Hint: This run will not be accepted on this site. In order to play as Julius, you have to have beaten the game. Unless you plan on beating the game as Soma, and THEN as Julius, this won't work. Movies on this site use clean SRAM, which means that you have to start on a ROM that have no save data at all. Therefore, using Julius as your name will just make a new game with Soma, not with Julius. Sorry.

You can always ask Bisqwit REALLY nicely if you want to, but I doubt he will make an exception, because if he allows SRAM, he pretty much opens the door to cheat codes and hacking and... stuff.
i think it can be made exceptions in situations like that, where its impossible to make this TA without determinated things saved in SRAM, and only under an avaliation to prove that there's no cheats in the game.. this could open the range of possible timeattacks available without a lie to the viewers.. in addition, it can be made a rule to punish the users who tries to put something with cheats on the website..

Is there a way that a previous game save can allow him to cheat? I know its a Castlevania game, but, if he hypothetically got an infinite amount of ammo or a rocket launcher by completing the game once, I could see why it should not be accepted.
If its just unlocking a mode of play, then how is that any different from the suitless Samus password used in one of the Metroid TAS's?

Well, if that movie is very anticipated or something, I'm sure a mod or someone could check the rom for secrets unlocked versus secrets used (i.e. using the secret character in question). So long as it is not a rom hack or anything, and the save is solely for the purpose of unlocking a character whose mode of play will be interesting to watch, then I personally don't see what the problem is.
I'm not an expert on Castlevania games, but I'm fairly certain it will be pretty obvious when and if he uses an unlockable item / power / warp.
Am I wrong?
If it's important, have someone well trusted play trough the game once and saving the SRAM, upload it here, and have everyone start from the same SRAM when making their movie. Then we can be relatively sure that the SRAM doesn't contain any trickery, and if the author tried something or used another SRAM the movie will desync when everyone plays it back using the "official" SRAM.
No?

Not many people anticipate a Julius movie. I think it mostly lies in seeing the warp movie (which I am working on) and the 100% movie, which I have no plans to even think about.
Anyways, there are very tiny hacks out there which could alter the game a lot. I have seen one that adds only a few pixels to your normal jump, but that alone is enough to alter a lot of the paths in the game. You could skip Flying Armor and (MAYBE) Malphas, which are the two pivotal souls for a warp run.
Regardless; the rules state that no SRAM is to be used. If we start making exceptions here and there, we'll eventually give way to all sorts of things.
Exceptions can be made, but they always need to be discussed and agreed beforehand.
Now, what kind of exception should we make for this game so that it isn't too wide an exception to allow intentional undetected cheating?
My suggestion is:
First make a movie that completes the game normally. (No need to be super accurate in this part, just complete the game).
Then softreset the emulator, and from thereon continue your actual run.
That way we can prove that your run is not tampered with, and other people can continue on your movie later if they wish to improve it.

The only problem I can see with this is determining the exact movie length of the portion of the run we want. I'm sure it would be pretty easy to figure out how long it is within a second or so. But depending on how ambiguous black transition screens work, or how long the soft reset takes, it would be nearly impossible to determine the exact amount of frames the portion of the run we want is, with 100% certainty.
Thats just the first thing that popped into my brain. Bisqwit may think thats perfectly fine though.
Or, perhaps we can make an SRAM repository, a trusted source plays the game through once, or we use an existing run of the same game to generate the appropriate SRAM, and then host it on the site.

That would be the Konami CODE. Codes are not unlockables. Unlockables focus on things that can not by bypassed by normal means, such as having to beat the game on a certain difficulty.
do it like that as a proof of credibility for the judges but(!!) if the submission gets accepted, start the encoding from the softreset. that would be the fairest and easiest way imo because then we would have proof and also, the author doesn't have to bother to make the regular run perfect. :)
