Somebody should make SMS page on Game Resources. So far we have found lots of tricks here.

For anyone doing TASes on the NTSC U version, here is the speed address: 0120158C Edit: Strange, this address only seems to work on the Airstrip.. I think this game might be like SADX where each level/area has its own speed address <_< Diving sets you to 48 speed and dive recovers are 55, so the fastest way of moving without water is normal dives (not jumping) and holding A during the entire dive recover. I'll find the NTSC J codes later since its faster for a few IL TAS

More like the fact that the game does dynamic memory allocation of the player data. Find the pointer to the player data.

So I got 12:67 on "the caged shine sprite" (3 frames faster than ReneBalow) but apparently the the crane in Ricco Harbor can be in different places because of rng, and well, Dolphin seems to be incapable of having the same rng twice seeing as how every time I play back the dtm the crane is in a different spot <_<, I guess in theory I could have it play back right if a try long enough, but fuck that. Anyone know how I can fix this? I'm using rev 735 which is the same rev that I've been using SA2B and Metroid Prime TASes and those sync fine, so is there maybe something special I have to do to get SMS to sync?

Did you use a memory card? I've had problems of dolphin not checking if the memory card is back to the way it was before starting the game, causing desync.

I used a memory card, but I doubt that's the problem seeing as how my "read only"/"F8" save is on the shine selection screen, and I can't play the dtm back from there either.

Mario sunshine is known to have desync issues so anything RNG-driven will likely desync. I still don't know how Rene doesn't have desync problems. I think it's because of his computer/graphics card or something

He's told me you need EFB Copies set to RAM rather than texture for SMS to sync.

That's interesting, I might give SMS TASing another try soon

I don't know, why all other get so many desync. I had only desync problems, where i wanted play a dtm.file (Which i have made with a Emulator without the a/v sync hack from natt) with a Emulator with the a/v sync hack. But thanks rog i don't have this problem anymore. But i can't do something that all other get desync. And nobody wanted know my settings. For this reason, it's me care whether other get desync or not. I want anyway do a Any% TAS from Sunshine, and then maybe stop or pause TASing.

EDIT: To cut this long post short, basicly regardless of whether I use EFB Copy "RAM" or "texture" with or without cache checked, the goop is always messed up somehow. It regenerates, moves when loading savestates, becomes invisible, etc. etc. I can't TAS at all, nor can I make demonstration videos. In light of this new video, I did some testing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dhq6cBXXwE -- If you, instead of going to Bianco, grab the shine in the tower (and touch the ground), Mario teleports in front of Ricco, and doesn't do the "lift the shine up in the air" movement. The screen fades white, but it softlocks because it doesn't ask if you want to save. If you didn't touch the ground before the Ricco unlocking cutscene started, you can proceed normally but you can't grab the shine inside the tower anymore, even though it's there floating around like normal. -- This was already known prior to all this, and I didn't want it to be forgotten because it saves time in 100%: If you beat the goop piranha of Bianco, and then clip and grab the shine inside the tower before the screen fades out, you get that shine without all the "shine get" save your game stuff.

Don't you need to merge the dx11_pixelmatrics branch into the dolphin code and build it manually to be able to TAS the Goop levels of SMS correctly? (Which will then only be TASable on the DirectX11 backend) Or is this a different bug?

so after TASing this game the other day I found that it's about 16 frames faster than the old method of 'Hover > Dive' to just hover until the first frame you leave the ground, dive, recover first frame, hover a few frames before you land and let go of R the first frame that you leave the ground and dive into the water on the ground from hovering, it lets you be at a much higher speed when you start sliding on the ground. I use it at the start of this TAS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_i_J4Um1Bg , incase people want a visual

I used that in my more recent speedruns, especially my Secret of Ricco Tower red coins run, although with less precision because it's not TAS. I'm surprised that more TAS players don't use it because it definitely is a faster way of moving.

I hate to double post, but this thread is inactive and I figured this was worth sharing. Link to video Funny that I won't even be submitting this, as it uses a race file and doesn't beat the game.

Are there any TASers here that would like to co-author some ILs with me? I'm currently working on Bianco Hills Episode 3, I'm 3 frames ahead of the current record (held by the Japanese TASers that are working on the 100% TAS). If I could get a little help optimizing even more and maybe finding better strats it would be really nice, I also want to make a few more ILs after I finish this one.

Sorry, I'm in no way able to help you with your request, but I wasn't aware a 100% run was being worked on. Is there a place we can follow its progress that you can share please? vv Thanks itsPersonnal, most appreciated.
