Revision 7 (current)
Edited by RetroEdit on 9/6/2023 3:09 AM
As part of the [Forum/Topics/23197|wiki restructure], the following [ListOfIdeas] subpages should be reconsidered: [ListOfIdeas/GBA], [ListOfIdeas/Genesis], [ListOfIdeas/N64], [ListOfIdeas/NDS], [ListOfIdeas/PCE], [ListOfIdeas/SMSGG], and [ListOfIdeas/SNES]. I've made [Forum/Posts/525096|a forum post about this].
Each subpage was created almost a decade ago and contain a complete list of games for the given platform. Some games are marked as "good" or "bad"; the pages also attempt to maintain forum links, WIP movies, and alternate region versions. Most of them delete games from the list once they've been published.
[Games] entries have basically obsoleted these pages. Game entries automatically catalog linked user files, submissions, and publications; they can link to the game's forum thread(s), they catalog separate versions of the same game (regions and revisions generally), and it's possible to get auto-generated lists of every game entry for a particular platform. In contrast, the ListOfIdeas subpages have to be maintained by hand and are often poorly maintained as a result.
The sole difference is certain games don't have game entries yet, but those can be added as needed; in modern times, I think these static lists are mostly obsolete and interested users can find full lists of games for each platform in other places.
I'm not opposed to projects like [Forum/Topics/18578|NES TASMania] project to TAS all NES games, but I think the TASVideos wiki is ill-suited for tracking these types of projects. TASMania for instance is maintained on a Google Sheets spreadsheet and organized through their own Discord server.
!!! Plans
While I did group these pages together, they shouldn't necessarily all be handled the same. I'll put some brief thoughts about each one below.
In these pages, game names are sometimes bolded to mark them as "good"; in at least one page, this is rephrased as "interesting from a TAS perspective".
The following pages are ready for deletion:
* ❌ [ListOfIdeas/GBA] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/GBA|Spanish version]) and [ListOfIdeas/NDS] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/NDS|Spanish version]): Ready for deletion.
** These only contain region/genre sorting and no additional notes or bolded games.
* ❌ [ListOfIdeas/PCE] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/PCE|Spanish version]): Ready for deletion
** This contains region/genre sorting and no additional notes
** The following games were bolded: (bolded by [user:Aqfaq] when the page was created on 2014-07-12): Atomic Robo-Kid Special (J), [2168G|Bonk 3 - Bonk's Big Adventure]/PC Genjin 3 - Pithecanthropus Computerurus (J), [2411G|Neutopia], [3905G|Neutopia II], Valkyrie no Densetsu (J)
* ❌ [ListOfIdeas/SMSGG] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/SMSGG|Spanish version]): Ready for deletion
** Only contains region/genre sorting and one note in the Game Gear section: "Dragon Crystal (U): We have SMS version. Is this different?"
* ❌ [ListOfIdeas/SNES] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/SNES|Spanish version]): Ready for deletion
** Contains region genre sorting and no additional notes
** The following games were bolded: (bolded by [user:Aqfaq] when the page was created on 2014-07-13) AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, Arkanoid - Doh It Again, Blackthorne, Cybernator, Equinox/Solstice II (J), Jerry Boy (J)/Jelly Boy (E), Lemmings 2 - The Tribes, Lost Vikings II, The, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - The Fighting Edition, Pocky & Rocky 2, Realm, Shadowrun, Spider-Man & Venom - Maximum Carnage, Super Back to the Future Part II (J), Super Turrican 2, Ultima - Runes of Virtue II, Warlock, Uniracers/Unirally (E)
I still have yet to fully evaluate the following pages:
* [ListOfIdeas/Genesis] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/Genesis|Spanish version]): Evaluation TBD
** Contains links to movies and some actual strategy notes in some cases.
* [ListOfIdeas/N64] (+[ES/ListOfIdeas/N64|Spanish version]): this page was created independently of the others, and is somewhat better organized and more visually appealing.
Other considerations:
* I think it would make sense to add bolded games to [LegacyPages/ListOfIdeas]. There's already a lot of overlap and even though it's a legacy page that isn't necessarily supposed to actively maintained, it would be good to have this information merged in a central place.
** Done for PCE and SNES
