Looks very good so far. Just wondering why you didn't use the goal-switch trick in all stages? best of luck with the rest of your run

The goal-switch trick is not always useful, for example in the first level it could maybe save 1 or 2 frames but then I have to use dixie in the next level and she's a lot slower. I'm done with Crocodile Cauldron and I have saved 1342 (22,36^ seconds) frames mostly because of the two bosses. Download And I will be away the whole next week.

Wow, that's a lot of gained time for just the first two worlds filled with warp barrels. Way to go!

Hey I am working on the DKC2 102%, I know it will never be published or be of the calibre I wanted, but I wanted to do it anyway so that I have one TAS under my belt before I try somehting else. And DKC2 is my favorite game What I want to know is how to do the double roll at the beginning of each level? I've nailed most of the other tricks, including extended roll after hitting a monster, but can anyone help me nail this move? The button configuration I use is: (SNES button: keyboard button) B: Z A: X Y: C X: D Start: S Select: A L: Q R: W Any help would be appreciated

You should see the 102 % run over at SDA too find out all secrets and plan your run out from it.

I have seen that run, that's what got me to try it because everyone says how amazing that run is yet I find a large amount of mistakes in it and a 102% run would look nothing short of beautiful as a TAS But i need help with this one move

What kind of help do you need? TASing is very hard to teach to someone, you have to learn it yourself.

No I've been toying around with TASing for a few months now, ever since I discovered the site and actually managed to make the emulator go to slowdown (that took me longer than it had to) and been playing DCK, DCK2, Super Mario World, etc. using slowdown and savestates to get the feel for it. I haven't made any completed runs, I've gotten to as far as mainbrace mayhem on DCK2 and I sorta stopped when I saw all the attention being put into making this run. Why work on it if someone will beat me to it? Especially since other people have been discovering glitches and stuff that I could never duplicate But now I kinda wanna make a 102% just for the thrill of it, and before I heavily throw myself into it I want to learn how to double roll because it is not essential but handy to know how to do. I know it requires Frame Advance (not my greatest strength, but I know how to do it press pause and hit \) and I'm just wondering if someone can help me to do this move so that I go ahead and make the run.

Yay I've solved it!! Just today I started doing my run even without bothering to learn the double roll. I got as far as squawk's shaft, and restarted the run from scratch because I saw a large number of errors. As I was at Kannon's Claim is when I started to notice that I was occasionally doing the double roll. I found that at the "beginning" of areas, the start of a level, the start of a bonus, the re-enter of a level from bonus, etc. made the first "stop" animation after a normal roll to not happen at all, so long as I was holding Y throughout the whole first roll. So now I can do it! So Guybrush your advice was both not-helpful and helpful at the same time I've beaten world one with my second revision, and I'm proud how it turned out except for 4-5 places where frame advance did not make menu options go at first frame, i.e. 3-4 levels did not enter on first available frame and 2-3 bonus's did not enter at first frame. Besides that, it's good as soon as I find out how to post WIPs I will try to get it up, anyone can help me here? Alot of the strategies are the same as the 102% from the SDA, but I intend to put my own creativity into it.

a long time ago i've did a tool-assisted run of Barrel Bayou to see if you are good on TASing just try to beat my time (what is not hard at all, I was obviusly a noob) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/537/BARREL%20BAYOU.smv

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1497/Donkey%20Kong%20Country%202%20-%20Diddy%27s%20Kong%20Quest%20102%25%20completion.smv That's up to Krocodile Kauldron finished And I'm going to be re-doing in order to fix the frame advance mistakes where for menus and the world map and some bonus stages. How's it look so far? Points of interest: Level1: Actually can do the double roll, which looks nice Mostly smooth rolls and great extended rolls in first level, as well as learning how to avoid barrels gaining frames by not running through eeks with rambi Getting the DK coin after third bonus with rambi charge Second level Fast first bonus, can be done better though Finally getting Dixie to save frames on rope Nice double throws Second bonus: is it faster than the SDA method? I can never do that many throw ups, and I feel as if nailing all the guys with a roll from above is faster and more impressive Third bonus faster than SDA slightly Third level Not much, same as SDA all around Couldn't luck manipulate the first bonus at all Fourth level Rolling through the narrow shortcut is hard, but it lets me extend roll through badguy Got an extra jump as water was rising My swimming is not the best, I should practice bonus is nothing special warp shortcut directly from SDA Fifth level 'Sami' calibre warping and double rolling, I also managed a "goal switch" (something I should perfect, I probably will be doing it later in the run) same method as SDA but improved, by doing the level backwards and using better rolling to get to the bonuses faster Boss Nothing special at the boss, Arne_the_great has a glitch but I haven't seen it yet I can't luck manipulate the eggs to be faster, so I rely on dixie to hit the boss as fast as possible I also try to dance to the music, but mess up a few places Thoughts? I'm going to restart this run due to frame advance errors, but any suggestions or tips?

This run desynched for me in the bonus room with the token in the chests. In any case, please take the small amount of time in the opening menu to pick stereo sound.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Stereo sound is selected, but 16-bit sound is also highlighted, is that bad? also I use the improved SNESxW 1.43

It desynchs for me, too (same place like Spoon). Concerning the 2nd level: I don't know, but somehow your jumping up the ropes look kinda sloppy. Can it be done faster? Edit: Just watched Sami's published movie again and his climbing is faster I think. Just watch Slime Climb in world 3. Keep improving your work. I would definitely like to see a 102% TAS!

I just found the sound problem, but how do I make the sound be stereo from the reset of the game? If I reset the game the sound will be mono, how do I change this so that when I record from reset it is automatically sterero without me having to go into the menu? I will restart going at a slower speed than before, just finished stage one again and figuring out the sound problem I'll work on faster climbing, water stages need work and I'll post a new WIP of stage one again as soon as I figure out the sound thing. Edit: I just looked at Sami and Arne's movies, and they both start with mono in the game's title menu, so is this not what's the problem?

The only way to make the sound Stereo is to change it on the menu. I think the consensus is that you won't be penalized for it, since it makes the sound of the game so much better. Arne, you didn't use stereo sound? :-[

DCK2-102% World 1 Found out how to shorten link :P Much smoother, all the way up to Krocodile Kauldron, I hate the boss fight though I just wanted to get world one finished tonight, I will redo the boss fight later Let me know if it desynchs at the chest bonus again, it might be that I fail to luck manipulate the chests right so that might be the cause of it there but I'm not sure. Thoughts on my improvements? I definetly saved a few seconds Edit: I won't be penalized for changing sound in start menu? won't it lose frames? and would it solve desynch issues? ach I don't want to start over again again lol
