Hi there. I'm arandomgameTASer. I make random TASes. Also gay.

Cave Story (2004) is a famous freeware indie game notable for being made entirely by one person, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya.
Watch as nitsuja completely destroys this difficult game with amazingly precise movement. This playthrough saves Curly and finishes with the best ending after beating Ballos.
The program used to make this run, Hourglass, was also developed by nitsuja—with the creation of this run in mind. As such, it is our first published run of a Windows game.

Pac-In-Time for the Game Boy was released in 1994 as a port of the DOS version of the game. Pac-In-Time is in turn a re-skin of the game Fury of the Furries for DOS and Amiga, which was licensed to Namco and re-released with Pac-Man instead. This game is a departure from normal Pac-Man gameplay involving mazes and ghosts, and is instead a platformer.
In this run, watch as slamo demonstrates some furious rope swinging action and so many physics glitches that it'll make you cry. Waka waka.

Splatterhouse is the first game in the series, but only the second game to appear on a home console (after Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti on the Famicom), which was later continued on the Sega Genesis.
Rick and his girlfriend Jennifer enter West Mansion (known as Splatterhouse) to study Dr. West's parapsychology teachings for a school project. After a flash of lightning and a scream, Jennifer is gone, and Rick is left wearing the Terror Mask, which gives the wearer great strength.
Samsara slides for the most part through the demonic enemy forces in 12 minutes and 15.72 seconds.

NOTE: The downloadable encodes feature two video streams. The first (default) stream shows the Japanese version, whereas the second one shows the American version, which had all religious references removed and the colour of the mask changed to red (and its form changed).
Likewise, there are two YouTube streams available: The first stream features the Japanese version, while the second one features the American version.

Trip World (1992) is an aptly named game developed by Sunsoft, a video game company you might know from titles like Gimmick!, Ufouria and Journey to Silius.
It follows a rabbit-like creature called Yacopu on his quest to retrieve the Maita Flower and return peace to the hearts of the people. Along the way he gains abilities like turning into a ball and a big, scary Godzilla-like rabbit.
MUGG's latest improvement is now about 30 seconds faster than the previous version, thanks to new glitches, new routes and better optimization.

You can watch the complete run being played back on a console.

EarthBound is a great RPG, designed by Shigesato Itoi in 1994-1995, and is also known by the name Mother 2.
It is best described as "random", in a good way. The game has a great emphasis on a humor, and indeed many things in the game are almost caricatured, from subplots to characters. It also has a versatile soundtrack.
Our description for the previous movie stated, "Although this being a speedrun (tool-assisted at that), most of the plot of the game is intact...". This time around, not so much. Thanks to some collision detection bugs, including one that shows that the Skip Sandwich is a fitting name for the item in ways the developers never intended, the author is able to move around the game's areas freely, completing the bare minimum number of tasks needed to keep the final battle from locking up.
Also unlike the previous movie, this one does use a death as a shortcut. However, the teddy bear survives this time around.

Skip Sandwich indeed.

This is a strange platformer where the main character, Michael Jackson, has an obsession with doing weird movements and occasionally dances together with the enemies before beating them to oblivion.
This run by Odongdong obsoletes a nearly 9-year old movie by nearly 4 minutes through new routes, new tricks, and a lot of optimization.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is the sixth installment in Neversoft's Tony Hawk's series and is the sequel to Underground. The gameplay in Underground 2 is similar to that of previous Tony Hawk games: the player skates around in a 3D environment modeled after various cities and attempts to complete various goals. Most goals involve skating on or over various objects or performing combos. Scores are calculated by adding the sum of the point value of each trick strung together in a combo and then multiplying by the number of tricks in the combo.
In this run, Fog skates, grinds, and flies through the air to complete this game as fast as possible on the easiest difficulty using multiple glitches along the way. For more information on the tricks and glitches used in this run, check out the submission text.

The YouTube encode removes the credits and its associated ending theme for copyright reasons.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is a very famous and popular game for the NES. There are normally two main ways to beat it: the quick way using warp whistles to skip worlds, and the longer way which goes through all the worlds.
Lord_Tom goes the same route as the this game end glitch run. However, he achieves total control of the game, pushing the run to a whole new level. He gives himself new powers, like the speed booster and the suit-swap, to name a few. Read the author's comments for more details.
This run was shown at Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 during the TAS block. You can see it here

WARNING: Mario's new powers in this run include flashing lights which may cause epileptic seizures to those affected.
Note: The official encodes for this run include commentary from the author. The second YouTube stream also features input display.

Everyone who has at least once attempted to gather a soul from each of the 120 different enemies in Aria of Sorrow, especially during a speedrun, knows the frustration it incurs after a hundredth failed attempt to get the required drop. That just makes this all-souls TAS, played on hard mode, even more impressive.
This is an improvement of 1:38.85 over the previous movie, thanks to a more optimised route and newly used items. Please read the authors' comments for more details.
If you would like to see the game beaten even faster, don't miss the any% run by one of the authors, klmz.

