I'm not sure where this needs to go... I didn't see a "Seed Request" forum here so...
I'm requesting a seed for the new Metroid timeattack done by Jeff.C Here is the link:
http://tracker.tasvideos.org/metroid-timeattackv4-jeffc.avi.torrent
There's about 15 peers and no seeds, thus no downloading :(
Thanks :)
Yes yes.
I didn't "release" it yet - I started encoding it and set a timer to add the file to the tracker and then went sleeping.
When I woke up, it had 32 downloaders and I had forgot to put the autoseeder up.
Should work now :)
Time to finish the release...
PS: Welcome to the board. You're from the ITG staff, right?
I'm not from the iTG staff, but I'm very close friends with the iTG staff, and I actually suggested the idea of the superplay movies as an open topic of discussion.
I'll talk more about that when I revisit the thread.
I didn't see any topic for this, so I made a new one.
I was wonder if you guys, Jeff C. in particular, knew that you can enter final stage with the walls that take 8 or 7 missles, kill how ever ever many you want, leave, come back, and the ones you killed will be gone. at least I think this works for metroid and super metroid.
I was thinking maybe instead of killing kraid you could get 30 or 40 missles, there's 25 in one bunch in the section before riddley's hideout that are pretty close. I looked at a map, and found using one of these 30 or 40 missle routes instead of the kraid route would be like 5-10 screens faster. Thing is, you'd have to restock up on missles 2 or 3 times, depending if went for the 30 or 40 route. Also, can't those orange rings give you missles? Was this idea considered?
Also with the Kraid route, there is one part after returning from killing Kraid, near the top, after going left through the door into the final shaft with the elevator, you normally would drop down and come up around on the left side, freezing 4 platform enemies. I was thinking maybe instead you could use like a 2 or 3 bomb sequence boost and jump up from where you come out of the door.

If you don't kill kraid, can you reach Tourian?

That wouldn't be very fun to watch, and fighting the Mother Brain would be very difficult that that few missiles available to you. It might actually take more time doing it this way, since you'd have to keep running back and forth and waiting to refill misiles.
The only way to know that is testing.Like in Dragon Warrior, it is more longer to gain EXP than killing the final boss for 1 damage per hit.So I think it may be faster like Spider-Waffle said.
You are right, so I've tested it even though I was pretty sure it was slower.
I resume at 6:20 in timeattackv4. I went into Norfair and picked up the 25 missiles and then headed back towards Tourian. The two videos intersect at the one platform above the blue door on the right in the long blue corridor. In the new attempt, this was at 11:12. In the Kraid route, this was at 10:58, and when I redo it this will be about 5 seconds faster for 10:53. So the Kraid route is already faster without all the missile refilling I'd have to do.
I don't know if it's possible to get out of there because of the short platform. I've come close though. But I think that I will end up using an unmorph jump across that gap that will save about 5 seconds.
Yes, I only go to Kraid for the 75 missiles.
The route I was planing would resume from the original route after getting the first missle pack (MP). Then go down into Norfair, get the 5 MPs and the icebeam. Then go back to the first MP spot and resume on original route to get bombs. Or, if going for 40 missles, after getting the 5 MPs and the icebeam go left past the lift and get another MP, then on the way to the bombs either go up to the top of the gold column then go right and get another MP along the way, or go the normal way into the bombs, and then go to the top row and get the MP going left.
I don't know how all these secret passages work, but I think you may need to have bombs in order to get some of the missle packs in that 5 cluster and the icebeam there as well. If not I'm suprised you didn't do this route. If so I think you can still get 3 of the those MPs in the one row and maybe the icebeam, or maybe the icebeam requires bombs and the 3 MP row requires icebeam and/or bombs. If you could get those 3 MPs you could get the other 2 MPs described above to get 30 total missles.
Also, maybe the mother brain remembers it's damage when you leave and go back, then could do it with only 10 missles. Or, if the rinkas could give you missles the mother brain wouldn't have to remember it's damage.
I just found out that there's a bunch of special glitch rooms in this game that you can enter using this halfway stuck in door go through wall technique, I'm guessing none of this is usefull for a time attack? Here's a link for info about this:

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
Just to get the 3 MPs I'd have to get the Hi-Jump. Bombs are required to get that Ice Beam and the other 2 MPs. It doesn't work.
The glitch rooms might be a neat aesthetic movie.
Anyway if everything that I'm thinking of doing works out, the movie should look really good.
Could you get the high jump that's just down that column that leads to leads to the 5 MP cluster? Then could you get back up and get the 3 MPs or maybe 5?
"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."
For either Ice Beam you need bombs.
For the upper 2 MPs you need bombs.
For the lower 3 MPs you need either Hi-Jump or Ice Beam.
Bombs and the Ice Beam are required.
One has to get them the way I currently do.
The Kraid route is faster and looks better.
Well if you can get that high jump then come back up, you could get those 3 MPs, then go back to the lift, keep going left, get the MP over there, then go back to lift, get the top MP in brinstar, get the bombs, then get the icebeam. This non-Kraid route seems faster than the first one you tried.

well in that case, I'm pretty sure the only non-kraid route that could be faster is one using 10 or 15 missles and either getting missles off the rinkas, or having the MB remember her damage.
Did anyone try killing the rinkas when you have no missles? If they can't give you missles when your out then when your out of missles in Tourian you would have leave it to get more, this seems like something game creators might have thought of and tried to avoid. Also did anyone try killing the rinkas with missles to get missles, what you kill enemies with can effect what they drop in various games.

Even if that is faster it would be boring as hell. You would have to leave the Mother Brain room 8 or 9 times just to refill the missiles to beat the game. Which also might not make it that much faster anyway.
I think this idea would fall into the category of "faster isn't necessarily better." Even if a non-Kraid route could be faster it wouldn't be significantly faster and, IMO, would make the video less interesting to watch which would be a bad thing.
Arc has done a great job with this video so far and I think he is in the best position to judge how to improve it.
entertainment is one thing, time attack is another, I think a true time should be made reguardless how people like the method; that's not to say Arc's Kraid route shouldn't also been made for viewing if it turns out to be slightly slower.

Isn't entertainment the primary reason for these videos? Doesn't it say that directly on the whyhow page?
I would agree with you if it turned out to be significantly faster. I just don't think this new idea is going to take off that much time.
