Well, I've done some more playing and such, and took it on earlier this morning. Note: the game is really difficult/cheap without save states in my opinion. Anyway, I'm up to the Serpent Boss, and Annet and Maria are saved. I'll keep you updated as I really enjoy speedrunning this game.

As dan's council for this run, I will say this. For 99% of all nonboss scenarios in this game, the keystrokes is pretty much formulaic based on the elevation difference between jumps and how far you need to go. Once you have mastered the backflip and the normal jump, this game is 50 times easier to do. For the other 1% of the nonboss scenarios, you will need to pull off insanely difficult boosts and evasions in order to keep your pace. This is the run stopping part of this game, but it will translate into a lot of glorious segments if they can be completed. For most bosses, item crashing with the cross is all you will really need, give or take a few slashes here and there. So, anyone who takes the time to look at how dan did his first set of levels will find it easy to pick up where he left off, excluding the merman jump that he had been trying since forever and a day.

Castlevania: Dracula X is finally finished. While I did spot 1 or 2 very minor ugly parts (i.e. unnecessary jump on an elevator) it's nothing that cost time and I think the whole run is nice all the way. I have to say that this movie makes the game and strategies used look very easy/obvious in a way. Zurreco is, for the most part, correct. However, figuring out the optimal time to do damage boosts is insanely hard and the sheer variety of ways to go through the levels presented too much for me to handle, to put it simply. I'd play a level, and then play it again and cut down 20 frames or so, then do it again and cut some more frames off until I just got sick of it. Also, I'm almost positive I remember getting the first axeman of level 4 to give me a flying boost ala the spearmen from level 3. However, I couldn't get it to occur ever again. I'd reccomend looking into that.

I'd think you'd be able to hit him more than twice with an item crash.

Thanks. Yeah, I tried to do the same as with the Serpent boss (you're really lucky if you'd get that much health off him on a console :P) but... About his first form... You can't hit him constantly because he flies away after each hit and he's invincible for a few seconds. Hence why the battle looks a bit odd in the beginning. And his second form... I really like the 2nd battle though and especially the last hit I get on him, it looks kind of like nothing but if you know how it is playing against him you'd be surprised, because I jump in and land on the perfect frame and hit him on the perfect frame pretty much (literally impossible on a console I think, because his second swing with the scythe usually gives you damage even if you're a few pixels away from it) and not to mention how insanely fast the swing is and that he seemed invincible for a few seconds at some points (parts of swinging, flying, moving) in his 2nd form.

There is improvements what i have found... #Intro&pressings (19 frames saved) Firstroom (1 frame saved) Secondroom (18 frames saved) Thirdroom (5 frames saved ) Fourthroom (23 frames saved) Total : 66 frames saved Firstroom was really hard to get improved.. in the secondroom i found new tactic to save frames using different jumps as dan&nightcom.. Thirdroom was really annoying and new "route" was used.. i tried to do everything to squeeze frames and i was able to find much better jumping tactic in the beginning of the screen of fourthroom.. :)

i played this game today, and when i got to the 3rd stage i found some kind of glitch. you see, in the last room, when you're jumping on those platforms, when i got to the first 6 dragonheads that are stapled on eachoter i got hit by them and fell down to a certain death in the dark (that's what i thought) but instead of dying i kept falling. And suddenly i started at stage 4 :D so this means i skipped the whole boss fight on stage 3, i think it could be very useful in a timeattack! sorry for my crappy english! P.S I haven't tried this again, so i'm not really sure how the hell i did it! and hey, this might also be some shitty warp that everybody already knows about ^^ if that is so, i'm embaressed

wait...now i'm confused.. the stage 4 in the timeattack isn't the same level as the one i got to :S WTF? somebody explain?

The area you fell in takes you to an alternate stage 4 which is most likely slower than the current route in the published run.

It also prevents you from rescuing Annet and Maria, leading to the bad ending. The only advantage this offers is that you save time not rescuing them, however I don't know if the Death replacement boss is faster than death. However it could be acquired as well but just skipping saving her. But the two alternate endings are non-canon and I don't like them.

hmm... dunno about Shinryuu, but I was bored too and just started a run. Got past the first 2 rooms, and it is around 1 second faster then the current published run. (Now I need to compare with Shynryuu's attempt). WIPs will come soon enough.

Except Shinryuu's WIP that he showed me recently was 100ish frames faster than the .smv he posted, meaning what he has is likely faster than what you have.

in the first room, he was actually 1 frame faster, so I redid it and now I'm 2 frames faster than him. in the second one, I was already 40 frames ahead, so, it's ok.