Note: Starting from reset was necessary to use hard mode. However, doing so is normally not allowed — refer to the rules to see the reasons.

Resident Evil 4 features a completely new story and an innovative "over-the-shoulder" third person perspective that replaces the fixed camera system of the previous three Resident Evil games.
Special agent Leon Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the daughter of the U.S. President, from a sinister cult in a remote rural part of Europe. Leon must fight hordes of violent villagers and mutated monsters on his way to save her.
This run was done on the Japanese version, Biohazard 4, and finishes with an in-game time of 1:35:14.

OBETATHEHLO
These are various notes on runs I've submitted in the past.

Ikachan

My first run! Initially this was copying the WR by lurkchan that was about 14 minutes. However, I ended up finding an Attack Star lure that allowed me to clip into the final area and beat the game much faster. This run has been obsoleted on nicovideo for a while, but since Hourglass it still hasn't gotten a new publication lol.

Re:coded

While a bit outdated, about 4 months of work went into this run and involved me learning how to use touch controls and routing a much longer game. A few tricks and optimizations discovered here did affect RTA speedruns for a while.

Shantae

Shantae is a personal pet project of mine, due to the amount of research I've done into the game. The current 56 minute run that's published was the result of implementing said research, including many tricks that are completely TAS only/not RTA viable. There's still a few very small mistakes in that run (costing maybe a second), but I personally think it's one of my best runs.

Super Aladdin

I've submitted two runs for this game, both obsoleted now. Mostly those runs were unoptimal, although there's some cool tricks and research done in each.

Mickey no Tokyo Disneyland: Daibouken

The first run I did of this game was trash, my revised run is much better. While from a technical standpoint I'm proud of it, it's not one of my better runs, mainly due to how annoying the sound effects are. WHATCHAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Pop'N Twinbee: Rainbow Bell Adventure

This game's fun, I guess. Can be improved by delaying goals a few seconds and using a second player. European version is completely linear for some reason.

Mickey no Tokyo Disneyland: Daibouken

The first run I did of this game was trash, my revised run is much better. While from a technical standpoint I'm proud of it, it's not one of my better runs. Sound effects are too annoying, yo. WHATCHAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

Did two runs of this, the second is much more optimal and skips a few boring parts. However due to the game's relative obscurity it's mostly unknown as a run.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

This run was very long and complicated, it took about a year and a half to finish due to how demotivating using DeSmuME tends to be (ironic considering the amount of DeSmuME TASes I've submitted lol).

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!

Redid this piece of garbage like 5 times over the course of a year to get it optimal. Game has a lot of interesting skips, but too many fetch quests.

Shantae "100"%

Initial run was done in 3 days, latest submission took a little longer. The current run is fine, but 100% is a bit tedious so I doubt I'll improve it.

Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Long one, worked partially with Tompa but he didn't want credit. First 17 minutes are good, last 6 are kind of boring.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Fun one, easy to do. Also technically obsolete due to early Electro letting you get Speed Booster early, which could speed up the late game.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions "all items"

Kept desyncing on me. The Electro section had to be redone about 5 times. Elsewise, this is by far one of my best TASes in terms of entertainment and quality.

Spider-Man 2000

Done three runs of this game, the latest of which I'm fairly proud of. This game has quite a few skips that are interesting to watch, plus fast movement.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night "Maria Mode"

Obsoleted now, but I did this one on Yabause which was incredibly painful for everyone involved. Saturn emulation is in a better place now thankfully.

Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Oh hey I finally finished it. Took long enough. Game's just annoying really. It's not as fast as the first and third games, and there's too much filler. Still, the last Darth Vader fight was fun to do.

Spider-Man 3

This was the first improvement I made to someone else's publication. Game's fast, but it's fast all the time so it gets kind of boring.

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro

Currently outdated run, had issues with PSXHawk and didn't know what a TAStudio is.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

Obsoleted now. Stairway to heaven, baby. Game's not bad. I liked working sort of with Somari.

Chrono Trigger

A pretty taxing improvement to do, due to how easy it is to lose frames in this game. There's still a few frames that can be saved throughout, but that'll have to wait for 100%.

Resident Evil: Director's Cut

Easy TAS to work on and implement improvements. Love those doors.

Bubsy In: Fractured Furry Tales

Terrible game, decent run. Way faster then RTA.
  • Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - lol
  • Castlevania 64
Wait, Random has an entire section dedicated to people vandalizing his page? Oh, gotta do something, gotta do something... uh... uh...
Hi Everyone!
What did you just say about me? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying that to me over the Internet? Think again. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe you off the face of the continent. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you idiot. I will rain fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re dead, kiddo.
