Yes I know there is a locked topic on this game, but that's because no one was complying and first post was total BS. So I made a sloppy WIP through Scorpion. Spiderman WIP Thoughts? PS: The game starts from a snapshot because I tried recording from the beginning and the "Expansion Pack Found" Freezes the emulator.

That would make it ineligible for publication, then. We'll have to find a workaround before it can be finished and submitted.

Good news, it seems this issue has been fixed within the last update of mupen so I can continue with this run

I might try to pick this back up again but I don't have much time for TASing anymore. I did have an idea though, since the run will be on hard, why not use the Peter Parker costume to limit the web cartridges to 2 to make things more intersting? It's easily unlockable: Link to video

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/27811804850475003 Found a few tricks, biggest of which is getting out of bounds at the beginning of level 3, which lets me completely skip all obstacles and lets me grab every hostage immediately.

Does the game still desync in weird ways? It was always fine when I was a kid (I played the PC version) but each version appears to screw up in some ways (like Spider-Man dying if you let the cutscene play where he stands on the crate at the end of the police chase, Rhino hitting Spidey when Spidey is supposed to safely jump over him, Spider-Man jumping into a wall during the Venom chase). I wonder if the game will ever desync in a way you can't recover from.

Yeah it does. The Venom chase sequence in particular can get majorly screwed up if you're too fast.

Do we know what causes it? Why are all versions (at least when emulated plus the PC version) always desynced? Also, some time ago I attempted to play the game on ePSXe and I couldn't get past a section in the sewers. A part where the water raises and lowers had it raise too fast, making it impossible to pass. It's possible it might screw up here too.

Yeah, basically what happens is you hit a trigger too early and it scews with his AI, or if you activate a cutscene too quickly or something. Makes the first part of the chase heck on earth. In terms of progress, just entered the sewer. I'll upload another WIP when I'm completely done with it, which will take a while.

do u get to use any cool suits?
TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

That's a normal armor pickup.

^correct. It gives me extra health, but since I'm not taking any damage it's more of a palette change.

I've been inactive on TASvideos for a few years (I love TASes but was never good at doing them). Spider-Man is the only game I consider myself good at speedrunning and I was excited to watch your TAS, nicely done, definitely voting yes! I don't have a computer good enough to run bizhawk well but I have been playing around with OOB glitches and other things with Spider-Man 64 in my spare time and I know a few tricks that could nick some time off of your run. In no particular order: Hostage Skip In "Symbiotes Infest The Daily Bugle" you can skip the hostages entirely. When you open the elevator and try to go in, you touch an invisible marker and spiderman steps back automatically saying lives are at stake. If you do a 3-punch into the open door, and time frame precise punches (no problem with frame advance) you skip that marker and go right in to the next level. Web Dome Zipping For a frame or two (I don't know the actual number since I only play on console) when you walk off a building, high platform etc, Spidey is still technically walking, you can execute a jump, shoot web, and do anything while standing (You probably knew that much). If you do a web dome in the air this way, the game gets confused as to what you're standing on and you shoot upwards really fast. When the dome breaks way up high you have a few frames where you can jump out of it. This is a good way to get out of bounds in certain spots. Tunnel Crawl Skips 1. Its possible to fall past the water in the beginning tunnel. When you're under it you have total control, but only for a tiny bit until you fall completely out of bounds and die, or touch the water by zipping too far up. It might be possible to swing through it and/or use timed zips. With RTA it's almost not even worth trying because the setup is ridiculous. But I figured this would be TAS territory. 2. Using web dome zipping you can skip the rest of the level after the tunnel. Swing to the other side where the switch that lowers the water is. Run off the left or right edge and perform a dome zip. The level has no ceiling so you can jump over the wall and land in loading zone that completes the level. Waterfront Warehouse That skip is one of my all time favorites. When Spidey yells "Geranimo!" and falls to the end of the level, he's hitting a loading zone. It's possible to hit it without triggering that mini cutscene of him falling. This could be a possible time saver, instead of landing in the small tunnel and jumping around it. It's significantly harder to do though. Possible Stopping the fog skip? With a dome zip you can get over the walls since there is no ceiling. I've tried seeing if there is a loading zone similar to the Warehouse one in the door spidey uses to exit, but there is limited space to land when you do manage to get over. It'd be worth checking out. Great job again with the run, arandomgameTASer! I hope to see more excellent runs from you in the future!

Link to video Oh hey look, I didn't abandon this bizzity tizzity wizzity.....hizzity....... Some improvement comments: General -Analog control is faster. Yeah that's actually a fucking revelation. Level 1 - Get to the Bank! -Going right instead of climbing up the building or whatever was like 5 seconds faster. Level 2 - Bank Approach -First application of Web Dome Ascension (WDA), which gets a lot of use throughout the run. Used here to skip a cutscene. Level 3 - Hostage Situation -Optimized web swings and movement getting oob. Level 4 - Stop the Bomb! -Minor angle optimization throwing the bomb. Also, little glitch at the end. Level 5 - Race to the Bugle -Lots of route optimization. There is now zero climbing in this level. Level 6 - Spidey vs. Scorpion! -Fastest way to deal damage is to do two kicks and a punch with web gloves, since the gloves only wear off if you're using your fists. Also, dive-kicking after every combo saves time. Levels 7-11 -Major route optimizations and applications of WDA. Also used targeting in a few places to force Spidey to web swing where I want. Level 12 - Spidey vs. Rhino! -Same strategy as Scorpion, only Rhino's divekick timer is a little different so they're used less. Be sure to let me know what you think.

Link to video All Comics thingy, saves about 40 seconds. Reposted from my desc.: 'To do the glitch, you need to find a surface that Spidey can attach to, but can't climb on (for example, a door). All you need to do from there is hold forward and keep pressing the jump button to detach him from the wall. Continuously doing this will slowly sink Spidey into the surface he's in. Once you have the comic, just reset to get out. The comic will stay collected.'

I wonder if a 100% TAS would be viable/interesting for this game. There might be some slight potential with routing for comics, but I wonder if the whole "two playthroughs" thing would bring too much repetition.
