On this page, I want to document occurences or glitches that haven't been seen before and that are unexplained and not reproducible yet. On this page I also want to provide a guide on how you can provide the best information possible, should such a glitch happen to you. Because recently, people have been unable - or even stubborn - to provide information, leading people to believe their reports might be faked.

Notes:
The player reset his console and mashed the Start key. The game then played the pause sound on the title screen (which is normally not possible) while also starting level 1-1. The game was then muted. The player proceeded to finish the level and softlocked until he paused and unpaused the game which brought the sound back.

The player died in the middle of 2-2, but then respawned near the end of 2-2, mysteriously.
This image shows where exactly the player supposedly died. In case the image becomes defunct: After the middle area, the player died between the 2nd cloud and the 4.5th cloud.
The game seems to depend on address $FFE5 (X-Cam related) when choosing where Mario should respawn and in the above case, the player should normally have been placed to a checkpoint prior to the one where he was put (= at the end). If this occurence can be reproduced in a timely manner, it will save time in a speedrun and TAS.

Notes:
There is a video of the occurrence.
The player has died twice in 4-1. Then enemies (cannons) started to spawn later than normal as the player ran through the stage. At the end of 4-1, the screen scrolled for a few pixels past the exit, and the player couldn't touch the exit, thus the game was softlocked.

Update: The player claimed that he got it to work a few times now, including his GBA SP.

Which revision of the game do you have?
This is the case only for some games. Ask around if your game has revisions (such as Super Mario Land v1.0 and v1.1). Consult The Cutting Room Floor for information on version differences.
