD as you said. Don't post anyone's hack under n64 games. Like seriously...just stop ruining it. I mean, I saw Pikachuman mention sm64 The missing stars...like seriously just that was enough to not make me want to check out this game even further (not that I have played that game but hopefully you get my point). Keep things organized.
